Amber is a filmmaker and actor based in Los Angeles. Originally from England, she was raised in New Mexico. After graduating from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she studied theater and modern dance, she returned to England to study drama at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the Central School of Speech and Drama. Her feature films include the award-winning and theatrically-released No Light and No Land Anywhere (2017), the award-winning How to Cheat (2011), and the award-winning A Plus D (2008). Her short film How Does It Start (2019) world premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and has won numerous awards. She has been selected for the AFI Directing Workshop for Women, the Film Independent Directing Lab, the NBC Universal Directors Initiative, Ryan Murphy's Half Initiative, Film Independent's Fast Track, the WeForShe DirectHer program, and the Sundance Institute and Women In Film Financing and Mentorship programs. She has two children with her husband, Ben Thoma, who works for NASA.
