ABC’s Big 80’s comedy series The Goldbergs and its 90’s spinoff Schooled are both coming back for another go-round. The network has renewed The Goldbergs for a seventh season, and Schooled for a sophomore run.
We hear the renewal of The Goldbergs, which was never in doubt, was tied with a Season 2 pickup off spinoff, Schooled, which is rumored to be for 13 episodes. Both series come from Sony Pictures TV.
With the two pickups, indie Sony TV will have 7 series on ABC next season, hit medical drama The Good Doctor, The Goldbergs, Schooled, the newly picked-up drama For Life and comedy United We Fall, as well as reality shows Shark Tank and Pyramid.
Negotiations between ABC and Sony TV for both The Goldbergs and Schooled had been going on for months with typical haggling over business terms between an unaffiliated network and studio.

ABC has picked up “The Goldbergs” and its spinoff “Schooled” for additional seasons, the network said Saturday.
The news comes ahead of ABC’s upfront presentation next week, where it will unveil its full fall schedule to advertisers. The pair of period comedies were among the last of the network’s current shows awaiting renewal or cancellation. Still in limbo is the action-comedy “Whiskey Cavalier.”
“The Goldbergs” will head into its seventh season, while “Schooled,” which aired its freshman finale this week, will head into Season 2. Both were expected to return due to their reliable ratings performance.

The upcoming Season 6 premiere of “The Goldbergs” is getting the John Hughes treatment, ABC announced Tuesday.
The sitcom’s annual 1980s movie tribute will be “Sixteen Candles,” just in time to celebrate Adam (Sean Giambrone)’s sixteenth birthday. But in the episode, which airs on Wednesday Sept. 26, his parents are distracted with Barry (Troy Gentile) and Lainey’s engagement and Erica (Hayley Orrantia)’s band ambitions. Just like the classic movie, his whole family has forgetted the biggest day of his teenage life. Adam tries to leverage the situation to build up some social cred.
ABC also announced that the “Sunday Fun and Games” line-up isn’t going anywhere.
“Celebrity Family Feud” has been renewed for its fifth season, and “The $100,000 Pyramid” and “To Tell the Truth” for their fourth seasons, it was announced Tuesday at ABC’s press day at the summer Television Critics Association press tour.

There’s an old saying; “There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who believe that there are two kinds of people and those who don’t.” Within the spirit of that saying, there are two kinds of stage fright. As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."
That could be the beginning of a great script Mr. Nolan, go write it :happy
For adapted screenplay, I'm happy to report that Aaron Sorkin's fantastic script won! Based on "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich, "The Social Network" was the only film last year that I predicted to win this very category.
