Next February, Doctor Doom's dominion over the Marvel Universe will begin in "One World Under Doom," a new status quo spinning out of Blood Hunt, a story which saw Doom become Sorcerer Supreme.
In addition to a core title spotlighting the iconic supervillain's rise to glory, Doom's reign will be felt across Marvel Comics, including new tie-in series and tie-in issues of ongoing series. Today, you can learn about the first wave of tie-in comics set to hit stands early next year.
The newly revealed issues include Ryan North and Cory Smith's Fantastic Four #29. As their archenemy rises to power, Marvel's First Family will naturally lead the charge - and suffer the worst of its consequences.
Meanwhile, Doom unveils his special plans for mutantkind in Murewa Ayodele and Lucas Werneck's Storm #5 and Mark Russell and Bob Quinn's X-Factor #7. Doom's pursuit of Storm continues, but Earth's Mightiest Mutant has bigger things on her plate.

Controversial EC Comics, which warped young minds with tales of horror and suspense and spawned spinoffs in film and TV, has returned with original stories in a new anthology series.
Oni Press has licensed the EC Comics banner and last month released its first issue, Epitaphs From the Abyss. The second, Cruel Universe, arrives this month with a focus on science fiction stories.
The EC Comics brand has a fabled history.
EC Comics stopped publishing all but its humor magazine, Mad, in 1956 because of government censorship pressures and accusations of fomenting juvenile delinquency. As a result, the Comics Code Authority was created to regulate the industry.
The new series is a partnership between Oni Press and the family of William M. Gaines, the original publisher of EC Comics, who died in1992.
EC Comics brought the world series like Tales from the Crypt and Weird Science.

Francis Ford Coppola has addressed the allegations that he made advances with actresses on the set of “Megalopolis.”
In a report last month by The Guardian, multiple anonymous crew members said Coppola behaved inappropriately amid production. Now, during an hour-long interview Coppola gave to Manohla Dargis of the The New York Times during the Cannes Film Festival, the filmmaker denied the allegations in a roundabout way. In part, Coppola pointed to how he was raised and the morals he learned from his mother, Italia Coppola.
“My mother told me that if you make an advance toward a woman, it means you disrespect her, and the girls I had crushes on, I certainly didn’t disrespect them,” Coppola said.
As the New York Times wrote, “Pressed further, he added that there was a photo of one of the ‘girls’ he kissed on the cheek that had been taken by her father.

Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” just may have broken the internet — and the brains of more than a few critics at Cannes.
Upon the film’s world premiere, fans and critics alike took to social media to capture the “insanity” of Coppola’s latest feature, which has been described by the auteur as a “Roman epic.” Count IndieWire’s David Ehrlich as a fan: In his review, he said that “Coppola’s wild and delirious fever dream inspires new hope for the future of movies.” The film debuted in competition at the Cannes Film Festival and is still looking for distribution, but will definitely get an IMAX release regardless.
Adam Driver leads the feature as a pseudo alter ego of writer/director Coppola, with the Oscar-nominated actor playing an architect who envisions saving his corrupt city and transforming the metropolis into a utopia. Meanwhile, the city’s mayor (Giancarlo Esposito) clashes with Driver’s character,...

While the X-Men's mission forces them to work outside the law, certain teams have found ways to fight for mutant rights within the system as officially sanctioned strike forces.
In the upcoming "From the Ashes" era, that tradition continues in a new volume of X-Factor from Eisner-winning writer Mark Russell (Fantastic Four: Life Story) and acclaimed X-Men artist Bob Quinn (Captain America).
Formed by the government in response to a post-Krakoa outbreak of mutant paramilitary, ops squads, and mercenary teams, X-Factor will be co-led by Angel and Havok and include recruits like Pyro, Frenzy, Feral, and more.
Part special agents for missions that require an arsenal of superpowers and part celebrity propaganda machine, X-Factor will wage war against emerging factions like the Mutant Underground and X-Term. Whether they believe in their actions or are just doing it for a check, the members of X-Factor are no fools when it comes to shady politics.

Marvel Studios celebrated the fourth of April with a post that seemed to double as a stealth "Fantastic Four" tease this week. On Thursday, the X account representing all things Marvel Cinematic Universe shared an illustration alongside four fire emojis. The artwork by Marvel Studios' Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding features The Human Torch, aka Johnny Storm, soaring through the sky above a white retro-futuristic metropolis skyline.
Storm looks at the viewers with an ultra-bright smile, and the trail of flames behind him makes the shape of the team's 4 logo. "Happy 4-4 Day!" a font emblazoned above him says. More interesting than the striking poster, though, is the link included in the tweet. Follow it, and you'll end up on a new page of the Marvel website titled "Future Foundation," which features a reading list of 4 classic "Fantastic Four" comics and one more recent title. The caption on the page reads "Delegates,...

All credit to Mark Russell, the founding artistic director of the Under the Radar Festival. After the Public Theater, which has produced the international and experimental theater festival since 2006, dropped Under the Radar from its annual programming, Russell rapidly rebuilt. With no central home this season, the festival’s shows now crop up over a greater radius of the city, from smaller downtown venues like the Abrons Arts Center and Performance Space New York to major entities like Bam and Theater for a New Audience.
In its new iteration, Under the Radar, which runs through January 21, hasn’t missed a step. In fact, since so many disparate venues have programmed and produced shows this year, Under the Radar seems poised to introduce festival-wide fans to the curated tastes of theaters across New York, potentially growing year-round audiences too. Francis Ford Coppola is telling audiences to get ready for his “unusual” epic “Megalopolis.”
The auteur confirmed during the Accutron podcast that his self-financed $120 million-plus film, which wrapped production in March 2023, will be released in 2024.
“It’s only going to be a few months and it’ll be out,” Coppola said, adding, “All I can say is I love the actors in it. It’s unusual, and it’s never boring. Other than that, wait and see.”
“Megalopolis” stars Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Chloe Fineman, Kathryn Hunter, and Dustin Hoffman, with Db Sweeney, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Bailey Ives, Grace Vanderwaal, James Remar, and Giancarlo Esposito rounding out the ensemble cast.
The film landed a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement in August 2023, rumored to be for actors to return for reshoots. “The Godfather” auteur wrote and directed “Megalopolis,” which shot in Atlanta and New York.

“King of the Monsters—Savior of Our City?” This is what a news channel chyron at the end of 2014’s Godzilla asks. The question appears on a television set in a San Francisco stadium that has been converted into a Fema camp for survivors of Godzilla’s attack on the Bay Area, which climaxed with a battle between the Big G and two Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms (MUTOs). The scale of suffering caused by these creatures, and the shrieks of terror the survivors let out when they see Godzilla rise after defeating the MUTOs and walk to the sea, tell us that the answer is “no.”
To anyone wondering who, then, is the savior of the city, the same scene provides an answer. In a sequence that mirrors countless feel-good videos shared on social media, we follow protagonist Lt. Ford Brody (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) in his tattered fatigues as he carries...

Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four stands before the Illuminati, a gathering of the smartest and most influential figures in the Marvel Universe, to make a declaration. “Everything dies,” he states. “You. Me. Everyone on this planet… This is simply how things are. And I accept that.”
This scene from New Avengers #1 (2013), written by Jonathan Hickman and penciled by Steve Epting, perfectly captures Reed Richards, one of the most important characters in Marvel history. It shows Richards approaching a catastrophic, multiversal problem with cool reason and intellect. It feels undeniably modern, building up to the universe-shaping events in Secret Wars, while still remaining faithful to the sci-fi influences that drove Jack Kirby and Stan Lee’s original vision in 1961.
And with Avengers: Secret Wars already planned as the capper to Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this is the type of Reed Richards that the MCU needs.

Francis Ford Coppola’s self-funded passion project, epic film “Megalopolis,” has been granted an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA amid the ongoing strike. While the film, starring Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Dustin Hoffman, and Forest Whitaker, wrapped production in March 2023, it’s unclear what the interim agreement would be for.
Coppola has yet to tease a release date for the film, with the SAG exemption perhaps for the actors to promote the film. Similarly, if Coppola opted for reshoots, the SAG interim agreement could be for allowing actors to return to set.
The SAG-AFTRA interim agreements do not publicly differentiate between actors promoting a project or filming. Casting is only highlighted in separate agreements. A rep for Coppola declined to comment further beyond confirming the film had signed the interim agreement.

Francis Ford Coppola is assuring audiences that “Megalopolis” was mega-fun to film, despite rumors of “chaos” on set.
The Oscar winner revealed in an interview with Deadline alongside Kevin Costner that he can understand the parallel between rumors surrounding the notorious production of “Apocalypse Now” and now, almost a half-century later, “Megalopolis.” The epic film, which Coppola has described as a futuristic “love story,” has a staggering reported $120 million-plus price tag that Coppola financed himself.
Production wrapped in March 2023 amid reports of creative unrest on the project, which stars Adam Driver, Shia Labeouf, Forest Whitaker, Aubrey Plaza, Giancarlo Esposito, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, and Dustin Hoffman.
“Well, ‘Apocalypse Now’ was out there being edited for months and months and months. And because it had been made in the Philippines, it was sort of mysterious,” Coppola said. “[With ‘Megalopolis’] it was much the same thing. A rumor starts out; there was a report about chaos.

Mark Russell, the political satirist who delivered his wisecracks to the tunes of his piano on PBS specials for nearly 30 years, died today of prostate cancer at his home in Washington, D.C. He was 90.
His death was announced to the Washington Post by his wife Alison Russell.
Russell, sporting a bow tie and standing behind a usually flag-draped piano, was a staple of PBS from 1975 to 2004, where his bipartisan jabs and jaunty playing melded with the gently intellectual tone of the network. With a persona and style closer to Will Rogers than Lenny Bruce, Russell was an affable TV presence whose topical observations offered a family-friendly alternative during an era when George Carlin was saying seven dirty words and Saturday Night Live was making pot jokes.
Still, his amenable demeanor could serve as Trojan Horse for his most pointed and ego-deflating quips. After the exposure of President Bill Clinton’s sexual peccadillos,...

Piano-playing comedian and political satirist Mark Russell died Thursday at the age of 90, his wife Ali Russell said.
For more than 50 years, Russell took shots at all sectors of the political spectrum with stand-up monologues and song parodies. He was best known for his PBS specials, which he taped six times a year from 1975 to 2004. His routines, which he sang and performed on piano, covered the latest political news with timely lyrical updates of classic songs.
Russell was a member of the National Comedy Center Advisory Board, and was remembered by fellow member Jon Stewart, who said, “Mark Russell was a DC institution who did the hardest thing a comic can do… relentlessly and righteously mock his neighbors.”

Mark Russell, the sly satirist who skewered America’s political elite for more than a half-century by blending stand-up comedy with biting song parodies, died Thursday. He was 90.
Russell died at his home in Washington of complications from prostate cancer, his wife, Alison, told The Washington Post.
Perhaps best known for his series of one-man PBS comedy specials that aired from 1975-2004, Russell also served as one of the hosts of the popular 1979-83 NBC reality program Real People, and he wrote a syndicated column for the Los Angeles Times for several years.
However, he was most at home in front of a live audience, and he spent two decades on the speaking circuit, hitting his peak in 2000 when he racked up 100 appearances in 100 different cities.
“Mark Russell was a D.C. institution who did the hardest thing a comic can do … relentlessly and righteously mock his neighbors,” Jon Stewart said in a statement.

This sequel to Godzilla is directed by Michael Dougherty and stars Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler and Vera Farmiga.
Well, another installment of Godzilla and don’t worry, I’m going to make jokes because this movie seems to be made for that. Thanks to the writers and whatever they have drunk.
Premise
Well, Godzilla is out there wandering around because the Earth is now hollow and home to monsters. Some of them are the titans and Godzilla is out there also. It’s like every monster wants to try their strength and, as you expected, there is always a terrorist (this time they are ecological terrorists) ready to create chaos.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) The Movie
The first dialogue made me fall to the ground. One of the characters makes a question about the terrorists who are going to resurrect another beast, as if it was an everyday issue.

Francis Ford Coppola and star Adam Driver are defending the conditions on set of Coppola’s upcoming film “Megalopolis” after a report said that the shoot was in chaos following the departure of key creative talent.
Following an article Monday in The Hollywood Reporter, Coppola defended the film in a statement to Deadline as on budget and on schedule and disputed the idea of a “crew exodus”that would threaten to leave the film in peril. In a statement to IndieWire, Driver said THR’s characterization of the film as descending into chaos was inaccurate. He called it one of the best shooting experiences of his career. Driver did however confirm the departures of several in the creative team.
“All good here! Not sure what set you’re talking about! I don’t recognize that one! I’ve been on sets that were chaotic and this one is far from it,...

Well, this sucks. While Francis Ford Coppola is undoubtedly one of our greatest living filmmakers, he's had his fair share of controversies surrounding the development of his movies. Unfortunately, his return to the big screen, "Megalopolis," looks to be another one of these problems in the making. According to a new report by The Hollywood Reporter, the 120 million self-funded epic has lost multiple key creative talents since it began filming, including its entire visual effects team.
While Coppola and his team have not commented on the report, multiple sources say that there is no longer an art department working on the film. Recent departures include production designer Beth Mickle, visual effects supervisor Mark Russell, and art director David Scott. This might result from an unstable filming environment that one talent representative described as "absolute madness." On top of that, the already-hefty budget is allegedly on track to balloon even more,...

Francis Ford Coppola’s latest movie, the sci-fi-tinged Megalopolis, has descended into chaos, according to multiple sources. The movie, currently halfway through shooting in Atlanta, has in the last week lost key creative talent including its production designer and supervising art director. That’s on top of losing the entire visual effects team in the first part of December.
To many insiders, the production is giving severe Apocalypse Now vibes, and it’s one on which the iconoclastic 83-year-old director is breaking a cardinal Hollywood rule: Never spend your own money.
Megalopolis has been a passion project decades in the making for the filmmaker, who turned heads in the fall of 2021 when news broke that he would be self-financing the 120 million film, partially with the tens of millions he made selling his popular Northern California wineries. The budget has since expanded and the film is now about halfway through its 80- to 90-day shoot,...

A new Superman number one issue? Oh, go on then. One with a connection to the fabled Crisis on Infinite Earths? Definitely go on then. Mark Russell writing and Mike Allred drawing? You had me at Superman. This book genuinely intrigued me when I saw it announced. Nice to have something a little different, a little risky. Superman can be many things, the focus of many different kinds of stories, and this book promises to embrace that principle.
Let’s take a look.
1985, a momentous year in DC history. The year of the Crisis. Superman, a pre-Crisis Superman (The pre-Crisis Superman?) returns to Lois and Jonathan as the world dies. We are, however, getting ahead of ourselves. Let’s travel back to 1963 Smallville, and a young Clark is growing up on the Kent Smallville farm, already a budding...

Warner Bros. is making a Wonder Twins movie for HBO Max. Yes, you read that right, the Wonder Twins. As in, the two purple-clad alien teenagers who can shapeshift when they touch hands and shout “Wonder Twin powers, activate!” Of course, their shapeshifting is somewhat limited as Jayna can only transform into animals and Zan can become water…as in liquid, solid, or vapor. Basically, they’re just useful enough to be the equivalent of interns with the Justice League without overshadowing any of their more traditionally superheroic teammates.
They seem like an unlikely pair of candidates for a superhero movie, don’t they? Adam Sztykiel is writing and directing a film that will go directly to HBO Max, and the studio has tapped Kj Apa (Riverdale) and Isabel May (1883) to play Zan and Jayna. For ’80s kids, the Wonder Twins are almost synonymous with their early experiences with the DC Universe.

The Public Theater, one of New York’s premiere Off Broadway companies, has canceled its prestigious 18th annual Under The Radar Festival due to “multiple disruptions related to the rapid community spread of the Omicron variant.”
The Public announced the cancellation on Twitter today. Considered one of the top international theater festivals focusing on new work, Under The Radar 2022 had been set to run from Jan. 12-30.
“While our robust Covid-19 protocols have created a safe environment within our theaters,” the Public said in the statement, “multiple disruptions related to the rapid community spread of the Omicron variant – including artist and staff availability, artist and audience cancellations, major flight interruptions, and visa processing delays – have prevented a viable way to move forward with presenting Under The Radar 2022. This is incredibly disappointing, but we believe it is necessary given the continued surge and ongoing disruptions.”
Ticket holders will be contacted by the Public via email.

You know the drill by now. Whenever there is a holiday or celebration of some sort, DC whip up a fresh helping of their 80 Page Giants. They usually consist of ten or so stories, by a mix of top name creators and some unknowns obviously given a short story assignment to bed them in gradually in readiness for greater things down the line. Story quality is usually as mixed as you would expect, some great stuff, some average, and some filler. Overall, though, you get good value for your money. So, February being Valentines, this time round we are in the mood for love….

I’ve been enjoying the Future State books from DC a lot more than I thought I would. I just thought it would be another case of what sounded good in an editorial meeting really underwhelming in practice. They’ve not all been slam dunks of course, yes Suicide Squad, Teen Titans and Legion of Super-Heroes we are looking at you, but the ones that have put effort and real thought into their scenarios have really worked well. I’ve especially enjoyed Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Dark Detective, check them out if you can. So, I picked this book up because I loved the title, love the writer (Mark Russell), love the artists (Steve Pugh), and of course love Superman. That’s a lot of pressure for the book to be good. “The “Godzilla vs Kong” trailer is finally here, so get ready for ringside seats to the brawl as Godzilla and King Kong come face-to-face in an all-out battle to restore the balance of the Earth. Check out the embed above.
“Godzilla vs Kong” is a continuation of Kong’s epic journey and the first time in this series that Kong and Godzilla have been on screen together. “The myths are real, there was a war, and they’re the last ones standing,” says Rebecca Hall’s character Ilene Andrews.
The premise for the trailer sets up Kong as the good guy while Godzilla has gone rogue for some reason we are sure the movie will explain. “Godzilla is out there and he’s hurting people and we don’t know why,” says Dr. Mark Russell (played by Kyle Chandler).

DC Comics announced a major promotion today. Marie Javins, who along with Michelle Wells was interim co-editor in chief of the comics publisher following a post-merger reorganization by AT&T, has been named the sole and permanent Eic.
Daniel Cherry III, himself a new hire as DC’s general manager, praised Javins, saying in a statement that “Marie intrinsically understands the power of comics and their unique ability to entertain and empower, which makes her a perfect choice to be DC’s next Editor-in-Chief. In addition to her many creative talents, she’s also incredibly committed to increasing access to this amazing industry by mentoring the next generation of comic book creators and helping them find their voices. I look forward to working with her in her new role.”
Hiring Javins is a nice piece of unvarnished good news at a time when we all could use a nice little winning streak.

As these Snapshot books are supposed to be walks down Marvel’s memory lane, with a side helping of modern relevance, it was inevitable that some form of homage to Jack Kirby would take place. In terms of which character to use, there was a wide field, but in terms of the right one to use, there was only one choice. Captain America. Jack not only co-created him, he kept an eye on him in one way or another for several decades. Cap is also a unique character in that, like Kirby himself, his Marvel connection stretches from the 1940’s through to the modern era. For me, Marvel tapped the perfect writer for this book in Mark Russell, a writer who loves to inject a little social relevance into his books, to formulate plots a little deeper than your average comic book.

I’m guessing most people picked this book up because it’s got a certain privileged rich guy in it, who runs about punching bad guys. Bruce something or other, hear he’s quite popular. Me, I picked it up because Mark Russell is writing it. Always an interesting writer with things to say, he still retains that indie sensibility that allows a fresh look at old things. I’ve not read any of his Batman before, not sure he’s even written Batman before, so there’s that too. Throw in the very nice art from Ryan Benjamin, and this was a hard book not to pick up and review. It’s the beginning of a new story arc as well, as last issue saw a Michael Grey and Ryan Benjamin 3 issue storyline wrap up nicely.

As stay-at-home orders started to crash over the world at the end of March, Diamond Comics Distributors announced that it would be suspending shipping of new books. Diamond has been functioning essentially as a monopoly for years, so this move meant, for all intents and purposes, the end of new comics releases, and it’s been that way for a month. But now, DC Comics announced that new comics will be hitting shops on April 28th, and the way they’re doing it could be a long-term shift in how we get the comic books we love.
The new releases are a scaled back list of new titles, not the full list of books one would expect to come from DC on a regular basis. Shipping on the 28th are Laura Marks & Kelley Jones’ Hill House book, Daphne Byrne #4; the final issue of Si Spurrier and Bilquis Evely’s run...

We’ve never been especially shy about our appreciation of Mark Russell’s comics work. Flintstones was hilarious; Snagglepuss Chronicles was groundbreaking; Riddler: Year of the Villain was outstanding and shockingly straightforward; even his first work, God Is Disappointed In You, is some of the smartest, wryest writing you’ll find. In Second Coming (out now in collected edition), Russell and artists Richard Pace and Leonard Kirk took the Christ metaphor so often applied to Superman and stripped out the metaphor.
“Second Coming actually began as two completely different story ideas. One about Christ returning to Earth to be appalled by what’s been done with his teachings and another story about a superhero coming to realize just how few of the world’s problems can be solved with superpowers,” Russell tells us in a conversation about his Ahoy comics work. “But, at some point, it occurred to me that...

Comics gave us everything we needed in 2019. The best ones surprised even us.
e stand at the end of a decade of massive change, and the comics industry is not immune to those shifts. There are more ways to read more comics about more things than ever before. That’s why the best comics of 2019 contains not one, but three Superman books.
I’m joking. There are only two textual Superman books, but they’re both wildly different, and they and the rest of the best comics of 2019 are a vastly different set than we would have seen even five years ago. There were some really great comics published this year, so even going to 20 won’t catch all of them. And, of course, I’m not independently wealthy or able to manipulate time, so I absolutely missed some great ones that you should feel comfortable yelling...
