Scott Hicks' 2001 supernatural drama "Hearts in Atlantis" should have been a big hit. Based on a novel by Stephen King, the movie blended the author's bent for 1950s and 1960s nostalgia with his knack for mysterious fantasy. Told in flashback, "Hearts" tells the story of a 12-year-old named Bobby (played by eventual "Star Trek" actor Anton Yelchin) who is largely neglected by his self-absorbed mother (Hope Davis) and who spends his idle summer days with his two best friends, Carol (Meeka Boorem) and Sully (Will Rothhaar). To make ends meet, Bobby's mom takes on a lodger named Ted Brautigan (Anthony Hopkins) and Bobby soon learns that Ted has some kind of psychic power. He can read minds, and make objects float.
Ted explains calmly to Bobby that he has to keep the powers secret, as he is being pursued by people he calls "Low Men." Unusually, Ted's superpowers aren't the center of the film's plot,...

"How many people are watching?" Uncork'd Entertainment has debuted an official trailer for an indie sci-fi prison escape thriller titled Division 19, the latest from filmmaker Suzie Halewood. The film premiered at the Fantasporto Film Festival in 2017, where it won the Critics' Award, and also played at the Boston Science Fiction Film Festival last year, where it won Best Director. Set in 2039, Division 19 takes place in a future where jails have been turned into online portals where the public gets to choose what prisoners eat, wear, watch and who they fight. The most successful is Panopticon TV, which is about to be rolled out to an entire town. When the most downloaded felon escapes, the authorities set a trap to reel him in. Linus Roache and Alison Doody star, with Jamie Draven, Lotte Verbeek, Clarke Peters, L. Scott Caldwell, and Will Rothhaar. Not surprisingly this looks instantly forgettable. Here's...

Wow! Here's a blast from the past that I haven't thought of in years! Today Netflix released the trailer for a new original film called Benji. This movie is based on a franchise of films that were made in the 70s and 80s. I completely forgot about these films until I saw this trailer pop up today and then all these memories came flooding back of watching those old-school Benji films.
There were nine Benji films made between 1974 and 1987 and they followed the adventures of a shaggy dog named Benji. In this latest film, Benji "comes to the rescue and helps heal a broken family when a young boy and his sister stumble into some serious danger."

Everyone's favorite furry hero comes home. He's back!! Remember this dog? Netflix has unveiled the first teaser trailer for a reboot of the lovable dog movie Benji, about the furry hero who helps heal a family. Jason Blum produces this new update of Benji, which also stars the same kind of shaggy dog who helps out a family. The cast includes Gabriel Bateman, Darby Camp, Kiele Sanchez, Jerod Haynes, Will Rothhaar, and Angus Sampson. This is just a teaser but it looks adorable, of course. Check it out. After six years (or 42, from the point of view of its canine star), Brandon Camp’s Benji reboot has finally started filming. Camp—the son of Joe Camp, who directed the 1974 original—has assembled a cast that includes The Purge: Anarchy’s Kiele Sanchez, Gabriel Bateman, Darby Camp, Will Rothhaar, Angus Sampson, Jerod Haynes, and, presumably, a pretty adorable dog.
Less authoritarian than Rin Tin Tin, more approachable than the haughtily aristocratic Lassie, Benji has traditionally been portrayed by scruffy mutts in his on-screen roles. The new Benji was apparently found in a Humane Society after being abandoned in a supermarket parking lot; now he’s on-set in New Orleans, working to foil kidnappings and bring the franchise back after a 12-year hiatus.

National Geographic's latest scripted foray, and second collaboration with Bill O'Reilly, falls short of a network record against substantial competition from the NFL and "The Walking Dead."
The National Geographic Channel continues to make strong strides into scripted programming.
Sunday night saw the network's second adaptation from Bill O'Reilly book, Killing Kennedy, average nearly 3.4 million viewers during its two-hour inaugural telecast. That puts it just a hair above the network's previous record viewership set by Killing Lincoln earlier this year. (Kennedy brought in 3,354,000, while Lincoln took 3,351,000.)

The telepic, airing two weeks ahead of the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's assassination, had substantial competition from the NFL and AMC's unstoppable The Walking Dead (12.2 million viewers at 9 p.m. Et). The 8 p.m. debut also earned a 1.1 rating with adults 25-54.

In the lead-up to the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on Nov. 22, TV programming is going to be flooded with specials, movies and retrospectives on JFK's death. "Killing Kennedy," perhaps the highest-profile of the bunch, came to kick things off on Sunday (Nov. 10).
In the Nat Geo film, based on Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard's best-selling book, Rob Lowe stars as Kennedy, alongside Ginnifer Goodwin as Jacqueline Kennedy. Following Kennedy's final three years, things kick off in 1960, tracking the parallel stories of the ill-fated president and Lee Harvey Oswald (Will Rothhaar). While JFK faces the the threat of Communism in Cuba, Oswald's in Russia, renouncing his American citizenship and meeting his wife, Marina (Michelle Trachtenberg). Eventually, their paths cross in a most horrific way, with the movie eschewing the multiple killers conspiracy that's commonly considered, instead presenting the assassination in the most traditional sense.

Will Rothhaar knows Lee Harvey Oswald inside and out. He may not have been born to play the role in the National Geographic Channel’s ”Killing Kennedy,” but Rothhaar’s upbringing certainly made him a shoo-in. As a kid, he spent a lot of time in Dallas — the city where John F. Kennedy was assassinated by Oswald, the man Rothhaar portrays. Rothhaar’s grandparents lived there, so he estimates that he has been to Dealey Plaza — the site of the shooting — at least five times. The first time he went, his father took him up to Oswald’s sniper’s nest in the.

National Geographic Channel threw its West Coast premiere of “Killing Kennedy” at the Saban Theater Monday night, six days before the TV debut and a few weeks before the 50th anniversary of the infamous assassination. The TV movie, which stars Rob Lowe as JFK, Ginnifer Goodwin as Jacqueline Kennedy, Will Rothhaar as Lee Harvey Oswald and Michelle Trachtenberg as Marina Oswald, was shot in just 18 days on an independent film budget, but feels much larger. Perhaps that’s the subject matter. Monday evening’s celebration mimicked a campaign party, down to the balloons and “Kennedy/Johnson” buttons and bumper stickers.

Last evening I attended a rather remarkable event: the world premiere screening of the new highly-touted National Geographic Channel TV movie Killing Kennedy. (The program will be telecast on November 10.) What made the evening remarkable was the fact that, instead of premiering the film in a New York or L.A. prestigious venue, National Geographic in association with Cablevision, chose Greenbriar, a senior citizens community in the central New Jersey town of Marlboro. It seems the channel is taking a populist approach to publicizing their most prestigious productions and it was decided to premiere the Kennedy film before an audience of people who were alive during the events recounted on screen. Several politicos were on hand (there is an election in New Jersey next week, after all) including Jonathan Hornki, the mayor of Marlboro -who used some clout to get the event held at Greenbriar- and state...

“I love history,” Rob Lowe tells me, “because you know somebody didn’t make it up. Such was the case with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963 — 50 years ago this month. As not only a student of history, but particularly as an admirer and voracious studier of Kennedy and the whole “Camelot” era, Lowe was drawn to his starring role as the iconic president in Killing Kennedy, premiering Nov. 10. "Killing Kennedy," which premieres November 10, 2013 on the National Geographic Channel, is the second in the network's series of original movies about major assassinations, executive produced by Ridley Scott and based on books by, yes, Bill O'Reilly. The first, "Killing Lincoln," premiered in February, but "Killing Kennedy" looks like a step up in terms of scale and production value -- it stars Rob Lowe as John F. Kennedy, Ginnifer Goodwin as Jackie Kennedy, Will Rothhaar as Lee Harvey Oswald and Michelle Trachtenberg as his wife, Marina. We're approaching the 50th anniversary of Kennedy's death, and NatGeo's is only the most high profile of a series of specials on the event due out from various network. Does Lowe make for a convincing JFK?...

We knew that Rob Lowe and Ginnifer Goodwin looked the part of John and Jacqueline Kennedy in the National Geographic Channel's movie "Killing Kennedy." Now you can see them in action -- a little bit, anyway.
A trailer for the movie features impressionistic shots of Lowe and Goodwin in character, along with Will Rothhaar as Lee Harvey Oswald and Michelle Trachtenberg as Oswald's wife, Marina. Lowe is the only speaker, and he does a credible vocal impression of JFK that serves as the voiceover for the trailer.

Based on the best-selling book by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard, Nat Geo’s Killing Kennedy follows John F. Kennedy (Rob Lowe) and his assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald (Will Rothhaar), in the final years of both their lives. And now, the first trailer for the TV movie shows Lowe behind the podium as Kennedy, delivering a speech about the “very dangerous and uncertain world” in which he lived.
The trailer also gives us glimpses of Ginnifer Goodwin as first lady Jacqueline Kennedy and Michelle Trachtenberg as Marina Oswald. And, of course, a first glimpse at the bullet shell that nobody saw coming.

Here's a trailer for the Rob Lowe–Ginnifer Goodwin National Geographic movie Killing Kennedy, based on the book by Bill O'Reilly. Last Resort's Will Rothhaar plays Lee Harvey Oswald, and Michelle Trachtenberg plays his wife Marina. Lowe is doing one hell of a Mayor Quimby–level accent, reminding all of us that "ah chances fih sihcurity, ah chances fih peace, ah bettah than they've been in the payast," but hey, that shot of the delicate pink pillbox hat sure is ominous. Kennedy airs November 10.

Today would have been the 60th wedding anniversary of John and Jackie Kennedy, and National Geographic Channel marked the occasion by announcing the premiere date for “Killing Kennedy” and unveiling a teaser trailer. The premiere will be for Sunday, Nov. 10 — 12 days prior to the 50th anniversary of the assassination. The teaser shows President Kennedy (Rob Lowe) delivering a speech on security and peace against slow-motion visuals: Jackie Kennedy (Ginnifer Goodwin) adjusting her iconic hat, Lee Harvey Oswald (Will Rothhaar) readying his rifle, a Secret Serviceman running towards the motorcade as a single shell hits the ground. The festival season is in full swing which means you'll be beat about the head with movies bringing with them heavy themes, weighty ideas and possibly lengthy running times. And while that's generally right up our alley, sometimes you just need a taut little crime drama to take the edge off. Nothing flashy, but just delivering what's expected, and "Mission Park" could be the answer for those looking for just that. Written and directed by Bryan Anthony Ramirez and starring Sean Patrick Flanery, Jesse Borrego, Jeremy Ray Valdez, Walter Perez, Fernanda Romero, Joseph Julian Soria, Will Rothhaar, Vivica A. Fox and Will Estes, the film follows four childhood friends — a pair who are rookie FBI agents, the two others part of an criminal organization — who find their past catching up with them, when the agents have to go undercover to bring down their pals. And in this exclusive clip, the plan is put into motion.

San Antonio filmmaker Bryan Ramirez has dug filmmaking since he was a kid when he would spend time creating Ninja Maniacs (which I'm dying to see!). After graduating Full Sail Film School in Orlando, he stayed true to his roots and never did the 'Hollywood' thing. Instead he gathered friends in Tejas to make his first feature film debut, the award winning Mission Park which has had a successful festival run and got picked up by AMC Independent to be released in September. The crime drama stars Jeremy Ray Valdez (Walkout), Walter Perez (The Avengers), Fernanda Romero (Drag me to Hell), Joseph Julian Soria (Crank: High Voltage) and Will Rothhaar (Battle Los Angeles). It also features Vivica A. Fox, Will Estes and Sean Patrick Flanery. So, we asked Ramirez to tell us his 5 rules of making a film.
“It starts with the script, it speaks to you as you write it, let it tell the story. When writing and reading a script, the characters come to life, you see them, hear them and feel them. You have to be true to this when casting. If they offer you a big name but you don't think they'll fit your vision. They won't fit. There are other options and you must be adamant about who you want.”
“Your vision is your vision. You have be able to tell your story the way you want to tell it. It has to look and feel the way you want it to. Make sure you get a Dp who trusts your vision and assist you in bringing it to life. At the same time you have to trust your Dp, he may have an idea that will blow your mind.”
“Collaborate, but don't lose control of the set. You're the Director, a lot of times an actor will have an idea of how they want to bring a character. Hear them out, this just means that they are as deeply involved as you are and they will move mountains for you in order to bring the words to life.”
Watch the trailer for Mission Park
“Hire a seasoned Ad, and trust him 100%. Remember though, you set the pace of your crew, if you're excited to be there, know your shots, know your blocking, and know your story, they will all keep pace with you. The moment you lose control or show signs of confusion, don't know what you want or how to get it, you will lose your crews respect and the actors trust.”
“If you're just starting out and want to be a director, watch movies, a lot of movies. Then watch them with no sound, look at the shot selection, the actor's facial movement and body motions, the set, the props, even the lighting. How do all these elements help tell the story?"

"Killing Kennedy," based on the book by Bill O'Reilly, is set to premiere in November to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Kennedy. It's an important anniversary, of course, and one that seemed to be front of mind for the talent appearing to promote the move at the 2013 TCAs. Rob Lowe (President Kennedy), Ginnifer Goodwin (Jacqueline Kennedy), Will Rothhaar (Lee Harvey Oswald), Michelle Trachtenberg (Marina Oswald), Jack Noseworthy (Bobby Kennedy) and director Nelson McCormick and writer Kelly Masterson talked mastering iconic characters, Bill O'Reilly and "weird, bizarre details." When asked about the significance of the project, Lowe explained, "We don't have...

Do you remember how adorable Michelle Trachtenberg was when she made her first appearance on Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Even years later, when she was doing more serious work on Gossip Girl, she still had that charming adorability. It was like she was incapable of ever truly growing up and becoming an adult. It didn’t help that she seemed to always be playing characters 10 years younger than she is, so perhaps all she needs is to play someone closer to her age. It seemed like an odd choice to cast her in the Nat Geo film Killing Kennedy. Again, that image I’ve had of her, as an eternal teenager, made it hard for me to see her in a film about President Kennedy’s assassination. It turns out I’m just a big fool.
At the first glimpse of Trachtenberg as Marina Oswald, I didn’t realize who I was looking at.

Fans of Michelle Trachtenberg from her "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Gossip Girl" days are in for a treat when she stars as Marina Oswald in the upcoming Nat Geo film "Killing Kennedy." The first picture of Trachtenberg as the wife of Lee Harvey Oswald has debuted and shows a different side of the fan-favorite actress.
Also hitting the web is an image of Will Rothhaar as Oswald himself. That image is a bit more loaded, as it shows Oswald readying his gun -- likely the one he would later use to kill John F. Kennedy.
Based on the book of the same name by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard, "Killing Kennedy" also stars Rob Lowe as Kennedy and Ginnifer Goodwin as Jacqueline Kennedy. It's due to premiere on Nov. 22.
