Just because today’s big headline — “Nikki Glaser to Host the Golden Globes” — feels like it was inevitable, that doesn’t make it any less exciting or deserved.
In May, comedian Nikki Glaser wiped the annoyingly-perfect smile right off of Tom Brady’s smug, beautiful face at Netflix’s live-streaming event “The Roast of Tom Brady.” Though a case could be made that Tony Hinchcliffe (“Kill Tony”) or possibly even Andrew Schulz had (marginally) better jabs, it was Glaser who grabbed the headlines. And then she kept grabbing them: Rave reviews of her monologue by viewers and critics — and most importantly, her fellow comics — led to a whirlwind of press requests for Glaser, including here at IndieWire.
In many of those interviews, Glaser was asked about hosting a primetime awards show. She was in, she said, and now she’s in as host of the 82nd Golden Globe Awards. What...

Sunday’s live Tom Brady Netflix roast quickly made headlines when comedian Jeff Ross made a joke that alluded to Patriots owner Robert Kraft being charged with soliciting prostitution after an investigation into massage parlors in Florida.
Though Brady told Ross at the podium, “don’t say that shit again,” Ross now says the NFL star wasn’t that upset about the joke.
During the Netflix special, Ross said of Brady’s early days with the Patriots, “So Tom became a Patriot and moved up to New England, and on the first day of training camp, that scrawny rookie famously walked into the owner Robert Kraft‘s office and said, ‘I’m the best decision your organization has ever made. Would you like a massage?’”
The joke seemed to be about a 2019 incident in which police said they had recorded Kraft paying for sex acts. He pleaded not guilty and...

One of the most viral moments to emerge out of Tom Brady’s Netflix roast was when the NFL icon got up from his seat and told off roaster Jeff Ross after the comedian made a massage joke about Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Brady was heard telling Ross: “Don’t say that shit again.” But according to Ross, Brady was not actually pissed off at him.
“Come on, come on, no way, no way,” Ross said on “The Rich Eisen Show,” downplaying that Brady got angry at him for the Kraft massage joke. “He was having fun. You know, it’s like that’s his dad. Robert Kraft is like a father figure to him, he was just showing his love for Robert Kraft. And Robert Kraft loved it. We had a great talk afterwards. He was so happy that I gave him a shoutout and a salute. It was beautiful.

Updated with game-day versions, additional commercials. Super Sunday brought Madison Avenue’s annual spending spree, which has boosted the Big Game’s Hollywood quotient noticeably in recent years.

Things are going to get salty for Mr. Peanut in this year’s Super Bowl.
The elegant legume, who was killed off in a Big Game marketing stunt in 2020, will return to the gridiron spectacle this year for what looks to be an even more challenging prospect. He’s going to get roasted.
The anthropomorphic snack figure has indulged in many recent Super Bowl antics. In 2020, his backers launched a Baby Nut after professing to have done Mr. Peanut in. And in 2019, he appeared in a Super Bowl ad along with Charlie Sheen and Alex Rodriguez.
Now he’s ready for a new level of mischief. “To their credit, Planters has a great sense of humor about this whole thing, and told me to go for it. I went for it,” says Jeff Ross, the comedian known as the Roastmaster General, in an interview. “We will have to see if Mr.

Bruce Springsteen performed at Standup For Heroes — an annual fundraiser for the Bob Woodruff Foundation that mixes music with comedy — at New York’s David Geffen Hall on Monday night. The bill also included the Lumineers, Jon Stewart, Jeff Ross, Amber Iman, Hasan Minhaj, and Iliza Shlesinger.

Every step Freddie Gibbs takes is historic. Few artists can match the kind of career the 40-year-old rapper has charted for himself. He’s gone from a fledgling label signee to an indie darling and major label success in the span of a decade. “I’ve had the most unique career path of any rapper on my level because I slugged it out so many years independently,” Gibbs tells Rolling Stone over a zoom call. “I had to put so much of my own time, effort, and money into it.

Lori Loughlin hit the red carpet on Wednesday night with the wives of her “Full House” co-stars, honouring the late Bob Saget at a fundraising event.
The actress posed alongside Saget’s widow, Kelly Rizzo, and John Stamos‘ wife, Caitlin McHugh, in a floor-length halter gown as the trio smiled arm-in-arm for photographers. Rizzo wore a camel-coloured high-neck dress with ruching, while McHugh opted for a dark floral midi with a thigh-high slit.
Loughlin’s appearance comes as it was announced that she had scored her first new movie role following her involvement in a 2019 college admissions scandal.
Rizzo served as co-chair for the Scleroderma Research Foundation‘s Cool Comedy Hot Cuisine Event, which was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, John Mayer and Jeff Ross. Saget had long been a supporter of the cause — and host of the annual fundraising event — after losing his sister to the disease in 1994.

Bob Saget’s longtime friends John Mayer, Jeff Ross, Jimmy Kimmel and Dave Chappelle came together to honor the late comedian Wednesday in support of a cause he had been a part of for 30 years.
Mayer, Ross and Kimmel hosted the Scleroderma Research Foundation’s annual fundraising event “Cool Comedy, Hot Cuisine” in Beverly Hills, which also served as a night of tribute to Saget, who died in January at age 65 after an accidental blow to the head.
The Full House actor had passionately championed the Scleroderma Research Foundation since losing his sister Gay to the disease — a rare and often life-threatening autoimmune condition that can cause fibrosis in the skin and other vital organs — in 1994. Saget joined the Scleroderma Research Foundation board of directors in 2003, but he began his involvement in 1991 through “Cool Comedy, Hot Cuisine” —as an attendee, a performer and...

It’s the moment many “America’s Got Talent” acts have been waiting for: the roast of Simon Cowell.
On Wednesday night’s finale, Mike E. Winfield hosted the special performance, bringing out Don McMillan, Mr. Pants, Lace Larrabee and the roast master himself, Jeff Ross, to all take a swipe at Cowell.
McMillan was criticized by Cowell during his audition for using a PowerPoint presentation. So, in an act of defiance, McMillan once more did a PowerPoint presentation — much to Cowell’s dismay — of the media mogul’s likes and dislikes.
Number 1 on the dislikes was, unsurprisingly, PowerPoints; others included shaving, clowns and parmesan cheese.
He also poked fun at Cowell’s recent bike accidents, adding: “Too soon?”

Comedians Join Forces to Parody Gal Gadot’s Star-Studded ‘Imagine’ Video: ‘Imagine There’s No Keto…’
Josh Wolf and a host of other comedians used their coronavirus quarantining downtime to create a parody video of Gal Gadot’s instantly-viral “Imagine” video.
The clip — featuring Jeffrey Ross, Sarah Colonna, Jon Ryan, Joey Fatone, Sinbad and Brittany Furlan, among others — starts out, “Imagine there’s no keto / you have to eat mostly carbs / I bought up all of the Purell / just to wash my car.”
The rest of the lyrics make references to other hobbies and escapes enjoyed primarily by the wealthy, like dodging urban quarantines by heading to vacation homes or “only” having three cars. When Gadot posted her star-studded version of John Lennon’s “Imagine” Wednesday, one of the immediate criticisms was that it was tone-deaf for featuring rich celebrities who are quarantining in their large homes, recording themselves singing instead of making donations to relief efforts.
