Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens are a writing/producing team who have created, written, and produced television in Canada, Australia, and the United States, and have been honored with a Constellation Award for "Outstanding Canadian Contribution to Science Fiction Film or Television" for creating the sci-fi series, Primeval: New World.
In genre media, they were writer/producers on the fourth season of Star Trek: Enterprise, for which AintItCool.com called their episode, "The Forge," "not only the best episode of Enterprise, but the best episode of Star Trek." Well-known to the Star Trek community, the couple have written four acclaimed non-fiction books detailing the production history of the franchise, and provide commentaries for the Blu-Ray editions of Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Star Trek: The Final Frontier.
In animation, Judith and Garfield developed and served as Executive Story Editors for Phantom 2040, a futuristic updating of Lee Falk's classic costumed crime fighter. Wired magazine praised the series as "not just another merchandising scam, Phantom 2040 is spectacularly written with smart dialogue, an intricate story-line, and animation to match." For their work on the groundbreaking fan favorite, Batman The Animated Series, Judith and Garfield shared an Emmy Certificate for Outstanding Animation writing. For Van Helsing: The London Assignment, their animated prequel to Universal Pictures' Van Helsing feature film, Variety said, "An excellent animated prequel... the intelligent story (voiced by the cast of the theatrical Van Helsing) moves at a rapid clip and the action is nail-biting."
For a younger audience, their most recent production is Aliens Ate My Homework for Universal 1440 Entertainment, based on the Rod Allbright & The Galactic Patrol YA novels by Bruce Coville. The first Galactic Patrol movie was released as a Netflix Original in March, 2018, and the sequel, Aliens Stole My Body, written and executive produced by Judith and Garfield, will be released in August, 2020.
Judith and Garfield are also New York and Los Angeles Times bestselling authors whose novel, Quicksilver, was praised by Publishers Weekly as a techno-thriller with female protagonists: "The hair-trigger plot and heroics are gripping, and the mix of formidable, but feminine heroes adds a new twist to the scenario. This follow-up to the Reeves-Stevenses' best-selling Icefire insures their entrée to the techno-thriller elite." Previously, Stephen King had hailed Icefire as "a hardwired, totally riveting, dare-you-to-put-it-down story of disaster, heroism, and suspense. There's no need for techno-thriller fans to wait for the next Clancy or Coonts; Icefire is the best suspense novel of its type since The Hunt for Red October."
Their newest book, Wraith, is a chilling tale of rogue technology, conspiracy, and supernatural suspense, revealing how classified government research into remote viewing has spawned a terrifying new form of warfare: Ghosts have been weaponized. Wraith was published by Thomas Dunne Books, an imprint of St. Martin's Press. Their previous novel from Thomas Dunne is Search, a novel of "forbidden history," featuring the writing team's unique blend of cutting-edge science and unrelenting suspense in a breathtaking race to uncover the secret origins of human civilization. Publishers Weekly said, "This fine archaeological quest novel smoothly blends a fast-moving fantasy plot with a solid scientific backdrop... Smart, suspenseful writing and a clever concept add up to a compelling read."
In addition to writing television, features, and novels for all ages, Judith and Garfield also work with the Disney Imagineers on an ongoing basis. For the Shanghai Disneyland Resort which opened in 2016, Judith and Garfield were "Lead Land Writers" to develop concepts, stories, and attractions for the park's Adventure Isle section. Most recently with the Imagineers, they have been involved in creating entire park concepts and future attractions for Disney Asia, as well as working as Lead Story Consultants for the 40th Anniversary of EPCOT in 2022.
Judith and Garfield began their writing careers as science and technology educators, and created and wrote Science Around Me, a thirty-title series of textbooks introducing science and technology concepts to grades 1, 2, and 3. The series was published by Methuen and adopted across Canada. Judith and Garfield have also served on a NASA Space Policy Workshop with "distinguished forward-thinking individuals" including Director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Dr. Charles Elachi, NASA Chief Scientist, astronaut John Grunsfeld, and filmmaker James Cameron.
