Michelle Yeoh has joined the star-studded cast of Jon M. Chu’s “Wicked,” TheWrap has confirmed.
The “Everything Everywhere All At Once” star will play the headmistress of Crage Hall at Shiz University and the Wizard’s colleague Madame Morrible. The character originates from Gregory Maguire’s “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West,” on which the Broadway musical is based.
The film will see Yeoh reunite with her “Crazy Rich Asians” director Chu, who joined the project along with Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba in Nov. 2021. More recently, Jeff Goldblum signed on to play The Wizard and “Bridgerton” star Jonathan Bailey was cast as Fiyero.
Tony Award-winner Carole Shelley first played Madame Morrible on Broadway. Other notable peformers who have taken on the role include Rue McClanahan, Jayne Houdyshell, Rondi Reed, JoAnne Worley, Liz McCartney, Patty Duke and Carol Kane.

“Slave Play” made history back in October when it received 12 Tony Awards nominations, the most ever for a play. Five of those citations recognize members of its stellar ensemble, including a bid in Actress, two in Featured Actor, and two in Featured Actress. While “Slave Play” is the frontrunner for Best Play according to our exclusive Tony Awards predictions, none of its cast will take home trophies. But could an upset be looming?
Though it seems counterintuitive that Tony voters would award a play the top honor without recognizing at least one of its performers, it has happened six times in the past 20 years, including the two most recent. In 2019, Jez Butterworth’s “The Ferryman,” an expansive family drama about The Troubles in Ireland, won the top prize and trophies for Director (Sam Mendes), Scenic Design, and Costume Design, but didn’t pick up awards for its three nominated performers: actor Paddy Considine,...

Mom Series Finale: EP Reflects on Bonnie's Last Share, Adam's Uncertain Fate and Jill's Happy Ending
Bonnie Plunkett endured a veritable cocktail of intense emotions during Mom‘s series finale – but never once did she consider pouring herself a stiff drink.
In the CBS comedy’s farewell episode, Allison Janney’s alter ego gained a new outlook on her sobriety after a whirlwind 24 hours. First, she met fellow addict Shannon (played by Two and a Half Men‘s Melanie Lynskey) and convinced her to give Alcoholics Anonymous a chance. (It was no coincidence that Shannon’s complicated relationship with drug-addled mom Jolene, played by Mike & Molly‘s Rondi Reed, mirrored that of Christy’s pre-recovery relationship with Bonnie.

For the average theatergoer, going to a production of a William Shakespeare play can either be an enlightening night of poetic culture or it can feel like homework. The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles’ production of Henry IV, helmed by Tony Award-winning Daniel Sullivan, lands somewhere in the middle of that spectrum, but leans towards enlightening and fun, thanks to its impressive cast of star power that is fronted by Academy Award-winning Tom Hanks, Scandal‘s Joe Morton, and Legion actor Hamish Linklater.
Henry IV, Shakespeare’s two-part play that makes for a three hour-plus theater experience at the Japanese Garden on the V.A. campus, can be considered a frenemy bromance between Linklater’s Hal and Hanks’ Falstaff, the latter being a character that appears multiple times in the Shakespeare-iverse. Hal is the son of the titular king, played with an appropriate patriarchial authority by Morton.

Tom Hanks took to the stage last weekend as we’ve never seen him before — in a fat suit as a barreling and rambunctious drunk.
No, he wasn’t appearing in a “Saturday Night Live” skit, but instead bringing one of William Shakespeare’s most iconic comedic characters to life: John Falstaff in the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles’ production of “Henry IV,” now playing through July 1.
While the Oscar winner consistently captivated in his L.A. stage debut as the overweight, vain and boastful cowardly knight who befriends the future king of England, the outdoor setting for the play could not have been more tranquil.

Last season, the ratings for Mike & Molly dropped once again but the sitcom was renewed anyway -- likely in part to give the series enough episodes for a syndication package. Will the numbers improve this time around? Cancelled or renewed for a sixth season on CBS?
On this season of Mike & Molly, Molly (Melissa McCarthy) pursues her career as a writer while Mike (Billy Gardell) continues working as a cop. The rest of the cast includes Swoosie Kurtz, Katy Mixon, Louis Mustillo, Reno Wilson, Cleo King, Rondi Reed, Nyambi Nyambi, and David Anthony Higgins.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. It's official: The Weinstein Co. has switched the Oscar strategy of the top stars in "August: Osage County." Meryl Streep will return to the lead race, according to one of the studio's Oscar campaigners. But here's the shockeroo: Julia Roberts will drop to supporting, Back in early August, the studio planned to campaign Streep in the supporting race and put Roberts in lead. Then last week, the studio hinted that Streep might go back up to lead based upon reactions to early screenings of a new, final cut of the film. But there was no hint that Roberts might be shuffled too. Now it turns out that Roberts will compete against "August: Osage County" costar Margo Martindale, who portrays an award-winning role. The "Mike & Molly" Season 3 finale may have aired a little later than expected, but CBS gave it a "Big Bang Theory"-assisted scheduling boost to ensure maximum viewership.
The episode saw Mike (Billy Gardell) dealing with the aftermath of his mother, Peggy (Rondi Reed), breaking up with his boss, Captain Murphy (Gerald McRaney), as a tornado headed for Chicago. With disaster looming, Mike revealed to Molly (Melissa McCarthy) that he secretly went into business with stepfather-in-law Vince (Louis Mustillo) in case they needed extra money for in vitro fertilization treatments. Of course that didn't turn out very well: the ostriches Mike and Vince bought wound up getting loose in the storm. And Murphy showed up at Peggy's door to declare they're not over yet.
Otherwise it was a rather quiet finale, with no major cliffhanger or standout event to keep fans buzzing during what will be an unusually extended hiatus.

The Navajo Nation and other Native American groups have called on the CBS sitcom, "Mike & Molly," to apologize for an offensive joke made on the most recent episode. The joke in question made reference to "drunk Indians."
On the episode that aired last Monday (Feb. 25) -- "Molly's New Shoes" -- Mike's mother, Peggy (Rondi Reed), was confronted with the idea of moving to Arizona. Her response was the source of the controversy. "Arizona? Why would I move to Arizona?" she asked. "It's nothing but a furnace full of drunk Indians."
Apparently, no one at "Mike & Molly" or CBS thought this line was a problem, but Native American groups disagree. Erny Zah of the Navajo Nation (located in Arizona, Utah and New Mexico) made a statement to ABCNews.com: "It's offensive, it's derogatory, it's deplorable. Ignorance is one thing, but this must have passed through a lot of eyes before it appeared on a network show.

Flagstaff, Ariz. — Arizona tribal members say they're shocked by a television sitcom that made fun of one of the most pervasive social ills on American Indian reservations – alcoholism.
One of the characters on the CBS show "Mike & Molly" joked about drunken Indians in Arizona, a state that is home to 21 federally recognized American Indian tribes. Although drinking and selling alcohol largely is banned on reservations, it can easily be found in border towns, brought in by bootleggers or sneaked past authorities.
No one disputes that public intoxication is a problem on and off the reservations, but tribal members say alcoholism often is linked to poverty, hopelessness and a history of trauma within American Indian families that is hard to overcome. American Indians and Alaska Natives die at a higher rate from alcoholism than other Americans, according to federal data, and authorities say alcohol fuels a majority of violent crimes on reservations.

TV programs often run into challenges when the lead characters finally get together or, worse, get married. These moments often mark the high point of a series and everything after that goes down hill. So it was a surprise when, at the end of Season 1 of "Mike and Molly," that the title characters decided they're going to get hitched. As for how the show will keep up the tension and evolve, the show's Ep Mark Roberts has the answer.
"I'm married and it comes with plenty of problems," Roberts says at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. He adds that other members of the cast, which includes Reno Wilson, Nyambi Nyambi and Rondi Reed will have expanded roles. Roberts says they're making the show into "a bigger ensemble with other interesting characters. We're going to follow their lives too...Mike and Molly, in some story lines, can become supporting players.

Confession time, PopWatchers. Before last night I’d never actually watched an episode of Mike & Molly. I know, I know, it’s inexcusable, especially considering I have been singing the praises of Bridesmaids and Saturday Night Live scene-stealer Melissa McCarthy all week. But after the banner past couple of weeks McCarthy has been having, I decided it was time to check out the show that earned the actress an Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy.
Turns out, it’s a pretty sitcommy sitcom, complete with a laugh track, stereotypical characters, and problems that get resolved nicely within a half an hour.

Chicago – It all seems perfectly simple to Dr. Jack Kevorkian. When a person is suffering, and recovery isn’t an option, what’s the point of elongating the agony? Should medical professionals force that person to live in pain or grant his (or her) wish to die in peace? The answer is a no-brainer for Kevorkian, whose perspective is unclouded by the complications of “religious dogma.”
Barry Levinson’s terrific HBO biopic, “You Don’t Know Jack,” paints an endearing and humane portrait of a controversial figure many deemed to be a killer. Though Dr. Kevorkian is depicted as a flawed and difficult individual, the film’s perspective on his work is clearly one-sided. The doctor’s no-nonsense approach to serving his patients resulted in his invention of the “Mercitron,” a machine that offers a painless method for suicide.
