Wes Craven's Last House on the Left has built a reputation as one of the most controversially disturbing horror movies of all time. For example, in 2001 the film was one of 400 listed as candidates for the 100 Most Heart-Pounding American Movies ever made by The American Film Institute (AFI).

Starring Sandra Peabody, Lucy Grantham, David Hess, Fred J. Lincoln, and Jeramie Rain, the film follows a pair of innocent teenage girls en route to a concert before unwisely accepting a drug offer from a random stranger. When the stranger brings the girls to his malevolent gang-leader, Krug, they are subjected to barbarous rape and unthinkably brutal violence.

Near the top of the list of movies we do not recommend as a date picture, no way no how, Wes Craven’s gut-wrencher presented a real problem for critics. Whose movie exactly is this? The producer wanted a commercially daring pornographic gore shocker. The writer-director envisioned a political scream of rage against America he considered Evil. Is the film an abomination, or an honest reflection of society in chaos?

I have been a huge fan of Texas Frightmare Weekend since its humble beginnings 13 years ago. The event continues to grow and is now one of the largest horror conventions in the Us, as well as the largest in the Southwest. We are always privleged to be able to share news about guests and some of the great screenings that the Tfw team bring to Dallas every spring, but this may be the most exciting yet. We are happy to exclusively announce that Tfw sponsor Arrow Video will be releasing Wes Craven's debut feature, Last House on the Left, on special edition Blu-ray this May, and to celebrate Texas Frightmare will have two of the film's stars in attendance. Jeramie Rain and Marc Shefflet,...

“I wonder what the meanest, foulest, rottenest, woodsiest sex crime ever was?”
Fred Lincoln was a giant in the adult film industry, directing and acting in hundreds of porno films from the early 70’s up until about 5 five years ago when his health began to decline. We Are Movie Geeks doesn’t cover porn, but like his costar David Hess (who died in October of 2011), Lincoln would have gone done in history as one of the slimiest degenerates in the movies if he had appeared in nothing except the 1972 rape and revenge classic Last House On The Left where he played the repellent villain Weasel Padowski (a name he sometimes used as a pseudonym for his porn directing). Director Wes Craven’s first film was one of the most notorious movies ever made, offending nearly everyone who saw it, and 40 years later, it hasn’t lost any of its edge.

No matter what your personal feelings are for The Last House On The Left, there’s no denying the fact that Wes Craven ain’t no Ingmar Bergman. Craven’s landmark exploitation ripoff of Bergman’s lyrical 1960 melodrama The Virgin Spring—itself still one of the most beautifully harrowing films ever made—remains controversial, with as many people debating its technical merits as its dubious content.
And while, cinematically, Last House doesn’t boast an iota of the sophisticated impact that the Bergman original had, it is nevertheless ground zero for explicit onscreen sadism. As such, it still maintains a fervent following.
MGM is counting on those legions of loyal Krug-ites to take advantage of their latest cash-in, a so-called “Collector’s Edition” DVD whose timing lines up with the release of the new Dennis Iliadis-directed remake. Chances are any serious aficionado of this film has already purchased one of the superior editions,...

Richard Dreyfuss Marries
Actor Richard Dreyfuss married Russian-born Svetlana Erokhin in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on Thursday - while in town for a speaking engagement at a university. The Mr. Holland's Opus star, who spoke at James Madison University, appeared unannounced at the Rockingham County Courthouse, took out a marriage license and wed in the magistrate's office. According to university spokesman Andy Perrine, "We had no idea (they would be marrying). Although one look at Svetlana and you wouldn't be surprised he wanted to marry her. She's beautiful and has a sultry Russian accent. She is clearly head over heels in love with Richard, who is captivatingly funny. They were like two young loves who couldn't seem to get enough of each other." It is the third marriage for The Goodbye Girl star, who is divorced from second wife Janelle Lacey. He was also previously married to TV production assistant Jeramie Rain from 1983-1995, with whom he has three children.
