Exclusive: Before filming got underway last month on action film The Beast, Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger) came aboard as director, taking over from the previously announced James Madigan (The Meg second unit director).

The team is halfway through an eight-week shoot in Madrid and Spain’s Canary Islands. As we previously revealed, Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction), Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad) and Guy Burnet (Oppenheimer) are starring.

The project had been due to start in early September but was pushed back a little due to LED stages needing further tech prep, we’re told. No reason was given for Madigan’s exit.

The film’s title refers to a presidential limousine nicknamed “The Beast” by the Secret Service. In the movie, when a militia of unidentified hostiles coordinates a coup against the U.S., the president (Jackson) uncovers the extent of The Beast’s highly classified offensive capabilities.

Henry Winkler and Lena Headey have joined Bob Odenkirk in the upcoming action movie “Normal,” from the producing team behind the 2021 hit “Nobody.”

In “Normal,” Odenkirk plays Ulysses, who is appointed substitute sheriff in the tiny Minnesota town of Normal, populated by friendly Midwesterners. When the local bank is sacked, Ulysses “unknowingly uncovers something far more explosive than a simple bank robbery,” per the logline.

Winkler, star of “Happy Days” and “Barry,” will play the mayor of Normal, while “Game of Thrones” and “300” favorite Headey is the local bartender, Moira.

“Normal” is directed by Ben Wheatley from a screenplay written by “John Wick” creator Derek Kolstad, who shares a story credit with Odenkirk. Producers are Marc Provissiero (“Nobody,” “No Hard Feelings”), Odenkirk and Kolstad, who all recently wrapped “Nobody 2.”

Shot in Ontario, Canada, with production led by Exit 44 Entertainment and Palo Pictures, the film centers on Mia (Quinn), who wakes up chained in a remote cabin, only to witness her captor, David (Cuffe), burying a body outside. Knowing she’ll be next, she breaks free and flees through treacherous cliffs and waterfalls while David, haunted by remorse and grief, pursues her relentlessly through the wilderness.

Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep) returns to the world of Stephen King with The Life of Chuck, and Variety reports today that Neon (Longlegs) is “closing a distribution deal” to acquire the film in the wake of it winning the People’s Choice Award at TIFF.

Variety speculates, “The film will likely be released in the summer of 2025.”

Flanagan has let it be known that this isn’t horror, and cast member David Dastmalchian has said the same in a new interview with Gizmodo, describing the film and elements in it as beautiful and heartbreaking.

Dastmalchian, who was also in the recent King adaptation The Boogeyman, said (with thanks to Coming Soon for the transcription), “It’s beautiful. You think, ‘Oh, Mike Flanagan, Stephen King, this thing’s going to just be the most horrifying, terrifying, thing you’ve ever seen.’ [But] it is so beautifully rendered, heartfelt, the drama, the performances. Who is more excited at the moment? The Chenford fans who got to see the couple work through an obstacle and reward themselves with some hot sexytimes, or the Angela and Wesley fans after she revealed that they're expecting again?

A lot happened on The Rookie Season 5 Episode 12, including a fun cameo by Kelly Clarkson, but it was a strong installment for many characters.

Director Marie Alice Wolfszahn’s Mother Superior has taken best feature in the main competition at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival with the abortion-focused anthology Give Me An A garnering the Gold Audience Award during the seventh edition of the festival.

Other main competition jury prize winners at Bhff, which ran from Oct. 13-20 with events held in Williamsburg and Prospect Park, included Wolfszahn for best director, Megalomaniac’s Eline Schumacher for best performance and a special jury mention for the Paolo Strippoli-directed Flowing.

Audible is launching Unlicensed, a detective story starring Molly C. Quinn (Castle), Lusia Strus (Claws) from Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor, creators of the long-running podcast Welcome to Night Vale, which is one of the most popular scripted audio series.

Those uncertain just how seriously Paul Verhoeven intended us to take the alternately earnest and lurid nunsploitation of “Benedetta” will be even more flummoxed by Mickey Reece’s “Agnes.” , in addition to being too underdeveloped and tonally wobbly to satisfy in themselves.

Unlike the squirrelly genre-bender that was the director’s last feature, “Climate of the Hunter,” conceptually near-random “Agnes” does not find its own singular terms to work within. Viewers lured in by the horror-movie marketing will be particularly irked by this bait-and-switch oddity, which Magnet releases to limited U.S. theaters and VOD on Dec. 10.

"You don't have the luxury to be frightened!" Magnet Releasing has unveiled an official trailer for a nun horror film titled Agnes, from filmmaker Mickey Reece. This initially premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, and also recently stopped by Fantastic Fest and the Sitges Film Festival this fall. Rumors of demonic possession at a religious convent prompts a church investigation into the strange goings-on among its nuns. A disaffected priest and his neophyte are confronted with temptation, bloodshed and a crisis of faith. That description sounds a lot like Paul Verhoeven's Benedetta (which I also highly recommend) - but this is something else entirely! Agnes stars Hayley McFarland as the titular nun "Agnes", with Molly C. Quinn, Sean Gunn, Chris Sullivan, Rachel True, Chris Browning, and Jake Horowitz. This looks rather cliche and obvious, especially following the exquisite Saint Maud. But it still might be worth a watch.

One such film is Agnes, a horror-thriller-dark comedy hybrid that features an impressive central turn from Molly C. Quinn as the titular protagonist. To celebrate the film’s showing at Tribeca tomorrow evening, on Saturday June 12th, we had the pleasure of speaking to the actress herself as she tells us all about this unique and harrowing feature, tackling religion on screen, and on starting her production company QWGmire.
