- Brother of Doug Powell, former singer for the Alternative Rock Group "Cave" and now the front man for "The 1201" based out of Kona, Hawaii.
- During his time at Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas, he played Rugby in the Southwest Conference, as he obtained his Bachelor of Science and Biology Degree.
- Began playing golf at a very early age and subsequently won several tournaments throughout his early years. Won his first golf tournament at the age of 7 and his last at the age of 14 where he took home the Junior Club Championship at the Riverbend Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas, setting a course record (for his age group) of 86.
- Every Superbowl Sunday, he is an annual participant in the Long Beach Polar Bear Splash for the Make A Wish Foundation.
- He is a hands-on volunteer for the Make A Wish and The First Tee Organizations.
- Resides in New York with his wife who is an Attorney and Chief Operating Officer for a commercial insurance and risk management brokerage firm.
- Traveled to Alaska, where upon completion of the 5 month musical "Skagway in the Days of '98", he became an active volunteer fireman for the city of Skagway.
