Tatyana Piletskaya was born Tatiana Lvovna Urlaub on July 2, 1928, in
Leningrad, USSR (now St. Petersburg, Russia). In 1945 she graduated
from the Vaganova Ballet School, then studied at the Acting Studio of
Bolshoi Dtama Theatre (BDT) in Leningrad. In 1947 she made her film
debut in Pirogov (1947). She was a staff actress at Lenfilm Studio and also
worked at various theatre troupes in Russia.
Since 1962 Tatiana Piletskaya has been a permanent member of Baltiysky Dom Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, former Lenkom Theatre in Leningrad. There her stage partners were such actors as Era Ziganshina, Andrey Tutyshkin, Vadim Yakovlev, Alla Balter, Natalya Tenyakova, Irina Konopatskaya, Klavdiya Belova, Nadezhda Maltseva, Regina Lialeikite, Natalya Popova, Nataliya Nesterova, Yulian Panich, Roman Gromadskiy, Emmanuil Vitorgan, Aleksandr Slastin, Igor Tikhonenko, Vladimir Tykke, Petr Shelokhonov, and other notable Russian actors.
In 2000 Tatiana Piletskaya was designated the title of People's Artist of Russia. She enjoyed a successful film career during the 1950's and 1960's. Piletskaya continues her stage career at Theatre Baltiysky Dom. She is currently residing in St. Petersburg, Russia.
