Tony Robinson’s much loved 1990s Cbbc sitcom Maid Marian And Her Merry Men is heading to the stage this year, here are the details.
Though Tony Robinson is best known as dim-witted servant Baldrick alongside Rowan Atkinson across several iterations of Blackadder, to a certain generation he is creator, writer as well as playing the role of the Sherrif of Nottingham in Maid Marian and Her Merry Men. A classic show, which ran for four series on the BBC from 1989 to 1994.
For kids TV trivia fans, it is thanks to Maid Marian that Russell T Davies got his start in writing television drama.
Funding and studio time was booked for Maid Marian in 1991, but it was put on hiatus. Davies submitted his script for children’s sci-fi serial Dark Season to both the Head of Cbbc and to Granada. Both were interested, but Cbbc’s offer was better, Maid...

When a season is proclaimed as the final of a series there are certain freedoms it is given, and high expectations from its audience. With Boardwalk Empire: The Complete Fifth Season we see the conclusion to the story of Enoch ‘Nucky’ Thompson (Steve Buscemi) in some episodes that are easily the best the show has offered over the years.
Season five of Boardwalk Empire starts six years after the events of the fourth and it’s now 1931. To close the stories and look to the future of the mob we see the fates of not only Nucky, but also Al Capone (Stephen Graham), Nucky’s brother Eli (Shea Whigham), Chalky White (Michael Kenneth Williams) and a few of the other characters that have made it to the end of the show, or at least into this season.

Sopranos fan Jamie debates the merits of a prequel series documenting the years before Tony Soprano rose to power...
When a link arrived on my Facebook wall with the headline: “David Chase intrigued by Sopranos prequel idea”, my initial reaction, before even reading the article, was to pooh-pooh the prospect. This was a bad idea. The story of The Sopranos is over, the narrative is complete. Don’t flog a dead Pie-o-My. Leave it be. The Sopranos isn’t The Vampire Diaries: it doesn’t need a bloody spin-off. Chase is probably just playing the PR game to drum up click-bait and sales for the series’ release on Blu-Ray. In any case, there already sort-of is a prequel series to The Sopranos: Boardwalk Empire. And it’s finished too, so enough already.
And then I left my brain alone for a few minutes to let it wash and tumble my thoughts together,...

"Boardwalk Empire" came to an end tonight. I spoke at length with creator Terence Winter, and I have a review of the finale coming up just as soon as I think about the things I want in life, then imagine myself in a dress... "What are you in the end, anyway?" "I'm what I need to be." "How's that make you anything at all? -The Commodore & Nucky And so "Boardwalk Empire" died as it lived: with a tightly-plotted installment that paid off many storylines from both the final season and the entire series, and one where the most memorable, powerful scene involved someone other than Nucky Thompson. Although the Nucky material was pretty damn powerful and satisfying in its own right. The most powerful scene in question: Al Capone telling his son about his impending prison sentence, and the boy not only offering to help his dad, but putting up...

If you have yet to watch Sunday’s series finale of Boardwalk Empire, hit the nearest exit. Everyone else, read on…
I knew something was off about that kid!
In the shocking closing moments of Sunday’s Boardwalk Empire series finale, Joe Harper — the club worker Nucky had taken a special interest in — revealed himself to be none other than Tommy Darmody. The interloper dropped that little bombshell on Nucky right before gunning him down in the middle of the crowded Atlantic City boardwalk. (Those of you who figured out the Joe-Tommy twist weeks ago, go ahead and pat yourselves on the back.

A review of tonight's "Boardwalk Empire" coming up just as soon as I catch you in a good mood... "So I did one thing for him, and then another..." -Lindsay Though we have one episode of the series to go, "Friendless Child" essentially brings the story of Nucky Thompson's empire to a close. He gives it all away — save maybe whatever he's doing with Margaret and the Mayflower Grain stock — to Luciano and Lansky, whose takeover of crime in New York and New Jersey is complete, even as they have bigger plans to make organized crime be truly organized on a national scale(*). The war's over, Nucky conceded utterly — choosing to save Willie over continuing a fight he'd likely lose anyway — and that's the show, right? A boardwalk empire falls, and you roll credits. (*) Probably the biggest casualty of the decision to end the show now — and skip over...

As we approach the final reckoning in Boardwalk Empire, there's little room for escape. Here's Michael's review...

5.5 King of Norway
It’s hard not to see this season in a valedictory light, offering a pattern of reunions, score-settling and closure as characters, willingly or otherwise, attempt to find and secure a sense of closure before the shutters finally come down. It comes across like the closing of a circle, or rather several interlinked circles, that bring characters back to where they came from, again whether they like it or not. Such a view places this episode’s reunion of Nucky and Chalky in a similar context to that of Nucky and Margaret last week. In both cases, the exiled come to Nucky, surprising him by their unannounced return. In both cases too, Nucky takes the opportunity to nurture his sentimentality, seeking sweet reminiscences with Margaret and...

A review of tonight's "Boardwalk Empire" coming up just as soon as I protect my fur... "I don't think you know what you are." -Mr. Jeffries That comment by Nucky's future father-in-law is repeated in one form or another to many of the major characters in "King of Norway," who have to figure out who and what they intend to be before it's too late. Is Nucky the upstanding young man he presents himself as to Mabel's father, or the pragmatic climber who offers to help Sheriff Lindsay on special projects for the Commodore to get ahead? Is Chalky the man who wants revenge on Narcisse at all costs, or the man who might be able to reconnect with his old family — or, for that matter, the new one he appears to have with Daughter Maitland? Is Van Alden the henpecked, cuckolded husband of Sigrid, and Eli his blackout drunk sidekick,...

Directed by Jake Paltrow (“Young Ones”), this episode of "Boardwalk Empire" elegantly unfurls the flashback's of Nucky's youth and there’s a lot of nuance and sweetness throughout the episode. As the young Enoch (Marc Pickering) awakens to his surroundings —the wealth, the privilege, the status— he is summarily laid off. Summer's over, the tourists are leaving the Boardwalk and there's no reason to keep on a boy paid to sweep up their mess. "Don't enter a room like a question mark," the Commodore (John Ellison Conlee) scowls at Enoch's meek bearing. The boy is getting life lessons everyday about how the world works, and through the Commodore’s actions, we bear witness in reverse to Nucky Thompson becoming the man he is and where he got his outlook on life. The Commodore keeps the boy on his toes. When he tells him the job is over, he asks Nucky derisively,...

Recently, HBO released the new, official synopsis/spoilers for their upcoming "Boardwalk Empire" episode 5 of season 5. The episode is entitled, "King Of Norway," and it sounds like things will get quite dramatic and intense, once again, as Chalky arrives back in Atlantic City with plans to impose major vengeance, and more! In the new, 5th episode press release: "Chalky (Michael Kenneth Williams) will return to Atlantic City with vengeance on his mind. Concerned about the ongoing threat from Luciano (Vincent Piazza), Nucky (Steve Buscemi) is going to arrange a meeting with Maranzano (Giampiero Judica) in New York. In Chicago, Eli’s (Shea Whigham) reunion with June (Nisi Sturgis) will take an unexpected turn after a dinner party hosted by Van Alden (Michael Shannon) and Sigrid (Christiane Seidel). Capone (Stephen Graham) will look to relocate his operation out of Chicago. Margaret (Kelly Macdonald) is going to complete a deal with Carolyn Rothstein...

Usually, I wait until the end of each "Boardwalk Empire" season to speak with creator Terence Winter about all that happened. In the case of the gangster drama's fifth season, which debuts Sunday at 9 on HBO, a preliminary conversation was necessary. Not only is this going to be the show's final season — earlier than Winter had maybe once intended, but the one he wanted after realizing the direction he had taken the story — but it leaps seven years into the future for Nucky, Chalky, Margaret and the other surviving characters, landing them in 1931. Atlantic City and the rest of the country are still mired in the Great Depression, while Nucky and many of his partners are hearing rumblings that Prohibition may be repealed soon. I've seen the first three episodes of season 5, and though the show is dealing with a shorter order (8 episodes compared to the usual 12), they feel very...

When you first lay your eyes on the DVD case for Kill Keith (depicting TV’s Keith Chegwin in Uma Thurman’s Kill Bill garb and wielding a samurai sword) you really hope that what lies within will be gloriously inspired rather than unspeakably awful. Let’s face it, the idea of a slasher movie starring various TV-am Z-listers being killed off by an unknown “Breakfast Cereal Killer” is a fun idea, no matter how cringeworthy. Sadly, Kill Keith squanders any of its potential novelty value by being a confused and unfunny mess, which is somehow far worse on screen than it possibly ever sounded on paper.

For the last thirty years or so, Keith Chegwin has been known as a friendly, cheeky and jovial TV presenter, commonly seen on breakfast TV waking members of the public at the crack of dawn, and presenting them with substantial amounts of money. Now he’s turned his hand to acting (sort of), as the title character in new Brit-flick, Kill Keith. In fact, as you’ll see in our interview (below), he’s actually returning to acting, having worked on some rather interesting projects early in his career.
In addition to discussing his acting experience (look out for my ‘surprised face’ when he explains where he worked with Russell Grant and Duran Duran’s Simon LeBon), we spoke about some of the more amusing people he’s door-stepped, how he ended up playing himself in the project and how the promise of regular pay meant that he ended up...

Writer/director Andy Thompson helms his first solo feature 'Kill Keith' and it arrives in UK theatres tomorrow. The new British comedy horror follows a serial killer with unhealthy obsession for Brit TV presenter Keith Chegwin. Our international readers may not be too familiar with Cheggers but you would undoubtedly remember his hilarious appearance in the Orlando Bloom episode of Ricky Gervais' hit Brit sitcom 'Extras'. Our very own Faye Coulman recently got the chance to talk with Keith and you can check out the full interview below. 'Kill Keith' stars Susannah Fielding, Marc Pickering, David Easter, Simon Phillips, Dominic Burns and Ellie Jacob along with various TV stars such as Russell Grant, Joe Pasquale, Vanessa Feltz and legendary DJ Tony Blackburn. Kill Keith
Stars: Marc Pickering, Susannah Fielding, David Easter, Simon Phillips, Tony Blackburn, Joe Pasquale, Keith Chegwin | Written and Directed by Andy Thompson
Oddity alert! Sound the quirky alarm! Horror-comedy meets breakfast TV in this low budget gurn-a-thon, which comes across as some sort of unholy mash-up of Morning Glory and Seven. Kill Keith stars Marc Pickering as Danny, a runner on a breakfast programme, who is in love with its charming presenter Dawn (Susannah Fielding – 4.3.2.1., Doctor Who, Pete Versus Life) and wishes to replace the arrogant co-host Cliff (Easter) at her side on the sofa. The programme is called ‘The Crack of Dawn’, in one of the film’s slightly more sophisticated (really) if smuttier jokes.
Unfortunately for Dawn and daytime TV presenters everywhere, the so-called Breakfast Cereal Killer (again, indicative of the level of humour) is at large, bumping off C-list celebs in breakfast-themed ways. Tony Blackburn, Joe Pasquale,...

Following on from the teaser released earlier this month, here’s the full-length trailer for the Brit horror-comedy Kill Keith which stars Marc Pickering, Susannah Fielding, Joe Tracini and David Easter in a film that sees someone out to kill some of the UK’s most beloved daytime celebrities including Tony Blackburn, Joe Pasquale, Russell Grant and obviously, given the films title, Keith Chegwin.
The film, which is brilliantly described as a “hilarious horror film with a comedy twist that is set to explode like a bowl of porridge left in the microwave for too long”, comes from director Andy Thompson and is set for release in the UK on November 11th.
Welcome to the world of Breakfast TV, with chirpy presenters who wake us up with their positive attitudes and happy dispositions – but something sinister is afoot – there is a killer on the loose, The Breakfast Cereal Killer and few are safe…...

It stars Keith Chegwin, Tony Blackburn, Susannah Fielding, Dominic Burns, Simon Phillips, Marc Pickering and Joe Pasquale, and will be in UK cinemas 11.11.11.

Are you like me and would prefer to just sleep in every morning? I can't understand the concept of "morning person". As far as I'm concerned, I never want to hear those two words together unless they are preceded by "…gruesome death of a…". But when you are forced to wake up early, what's the worst part of it? The morning news shows that are so sugary they make you want to puke. And that is the subject of Kill Keith.
This UK horror-comedy romp stars Keith Chegwin as himself in a film that is described as Saw meets "Richard and Judy". (Don't worry; I didn't get the reference either without looking it up. "Richard and Judy" was a British morning show of the same ilk as the ones described above.) Blech.
Kill Keith hits theaters on November 11 and has the potential to be a Shaun of the Dead flavored treat.

The official Facebook page for the Brit comedy has revealed some rather immodest images of its eponymous star Keith Chegwin looking a bit more “macho” than normal:

To follow on from the first teaser trailer that we put up a while back, we’ve been sent the second teaser for new movie, Kill Keith which shows us how the movie was created… sort of!
Kill Keith stars Marc Pickering, Susannah Fielding, Joe Tracini and David Easter plus Keith Chegwin, Tony Blackburn, Joe Pasquale, Russell Grant and is directed by Andy Thompson. It follows the rather unlikely story of someone on a hunt to kill the legendary Keith Chegwin!
I’ve placed the full synopsis below. You’ll be able to see the movie in UK cinemas 11th November.

A stroke of genius, or completely & utterly bonkers I don’t know, but Kill Keith sure has one of the more intriguing and unique film concepts you are likely to see all year. Basically a remake of Quentin Tarantino’s death list revenge thriller Kill Bill but set around Breakfast Television (!), the Brit horror/comedy is about a cereal killer (!!) who attempts to knock off his own death list of potential celebrity candidates who are up for the job of co-presenting the nation’s favourite morning show – “The Crack of Dawn” – after it’s male presenter leaves.
In breakfast telly’s A-list ensemble elite, basically The Expendables of the daytime goggle-box, Keith Chegwin, Tony Blackburn, Joe Pasquale and Russell Grant all star as co-presenting hopefuls and therefore targets for the killer. Meanwhile Danny Nichols (Marc Pickering), a hapless studio runner who day dreams about being the new co-presenter so he...

Any trailer which has the tag-line ‘Saw Meets Richard and Judy’ has to be worth a watch! Kill Keith does what it says on the tin and is an entire movie based around killing TV presenter, Keith Chegwin! Kill Keith also stars Tony Blackburn and Joe Pasquale. Andy Thompson directs with a script from Thompson, Tim Major and Pete Benson.
The movie also stars Simon Phillips, Susannah Fielding, Marc Pickering, Dominic Burns and Joe Tracini. I’ll let the synopsis do the talking…..
Keith ‘Cheggers’ Chegwin is a household name and has been at the top of his game for nearly 40 years. He’s an all round entertainer and has lived with us via our TV screens on Swap Shop as kids through to GMTV as parents. He is undoubtedly a national treasure, and for nearly four decades has been much loved by viewers young and old. But now it’s time to Kill Keith.
