With over 600 confirmed film appearances over a 35 year span, Lee is near the top of the list of Hollywood's most prolific but virtually unknown supporting players.

He appeared in four Best Picture Academy Award winners, the last two of which were in consecutive years: Grand Hotel (1932), The Great Ziegfeld (1936), You Can't Take It with You (1938) and Gone with the Wind (1939). Lionel Barrymore also appeared in both of the first two films.

Along with appearing in four Oscar Best Picture winners, he also appeared in nine other Best Picture nominees: The Divorcee (1930), The Champ (1931), She Done Him Wrong (1933), The Thin Man (1934), A Star Is Born (1937), The Philadelphia Story (1940), The Talk of the Town (1942), Anchors Aweigh (1945) and Father of the Bride (1950).
