Steve Perry was super gracious as he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with his former band, Journey. Steve sang the band's praises in a speech that was devoid of bitterness. It was all love at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn Friday night, as the former front man called out guitarist and songwriter Neal Schon for bringing him on board back in the day. Interesting .. With a little help from Journey's Steve Perry, Keith Urban and his musical road crew - all 65 strong - posted a video thanking fans for support as his successful "Raise 'Em Up" summer tour came to a close. Shot behind the scenes, from tour bus bunks to arena stages, the funny footage features everyone, including supporting acts Jerrod Niemann and Brett Eldredge offering up their own bit of karaoke as they lip sync to Journey's 1983 love anthem, "Faithfully." Legendary Journey frontman Steve Perry has a voice doppelgänger in Arnel Pineda of the Philippines. Pineda's unlikely rise to fame and fortune is deftly told in the PBS Independent Lens' film "Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey" coming September 30. The tale and the documentary are equally remarkable. Pineda's rise from obscurity to world wide fame played at several film festivals last year, and now will debut Sept. 30 (check your local PBS listings). Producer and film director Ramona Diaz was at the recent Television Critics' Association summer press tour and spoke about Arnel's unlikely journey. In 2007, a friend of singer Arnel Pineda began uploading YouTube videos of him covering classic Journey and other songs. Halfway around the world,...

The 2012 music-filled documentary film Don’t Stop Believin’: Everyman’s Journey follows the real life rock-n-roll fairy tale story of Filipino singer Arnel Pineda, who was plucked from YouTube to become the lead singer and front man for the iconic American rock band, Journey, replacing the legendary Steve Perry and leading the band on its most extensive world tour in years.

This is a scientific fact: The first trailer for "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" arrived online late Tuesday night, putting the Channel 4 News Team back in action with help from Journey, Kristen Wiig and Baxter. "This just feels right," Paul Rudd's Brian Fantana says in the "Anchorman 2" trailer. "The news team is back."
Indeed they are, but it's a different time. Like the 1980s. Following what looks like a spell of bad choices on the level of milk, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) and his pals (Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner) are asked to come back to the world of broadcasting for a brand-new, 24-hour news channel. They accept ("I'm going to do the thing that God put Ron Burgundy on this Earth to do: have salon-quality hair and read the news") and ... that's about all you'll get from this trailer beyond lots of lolz and the dulcet...

Steve Perry's journey isn't over. The 64-year-old former Journey frontman revealed in an emotional blog post on Thursday, June 6, that he was recently diagnosed with skin cancer -- but he believes he's going to be fine. "Three weeks ago a routine mole was taken off my face and the lab report came back melanoma skin cancer," he wrote. "I've had two surgeries in two weeks to remove all the cancer cells and I've been told they think they got it all and no other treatments are required." Perry [...]...

No need to stop believin' that Steve Perry will be just fine. The former Journey frontman has revealed that he recently underwent surgery for melanoma. "Three weeks ago a routine mole was taken off my face and the lab report came back Melanoma skin cancer," Perry wrote June 6 on his blog. "I've had two surgeries in two weeks to remove all the cancer cells and I've been told they think they got it all and no other treatments are required." But while Pery, 64, had some good news for his fans, he also had a sad story to share. The Street Talk artist also wrote about losing his girlfriend Kellie Nash in December to breast cancer that ultimately spread to her...

-- Anthrax "Anthems" (Mri/Megaforce)
There's a revelation on Anthrax's "Anthems" Ep: Rush's music is annoying, no matter who plays it.
The speed metal kings, driven by drummer Charlie Benante's infatuation with early Neil Peart, chose Rush's "Anthem" as the inspiration for their eight-track Ep in which they cover classic 1970s rock bands that influenced them. Suffice it to say the jarring stop-and-start timing and riffing of a Rush song doesn't work with the heaviest of heavy metal bands, either.
But the rest of this all-too-short disc is like hard-rock comfort food, hewing closely to the originals, with some special Anthrax sauce on the side. Best is a cover of Cheap Trick's "Big Eyes," which blends the band's melody with Anthrax's harder edge.
"Smokin'" is a cover of the classic Boston ode to inhalables, and "Jailbreak" puts a fine point on the Thin Lizzy classic.
Singer Joey Belladonna shows his vocal versatility here.

Arnel Pineda’s life of poverty and struggle was forever turned upside down after being discovered on Youtube by they iconic rock band Journey. Don’T Stop Believin’ : Everyman’S Journey narrates through Pineda’s personal tale of struggle, and his transformation into the lead singer of a world renowned band.
Arnel Pineda might be the fourth leading man for the classic rock band Journey, but he certainly has an interesting tale that makes him stand out from the pack. The band was faced with the challenge of finding a new front man to replace iconic vocalist Steve Perry, who left the band for both personal and health reasons in 1998. Steve Augeri took the reigns from 1998 until 2006, when the band dropped him due to chronic throat problems. Jeff Scott Soto filled in for the remainder of the tour, but they band still needed to find a permanent singer.

Plot: What happens when an Seventies/Eighties rock band is looking for a new lead singer? For the hit-makers Journey once fronted by Steve Perry, the answer was found on YouTube. It was then that a young man from the Philippines was plucked from obscurity and found himself on tour with the popular retro act. Review: As ridiculously difficult as it may be to make it in the music business, it seems we are hearing a whole lot about overnight sensations or YouTube .celebrities.. Don.T Stop...

If you told Steve Perry in 1982 that the Journey song "Faithfully" would one day be parodied as an ode to Keyboard Cat, Ermahgerd and Feminist Ryan Gosling, he'd have smacked you in the mouth for speaking such nonsense.
But in 2013, it's a reality. Humordy made this spot-on anthem to the tune of "Faithfully" called, fittingly, "Favorite Memes," that tells the story of how far into the internet rabbit hole he would go. Check it out.

Johnny Cash: Blood, Sweat and Tears (Columbia)
Some of Cash's '60s concept albums were burdened with much too talking between tracks; here the tribute to the American working man gets to mostly stand alone on its musical merits, and shines. Notably, it incluces the top version of the traditional "John Henry"” about the most legendarily heroic working man ever, and the version of "Casey Jones" here is classic as well. Politically and psychologically, Cash was the perfect man for this job.
1968
Byrds: Notorious Byrd Brothers (Columbia)
Sometimes transitional albums, confusing listeners expecting a group's earlier style, are underrated. Not so with this classic. It's true that it didn't sell as well as earlier Byrds LPs, nor did the single from the album chart very high, but for decades Notorious Byrd Brothers has been widely revered, and not just by fans; some critics have even anointed it as the band's best album.

Glint in their eyes notwithstanding, Terry McDermott says he and his mentor Blake Shelton never had a “devious master plan” for choosing songs to cover during his tenure on NBC’s The Voice.
“We tried not to overthink it,” says the man who would eventually become the Season 3 runner-up. “We just tried to be faithful to my artistry and to the people who were supporting me through the show. I didn’t want to have them all excited about classic rock of the ’70s and ’80s, and then suddenly change it up so much that I disappointed them.”
