Jim Carrey had some choice words for Benito Mussolini’s granddaughter in response to their Twitter spat.
“It’s a little disconcerting that she’s in government, not because she’s in government, but because she’s obviously still embracing evil,” Carrey told Variety’s Marc Malkin at CinemaCon about Alessandra Mussolini, a member of European Parliament.
The actor and political artist recently stirred controversy by tweeting a drawing of Benito Mussolini and Mussolini’s mistress, Claretta Petacci, hung by their feet. He wrote, “If you’re wondering what fascism leads to, just ask Benito Mussolini and his mistress Claretta.” Alessandra responded on Twitter with, “You are a bastard.”
You are a bastard

Carrey said, “She can always flip the cartoon upside down. And it looks like her grandfather is jumping for joy because he just got the head count. There’s her solve right there.

Jim Carrey has returned to acting with projects such as the Showtime comedy series “Kidding” and the upcoming family tentpole “Sonic the Hedgehog,” but that doesn’t mean he’s giving up his second career as a painter. One of the actor’s latest paintings depicted the executions of Benito Mussolini and his lover Claretta, accompanied by the following caption: “If you’re wondering what fascism leads to, just ask Benito Mussolini and his mistress Claretta.”
Carrey’s painting showed Mussolini’s body hanging upside down, which occurred in real life after he was shot by partisans and his body was brought to the Piazzale Loreto in Milan, Italy. The image received a fiery response on social media from Alessandra Mussolini, Benito’s granddaughter. The politician snapped back at Carrey, replying, “You are a bastard.”
The response went viral with over 13,000 likes and sparked a debate in Alessandra’s replies.

While we are all sick and tired of hearing about "Paranormal Activity" in the Us, the film just hit theaters in Italy. And the country's emergency response services have since been overwhelmed with calls of panic attacks. According to the Ansa news agency, there were "panic attacks lasting more than half an hour. The more serious case is that of a 14-year-old girl who was brought to the hospital in a state of paralysis." Alessandra Mussolini, granddaughter of the Italian fascist dictator and head of a parliamentary committee on children, said "Paranormal Activity" had "highly distressing content" and was causing "panic attacks and psychological problems among youths." "I don't think we can ban 'Paranormal Activity' now, but surely we need to study how to warn parents of the risks their children are incurring," Mussolini said. The Italian parents' association noted that admission to the movie is restricted in the United States,...

With the recent drama between the sequel to Paranormal Activity and the Saw franchise our attention has been focused elsewhere. That changed tonight with reports coming out of Europe, most notably Italy for the Worldwide premier of the state side box office smash Paranormal Activity. From 911 calls to a 14 year old girl in a state of paralysis the film is having a major impact on the culture...
Here's the full story per Afp (translating a report by Italian news agency ansa.it):
"Italy's emergency response service reported dozens of calls, especially from southern Naples, where "several panic attacks lasting more than half an hour took place on Saturday," an employee told Ansa. "The most serious case is that of a 14-year-old girl who was brought to the hospital in a state of paralysis," he said.
"For the past two weeks a trailer has been shown obsessively on TV and is terrifying thousands of children.

Aside from waiting for an update on the status of its sequel and rooting for it to win an Independent Spirit Award on March 5th, we honestly haven't been paying too much attention to Paranormal Activity's roll-out across the rest of the globe. But all that changed today with the report that despite being a box office hit in Italy, the film has "kicked up a storm among [Italian] politicians and associations on Monday because it is terrifying teenagers and children across the country." Bravo, Oren!

Venice -- Politics reared its head on the Venice Lido over the weekend, when two leading political figures objected to a Romanian film screening out of competition at the Venice Film Festival and called for it to be blocked if a few key phrases are not removed.
"Francesca," a drama from Romanian director Bobby Paunescu, tells the story of Romanian girl considering emigrating to Italy. While discussing the possibility with her mother, harsh words emerged in reference to parliamentarian Alessandra Mussolini (the granddaughter of former Italian strongman leader Benito Mussolini) and Verona mayor Flavio Tosi -- both known for strong anti-immigrant stances.
Mussolini is referred to a "bitch that wants to kill Romanians," and Tosi is called a "shitty mayor." The two leaders want the offending phrases removed, and Mussolini has threatened to sue the film's producers and block its distribution in Italy.
