If you're going to give a Kurt Russell blockbuster the TV spin-off treatment without the involvement of your star, you better have some sort of trick up your sleeve. In the case of "Stargate Sg-1" — a continuation of the story that began in Roland Emmerich's 1994 movie "Stargate" — the showrunners brought in MacGyver himself to help lead the show and fill the hole left by Russell.
Richard Dean Anderson played the United States Air Force Colonel Jack O'Neill in "Sg-1," giving the character a more sarcastic edge than Russell in his big-screen performance. For the first eight seasons of the series, Anderson was the lead, heading up the special operations team that traversed the universe via the titular portal. But by the time his character was promoted to brigadier general at the start of season 8, Anderson had already begun to scale back his involvement in the series. That promotion meant...

2002 was the year of the release of the already legendary Firefly. During its short life on television, the series managed to gain cult status, an army of loyal fans and an honorable place in the list of the best science fiction projects.
However, the love of critics and viewers could not save Firefly from a quick cancellation. The Fox network expected sky-high ratings, but its bosses interfered with the filming process and even showed episodes in a different order than the creators intended. As a result, the show was axed after its first season.
If you still haven't come to terms with Firefly's short life and have already watched its one and only season a hundred times, then you should pay attention to a series that went unnoticed by many viewers, but definitely deserves the attention of sci-fi fans – Dark Matter, released in 2015.

The Quietly Superb ‘Dark Matter’: Blast Off With the Crew of the Raza for Quarantine Sci-Fi Escapism
Photo: 'Dark Matter'/Syfy Syfy’s Canadian science-fiction series ‘Dark Matter’ is everything to love about a pulpy space opera: a ragtag group of space pirates, heists that inevitably turn into blaster or sword battles, an endearing and increasingly human-like android, and a doozy of a mystery. When six people and an android aboard the starship Raza awaken from stasis to find their ship on critical life support, they realize none of them have any memory of who they are—or were. Someone on the ship tampered with their memories, but who, and why? “Dark Matter” (Syfy)
The “Dark Matter” TV series came years after the debut of the Dark Horse comic book it’s based on, but creators Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie originally conceived of the series — about six individuals who wake up on a starship together with their memories wiped — as a TV show before it was redeveloped as a comic in 2012.
“Wynonna Earp” (Syfy)
Syfy has a number of science fiction series based on lesser known comic book titles, including the fan-favorite “Wynonna Earp,” starring Melanie Scrofano as the demon-fighting descendent of legendary lawman Wyatt Earp.
“Outcast” (Cinemax)
After the massive success of AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” creator Robert Kirkman went on to adapt his supernatural horror comic series “Outcast” for television. The adaptation, starring Patrick Fugit as the titular outcast, debuted on Cinemax in 2016.

Dark Matter creator Joseph Mallozzi has revealed the real reason behind the show's cancellation...
Sad news arrived for fans of Syfy's Dark Matter recently: the show was not picked up for any further episodes.
The third season of the series, based on Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie’s graphic novel, came to a close last week, and with news breaking that Killjoys had been renewed for another two seasons, hopes had been raised that Dark Matter would receive the same treatment. Unfortunately, this was not to be, and word of the cancellation hit the crew behind the cult favourite hard.
Now, co-creator Mallozzi has taken to his blog to explain exactly why the series was nixed.
“Working against us was the fact that we weren’t a SyFy original. We were an acquisition," he revealed. "For those not in the know, an original is a...

Although many of our favorite shows are about to take a few months off, that doesn’t mean your TV will become obsolete during the summertime. SyFy intends to heat things up with the release of two trailers promoting the sophomore seasons of Dark Matter and Killjoys.
I admit that it’s not often I become addicted to a summer series, but I found myself pleasantly surprised when Dark Matter effectively entralled me with its intrigue, space exploration, and great characters that were just as unaware of who they were as the viewer was. With the team having been betrayed from within during the first season’s finale, I expect the new dynamic added to extend the scope of what’s been established.
In addition to the promo video, which can be viewed at the top, SyFy has released an official synopsis that provides insight into the coming season as...

A thought experiment: what if a suitcase full of circa 1980s Days of Our Lives plot devices crossed proton streams with a science fiction drama? You’d probably experience something like Episode 3 of Dark Matter, which comes complete with crew in-fighting, mysterious and coincidentally timed ship malfunctions, a misfit teen, and – dun, dun dun – a cliffhanger ending featuring an evil twin / clone. In other words, Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie used up a season’s worth of willing suspension of disbelief tonight. The Android is increasingly the brains of the operation, acting as cruise director, pilot and chief … Continue reading →

Syfy is jumping into the comic book-adaptation game, having acquired the rights to Dark Horse's Dark Matter graphic novel series. The network has picked up a 13-episode series based on Dark Matter, which actually only spawned four issues. The series will keep things in the Syfy family, as the original Dark Matter comics comes from Stargate writers Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie. The original comic tells the story of a spaceship crew who all wake up from stasis with no memory of their mission or even who they are. They begin to look for answers when the ship reaches its destination,...

Syfy have added another geek-friendly programme to their busy slate - an adaptation of the Dark Matter comics.
Along with 12 Monkeys, Dominion, Defiance, Five Ghosts, Hunters and Incorporated already on their slate, Syfy has recently announced it is working on another new series - an adaptation of Dark Matter.
Based on the Dark Horse graphic novels of the same name, Dark Matter will be a thirteen episode drama.
Stargate’s Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, who also created the comic, are leading the adaptation to the screen, with Prodigy Pictures helping Syfy out with the production.
As you may already know, Dark Matter was published across four parts in 2012, and sees the crew of an old spaceship wake from stasis memory-less. A twisty narrative stuffed with danger and deception follows. It was, we're told, originally intended for telly.
Sounds like an interesting project to us. We’ll be sure to pass on any updates.

Exclusive: Filming of Cinemax’s upcoming series Transporter has been temporary suspended after the series star, Chris Vance was injured while shooting an action sequence. I hear no return has been set and the hiatus is expected to last at least 2 weeks. “We want to ensure Chris’ return to peak physical condition before putting him back in front of the camera to continue shooting this fast-paced, action-packed series,” executive producer/showrunner Steve Shill said. Transporter had been shooting in Toronto, with production on the series’ 12-epiosde order slated to continue through November. The series underwent a change at the helm in August when executive producers/original showrunners Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie left over creative differences. Shill then stepped in as the new showrunner. Based on Luc Besson’s Transporter film franchise, the series stars Chris Vance as professional transporter Frank Martin, who can always be counted on to get the job done — discreetly.

"The Hunger Games" teaser at the VMAs was more than just a passing glimpse at the upcoming film: it was a taste of things to come. Director Gary Ross caught up with Hollywood Crush over Skype and said that the movie, like the book, is going to be very much from the perspective of its main character, Katniss Everdeen.
"That's one of the fun things about it. There are times when you're viscerally inside [Jennifer Lawrence's] shoes, and that's the main experience," he said. "And there are other times when you're witnessing her the way they're witnessing her in the Game—and she's constantly being watched, which is one of the things that makes the book so compelling. But it's mainly an intense first-person experience, inside Katniss' shoes."
