Hollywood doesn't forgive. One moment you're on top, then you're not. In some instances, though, the downslide shouldn't surprise anyone, as all it takes is a string of rotten performances or a mega box office bomb to blacklist a star from the industry. Still, how do you explain the actors who disappear from showbiz after a major breakout role then? That's where it gets interesting and complicated.
Even though the world of glitz and glamor appeals to the outside audience, it isn't always as remarkable for the people on the inside. Success comes in different shapes and forms for others, and that's okay because life would be boring otherwise. In some instances, actors lose interest in Hollywood and all it has to offer. It could be that they wanted to experience a slice of normality, or grew sick and tired of playing political games to secure parts, so they choose another path to take.

The Star Wars films contain dozens of notable cameos. Some are subtle, while others are far more obvious (Jack Black and Lizzo in The Mandalorian). But one secret cameo may rule them all: legendary western star John Wayne was in Star Wars: A New Hope, released in 1977.
You'd be forgiven for never noticing his brief appearance in the film, especially considering most fans didn't know for years that the cameo even existed. The whole thing might've been forever forgotten if not for legendary sound designer Ben Burtt, whose credits include the original Star Wars trilogy, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Blade Runner. Speaking with Star Wars Blog years ago, Burtt revealed that the character Garindan, played by Sadie Eddon in A New Hope, is actually voiced by none other than The Duke himself, John Wayne.

John Wayne was a humbled man early in the 1960s. His passion project, "The Alamo," had fallen well short of box office expectations in 1961. An epic Western about the siege of the basement-less San Antonio mission, Wayne directed the film and took its failure personally. He didn't need a hit; even at his lowest point in the 1970s, a Wayne picture at a certain budget level was an automatic greenlight. Still, Wayne was a prideful man who actively tended to his legacy; he was mindful of his fan base, and sought their approval. So Wayne came charging out of his corner in 1962, and knocked out every last naysayer with Howard Hawks' "Hatari!," "How the West Was Won," "The Longest Day" and John Ford's "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance."
The Ford movie could've been Wayne's Western swan song, but a rifle-toting Wayne astride a horse still held commercial appeal,...

Ah, the fall. In the words of the great philosopher Calvin, "Bugs are dying by the truckload! Ha ha ha! Good riddance to 'em all!" We've still a few weeks left of summer on the calendar, but the days are already getting shorter and dead, crunchy leaves have suddenly begun turning up in my backyard. More relevant to this discussion, it's that time of year when Netflix's original slate typically becomes a whole lot more interesting. This is when the streamer starts rolling out the awards season hopefuls it acquired at film festivals earlier in the year, along with some of its more niche genre films and TV series.

The animated series “Solar Opposites” has brought significant alterations both behind the scenes and within its storyline for the fifth season on Hulu. The show, which centers around an alien family stuck on Earth, has introduced a new voice actor for a principal character and revived an important villain from earlier episodes.
British actor Dan Stevens, known for starring roles in “Downton Abbey” and “Beauty and the Beast,” now voices the character of Korvo, one of the main aliens. This replaces the previous voice actor Justin Roiland, who co-created the show but lost his job after facing domestic violence charges in 2020. Stevens said he’s enthusiastic about the new part in an interview, expressing his passion for voice acting in adult animation projects.

British up-and-comer Laura Marcus (The Serpent Queen) will portray Mollie Garfield opposite Michael Shannon, who leads as the 20th Potus.
The series from Mike Makowsky (Bad Education), which is being EP’d by Game of Thrones and 3 Body Problem‘s Benioff and Weiss via their overall deal with Netflix, tells the stranger-than-fiction true story of Garfield’s assassination by Charles Guiteau (Matthew Macfadyen).

The Royal Ascot is Britain’s annual horseracing festival and a significant event for the royal family. It has been a staple in the summer social calendar of the royals since 1711 when Queen Anne established the annual race meeting.
Members Of The Royal Family Are Allowed In The Royal Enclosure
It is a five-day event and England’s equivalent to the Kentucky Derby, except it is more formal, proper, and prestigious. The opening day of the Royal Ascot this year was June 18th.
Each day of racing starts with the Royal procession from Windsor Castle, where the King, Queen, and accompanying members of the royal family come to the track in horse-drawn carriages.
Members of the royal family are allowed in the Royal Enclosure, established in 1822, when the area was explicitly reserved for the family and guests of King George IV to see the first running of the gold cup.

Harry called the press’ treatment of Meghan a “wave of abuse and harassment” after news of their romance became public.

The Rocky movies are pretty synonymous with cinema. You’ve got every kind of movie you could want, the intimate Academy Award-winning underdog original and its closely knit sequel, the fun and cheesy spectacles of Rocky III and Rocky IV, the misguided attempt to recapture its roots with Rocky V, and the old war horse, broken down, one-last-fight inspiration of Rocky Balboa. The story behind the first movie is as engaging as the movie itself, which is why it will be the subject of a new movie from Peter Farrelly called I Play Rocky.

The set will encompass all versions of the commercially released films in Uhd, which includes both the theatrical version of Rocky IV and the recut Rocky Vs.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could have led the royal family out of its current royal health crisis. However, a royal correspondent believes the palace “failed” by allowing the couple to exit without anticipating such situations. They could have taken the “full mantle” while King Charles and Kate Middleton recuperated.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could have stepped in during health crisis
Royal correspondent Daniela Elser believes Kensington Palace didn’t contemplate every possible situation when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle exited the royal family in 2020. When the couple chose to leave their duties as senior royals behind, the palace let them go.
Elser wrote, “Thanks to Harry’s memoir Spare, [the palace’s] attempts to come up with some strategy never really got off the ground. While the idea was floated for the Sussexes to relocate to South Africa, which they were keen to do, that fell by the wayside after it ended up in the press.

Prince Harry’s no longer a “royal highness,” as far as the British royal family’s website goes. It underwent a small update, particularly surrounding the Duke of Sussex’s title, which an expert doesn’t believe was a “slight.”

The end was in sight for John Wayne when he took the part of aging gunfighter J.B. Books in Don Siegel's 1976 Western "The Shootist." He was only 69, but the quintessential American movie star hadn't been nice to his body. Decades of drinking and smoking had taken their toll. He'd lost a lung and a couple of ribs to cancer in the 1960s, but had evidently been in remission since. Still, his energy was flagging. He'd struggled throughout the filming of "Rooster Coburn," and was being asked to literally hop back on a horse in the elevated altitude of Carson City, Nevada. He had not been diagnosed with a return of the cancer that would kill him three years later, but The Duke looked a deathly shadow of his former, swaggering self.
Culturally, there was a sense that people should celebrate Wayne while he was still around (for those willing...

In its initial opening weekend, "Creed III" genuinely knocked out box office expectations (and records), its competition, and prior "Rocky" first weekends all in one punch. This third franchise entry sees Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) confronted by his past in the form of childhood-friend-turned-enemy Damian "Dame" Anderson (Jonathan Majors). Following an early situation that left Dame locked up while Adonis got away, Dame reemerges after almost two decades' incarceration with dreams of restoring his once-promising early boxing career. It's yet another memorable performance from the electric Majors in bringing Dame to life, alongside Michael B. Jordan expanding the "Creed" universe as both filmmaker and star.
While "Creed III" certainly boasts great performances and stunningly executed fights, one of its greatest elements is the film's attention to detail, showcasing the filmmakers' love for and knowledge of the sport of boxing. Woven into Dame's arc, character, style, and fighting habits are...

(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
There are few franchises as enduring and roundly beloved as "Rocky." Sylvester Stallone was a nobody actor who managed to pick himself up by his bootstraps and turn this story of a nobody boxer into a critical darling and box office smash, as well as an enduring piece of Americana. More than that, the perceived quality of this franchise, nearly 50 years after its inception and nine films in, is pretty damn impressive. But before "Creed" came along to revitalize the series for a new generation, it was "Rocky Balboa" that revived it and made the spin-off possible in the first place.

For nearly fifty years, the saga of Rocky Balboa has been one of the most enduring works of American fiction. The powerhouse first movie told the story of a boxing underdog who gets, and makes the most of, the chance of a lifetime, which dramatically paralleled the rags-to-riches story of the film's own writer and star, Sylvester Stallone, a no-name actor who built a blockbuster career out of "Rocky." It was practically legendary from the start, though its massive success was a double-edged sword.
Over the course of four sequels and a spin-off trilogy, Rocky Balboa proceeded to inspire generation after generation with satisfying stories about defying the odds, reclaiming your dignity, and that one time Rocky bought a robot. Over the course of four sequels and a spin-off trilogy, Rocky Balboa proceeded to inspire generation after generation with satisfying stories about defying the odds, reclaiming your dignity, and that one time Rocky bought a robot. But there's one film in the series that most people, including Stallone, don't think was a success.

It’s been nearly 50 years since a southpaw from Philly went the distance with Apollo Creed. Back then it was a genuinely euphoric moment in cinema, so feel-good that Rocky over-performed at the box office and Oscars, beating out flicks like Network and Taxi Driver for Best Picture, and making Sylvester Stallone one of the biggest movie stars of his generation. Yet even the most elated audiences could scarcely predict how long a tail Balboa’s left hook would have.
Forty-six years on, the legacy of Rocky and Apollo grows with nine films and counting, including six Rocky movies and three Creed films, the latter about Apollo’s son Adonis (Michael B. Jordan). And as time passed, many of the installments have become as synonymous with their eras as, well, Rocky is with the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Hence we here at Den of Geek have put...

Rocky Balboa (Stallone) recently retired, but his accountant landed him into some serious financial troubles. He makes the bold decision to mentor a younger boxer named Tommy (Tommy Morrison). Meanwhile, Rocky tries to improve his relationship with his son, Robert (Sage Stallone).
Rocky V sits at the bottom of all of the movies with 31% on both the Tomato-meter and the audience score. It strives to capture the original film’s spirit, but it falls incredibly short.

There isn't a more instantly identifiable movie location in the United States than Monument Valley. Situated at the Arizona-Utah border, the area provides a visually striking backdrop thanks to its series of buttes. John Ford made the valley famous via his groundbreaking Western "Stagecoach," and revisited it throughout his legendary career. Over the last 74 years, filmmakers as diverse as Stanley Kubrick, Sergio Leone, Harold Ramis, Steven Spielberg, and Michael Bay have dropped in on the ruggedly beautiful locale with everything from hominins, Chevy Chase, and Transformers. It's a cinematic sandbox every movie lover is desperate to visit. And we all have Ford to thank for this.
Or perhaps not.
One of Ford's other major discoveries was a monument of a man named John Wayne. The tall, swaggering Iowan seemed consigned to a career as a star of B-Westerns until Ford decided he was literally ready for his close-up in "Stagecoach.

It's rare to see John Wayne back down in a standoff, but that's exactly what happened when shooting one of his most revered films. By 1939, Wayne was no stranger to Westerns, though he wasn't yet a household name. Wayne had already appeared in a string of uncredited roles in films by the legendary director John Ford in the late '20s. So, when Ford made his triumphant return to the Western genre with "Stagecoach" he tapped Wayne for the lead character, Ringo Kid.
Casting Wayne was the first of a lengthy series of battles with United Artists. The studio wanted a big name for the film, but Ford had a feeling about the charismatic 32 year old and insisted on him for the role. Ford introduces viewers to Wayne in dramatic fashion, with a zoom-in on a rifle-wielding Ringo Kid in front of a gorgeous landscape of Monument Valley plateaus (where...
