It’s about 8:15 in the morning on a warm, midsummer Friday about 40 miles north-northeast of the Hollywood TMZ, as I try to keep pace with the brown Porsche 911 in front of me.
We are winding through the back canyons of Angeles Crest Highway in Angeles National Forest on the way to Newcomb’s Ranch for the Good Vibes Breakfast Club. I pick up the walkie-talkie in the front seat of the Hyundai Elantra N — the tricked-out sport version of the brand’s sedan — and radio over, “Don’t wait for me, keep going.”
Moments later, the brown 911 — delightfully called “Rolling Coffee Bean” by its owner, actor and comedian Byron Bowers — speeds off through the straightaways and esses of Little Tujunga Canyon until it’s a smudge in the distance.

In the "Futurama" episode "I Second That Emotion", the crass alcoholic robot Bender (John Dimaggio), having become fed up with Leela's pet whatsit Nibbler (Frank Welker), flushes him down the toilet. Leela (Katey Sagal) is distraught, but Bender is fecklessly unapologetic. The Professor (Billy West) finds that Bender may be incapable of empathy, and solves the issue by hammering a high-tech emotions chip into his head. The chip psychically links to Leela, and Bender begins feeling horrible. To solve their mutual sadness, Bender and Leela decide to go into the sewers to rescue Nibbler.
In the lore of "Futurama," the ruins of Old New York are deep underground and the city of New New York was built on its ruins.
Before going into the sewers, though, Leela finds a nearby manhole cover and removes it with a manhole hook. The manhole cover bears the face of a bored-looking man,...

Modern Family is back… but don’t expect a reboot.
Four of the original cast members of the ABC sitcom are returning to their roles, starring in a new commercial for WhatsApp, the chat platform owned by Meta.
The stars, Julie Bowen (Claire Dunphy), Ty Burrell (Phil Dunphy), Eric Stonestreet (Cameron Tucker), and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell Pritchett), are reprising their roles for the spot, which pokes fun at group chats in which some members have an iPhone and a blue bubble, and others have an Android phone with a dreaded green bubble.
The platform is pitching itself as a solution to that “divide,” using the ABC sitcom as a hook.
Watch:
Ferguson sparked online rumors of a Modern Family reboot when he shared a photo from the set of the sitcom, captioning the photo “Haven’t seen this view in a while.” He declined to share more when asked...

Jerry Seinfeld took a shot at Friends in a new digital short promoting his new film Unfrosted, a comedy about the creation of Pop-Tarts.
Seinfeld made his directorial debut in the Netflix film about how the toaster pastries came to be. A new short ahead of the film’s release on May 3, Seinfeld visits Kellogg’s corporate offices in Michigan due to “trademark infringement.”
“You see, Mr. Seinfeld, you took something of ours, and now we’re going to take something of yours,” says the fictional President of Pop-Tarts, Kelman P. Gasworth.
Tarty, the Pop-Tarts mascot, then proceeds to unveil former Seinfeld characters trapped in a box. Making a cameo in the spot are Alexandra Wentworth’s Schmoopie, Phil Morris’s Jackie Chiles and Larry Thomas’ The Soup Nazi.
“My characters!” Seinfeld says.

Pop-Tarts is getting back at Jerry Seinfeld.
It all started when Seinfeld directed and co-wrote a movie, Unfrosted, about the origin of Pop-Tarts. He also stars in the film, which hits Netflix on May 3.
Unfrosted tells the (fictional) origin story of Pop-Tarts, which resulted in a race between breakfast rivals Kellogg’s and Post to create a pastry for the masses in 1963. While Pop-Tarts do indeed have an origin story, this is not it. (The idea had been percolating with Seinfeld for several years — he even made jokes about Pop-Tarts in his stand-up routine and once tweeted he was mulling over the idea of this film — but Pop-Tarts was not involved in the making of Unfrosted.)
“This really did happen in Battle Creek, Michigan, where Kellogg’s and Post were located, and they did compete to come up with this product,” Seinfeld has said. “But the rest of it is complete lunacy.

It’s a bit of an irony that just as NBC’s “Must-See TV” juggernaut took off in 1994, execs there found themselves right in the middle of a completely different kind of televised spectacle: The O.J. Simpson arrest, trial and eventual acquittal.
Not only was then-nbc West Coast president Don Ohlmeyer one of Simpson’s best friends, but just a month before the killings of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman — followed by Simpson’s white Ford Bronco flight from justice and arrest — NBC had passed on a pilot starring the ex-football-star.
“It was just a strange time to be there because of Don’s loyalty to O.J.,” recalled Preston Beckman, who was NBC’s head of scheduling at the time, and one of Ohlmeyer’s and NBC Entertainment president Warren Littlefield’s key lieutenants. Ohlmeyer would occasionally bring up Simpson during the network’s afternoon meetings in their Burbank offices,...

Comedian Jim Carrey was chosen to play Ebenezer Scrooge in Disney’s 2009 version of A Christmas Carol. But before that, the actor starred in the film I Love You Philip Morris, which caused a bit of concern for the studio.

Carrey once collaborated with Star Wars alum Ewan McGregor for the film I Love You Phillip Morris. The 2009 comedy picture saw Carrey playing a cop that decides to reveal his true sexuality after an accident. McGregor portrayed his love interest in the film, and wasn’t shy about the movie ultimately being a gay feature.
“I’m very keen that it’s a gay movie,” McGregor once said according to NBC Dfw. “There was quite a lot of talk at Sundance [in 2009] that ‘Well, it’s not a gay movie.

Onetime Disney Channel starlet Bella Thorne says that she was nearly made to bow out of Shake It Up!, due to a choice in beachwear.
As a recent guest on the High Low With EmRata podcast, Thorne recounted instances of being sexualized as a preteen and teen, including an instance where, at age 10, she said a casting agent reported back to her mom, “she’s not moving forward because the director felt like she was flirting with him, and it made him really uncomfortable.”

This supernatural thriller digs deep into the underbelly of a weird backwoods idyll
Developed from a 2016 short, Matt Glass and Jordan Wayne Long’s post-us Civil War supernatural thriller isn’t just atmospheric and characterful, it’s an often shrewd allegory of the US self-image as the shining “city on a hill”. Thomas Hobson plays James McCune, a black doctor and war veteran nurturing physical and psychological wounds, who is summoned by his Uncle Matthew (Phil Morris) to a post in Norfolk, a walled town sequestered deep in the Ozark forest. When he arrives, he is shocked to encounter a biracial paradise where, as the preachy saloon murals have it, “To each their purpose”. But there are strict rules, imposed by Matthew, about venturing beyond the palisade where horned ghosts are apt to emerge from banks of red fog with a particular hunger for local troublemakers. As another mural counsels,...

Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) has quit the LAPD and is now a private investigator who makes “fewer compromises” in the first trailer for Imbd TV’s “Bosch: Legacy,” the spinoff of Prime Video’s longest-running original series, police drama “Bosch.”
While he’s off the force, his daughter Maddie (Madison Lintz) is now a rookie cop who seems able to handle herself just fine. Her dad tells her, “You have to decide what kind of cop you want to be. It’s either a mission or it’s just a job.” Given that both her parents were cops, Maddie’s mission seems clear, if only dad can stop worrying about her working the East Hollywood beat.
The spinoff finds Harry reluctantly teaming up with former enemy, attorney Honey “Money” Chandler (Mimi Rogers) and relying on jazz-loving tech guy Maurice “Mo” Bassi (Stephen A. Chang).

This Doom Patrol review contains spoilers.
Doom Patrol Season 2 Episode 5
Well, that escalated quickly. After what seems like a fairly low-key episode where Doom Patrol lulls viewers into a false sense of security, all hell breaks out, and there’s no going back now. A stark shift from the party atmosphere of last week, “Finger Patrol” delivers betrayal, murder, and a severed finger. Oh, and a ‘70s-inspired opening credits for a show starring our robot cops.
The episode feels like a little bit of clean up after the Danny party, and at first it seems as if our characters will be processing the emotions and revelations from that episode. Rita goes to audition for community theater, Larry sets out to help his son Paul clean out his dead son’s home, and Vic basically stalks Roni (with Cliff in tow), and Dorothy seems content to be a little girl and play with Baby Doll.

Superman: Red Son is one of the most iconic Elseworlds stories ever created, and now it’s been adapted for the screen as the next DC animated movie to come from Warner Bros. Animation. Forget everything you know about America’s greatest superhero though as in this alternate universe, he’s no longer an American.
Based on the 2003 limited comic book series by Mark Millar, Dave Johnson and Killian Plunkett, Superman: Red Son explores what would happen if Kal-El’s Kryptonian pod hadn’t crashed into Smallville, Kansas but a farm in the Ukraine instead. The result is that Superman’s raised by Josef Stalin and becomes a key weapon during the height of the Cold War. The knock-on effect is that the DC universe changes around him, with different versions of the likes of Batman and Green Lantern turning up.

The only thing better than spending Christmas in paradise is finding love.
What wasn't there to love about Same Time, Next Christmas? It starred the glorious Lea Michele and the super hot Charles Michael Davis. The supporting cast was just as spectacular, and the location shots were gorgeous.
They transported us to the lovely resort along with them. When you're in the midst of a snowstorm, you appreciate the idea of spending the holidays with sand between your toes.
It's such an unusual tradition for a family to start. Olivia's family spent over 20 years attending the same resort in Hawaii for Christmas. They never had a break or considered going anywhere else.
Not only is that expensive as hell, but that's dedication. From the time she was five, she could remember playing on the beach, building sandcastles, and playing in the ocean.
Olivia; A white Christmas is for suckers.

The Martian Manhunter has so far been a no-show on the big screen, but this serious oversight may soon be corrected, as apparently, Warner Bros. is planning a movie starring the shapeshifting alien. What’s more, our sources – the same ones who told us a Green Lantern show was coming to HBO Max, which we now know to be true – have informed us that the studio is looking for a person of color to play J’onn J’onzz in the film and that it will be part of the Dceu.
Of course, the fact that the Dceu’s Martian Manhunter will be played by a non-Caucasian actor isn’t a huge shock, as it’s become the norm for J’onzz to be portrayed as African-American in his human form. Carl Lumbly voiced the hero in the Justice League animated series while Phil Morris played him in Smallville. And obviously,...

Now that Batman: Gotham by Gaslight has opened the door for various other Elseworlds tales to be adapted as animated films, Superman: Red Son will be the first to follow in its footsteps. To be quite honest, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise because the limited series written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Dave Johnson has long remained one of the most popular in the line, not to mention DC fans demanding this become a reality for years.
To briefly sum up what that story entailed for those unfamiliar, what you need to know going into your first viewing of the animated flick is that it explored that possibility of baby Kal-El’s rocket landing in Soviet Russia instead of in Smallville, Kansas. As you can imagine, the Comrade of Steel had a very different upbringing than the hero we’ve come to know otherwise.

In the midst of all the movie, TV and comic book announcements and trailers that we got at this year’s Comic-Con, the upcoming slate of DC animated films being revealed was one of the most exciting. After all, Warner Bros. Animation has a pretty good track record when it comes to these and they’ve got a lot of good stuff coming down the pipeline, with Superman: Red Son perhaps being the one that grabbed the most attention back in July.
If you’re not familiar with the source material, Red Son was initially published as an Elseworlds story written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Dave Johnson. In short, it explored what would’ve happened if baby Kal-El’s ship had landed in Soviet Russia instead of Smallville, Kansas. And now, we have our first look at what the animated version will be like thanks to the photo in the gallery down below.

DC's animated movie adaptation of Superman: Red Son is almost here. Here's everything you need to know...
Superman: Red Son is the next iconic DC Comics story to get the animated feature treatment, and it's coming very, very soon!
Indeed, the 2003 comic miniseries from Mark Millar, Dave Johnson, and Killian Plunkett, which might just be the best known Elseworlds tale ever, is set land its animated movie in February, 2020.
The original story imagines a world where baby Kal-El's ship crashed in Ukraine instead of Kansas, and then Superman was raised as a Soviet superweapon. It features some of the sharpest Elseworlds design work ever done, adapting the entire Justice League into brutalist Soviet art styles. And it's one of those rare Millar books where the heart is bigger than the shock value of the story.

Though it got off to a rocky start, one could certainly say that the DC Extended Universe is getting back on track. Sure, Justice League may have massively underperformed at the box office (yet was quite entertaining) after Wonder Woman proved to be a massive success by her lonesome, but then Aquaman made a billion dollars and Shazam! is already garnering much praise. Hopefully future offerings like Joker and Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) can keep the ball rolling.
If these trends continue, then perhaps Warner Bros. will continue mining DC Comics’ mythology even more. In fact, a source close to We Got This Covered is telling us that Martian Manhunter is the character next on the docket. Of course, we have The Batman and The Suicide Squad to consider in 2021, but J’onn Jonzz could logically prime himself for theaters in 2022 if the ball gets rolling in time.

Even though he’s currently playing Cyborg’s father, Silas Stone, over on DC Universe’s Doom Patrol, it sounds like Phil Morris is more than willing to find the time to reprise his role from Smallville. As you may recall, he won many of us over during his turn as the Martian Manhunter when the Superman prequel series originally aired.
Seeing as how Crisis on Infinite Earths was one of the biggest – if not The biggest – crossover event in the history of DC Comics, it stands to reason that The CW intends on living up to the legacy. As such, many Arrowverse fans are expecting that the multiverse be generously explored, as John Wesley Shipp’s Flash from Earth-90 already appeared during the “Elseworlds” prime time extravaganza.
If all works out, then maybe we can see Dean Cain suit up as Superman once again or, fingers crossed, a handful...

Doom Patrol improves as it gets strangers and stranger. Alan Tudyk's mocking narration certainly helps.

Doom Patrol Episode 2
Enter Cyborg. After premiering last week with a weird, off-the-ball introductory pilot full of comic book nods, the second episode of Doom Patrol connects itself to the larger DC Universe. But it does so without sacrificing the heart, and absurdity of the show about super-zeroes. I mean, this is an episode featuring a talking cockroach who is a doomsday disciple, and a pocket universe inside a donkey–which is to say “Donkey Patrol” is weirdly great.
If you’ll recall (and how could you forget?), the pilot ended with the villainous Mr. Nobody’s flatulent donkey ripping open a portal that began sucking in the citizens of Cloverton, Ohio. We pick up pretty much there, as Nobody offers “welcome back to the shit show.

Smallville actor and comic book aficionado Phil Morris discusses playing Silas Stone and opening up Star Labs on Doom Patrol.
Phil Morris is a self-described fanboy actor. The actor is known for portraying Martian Manhunter on Smallville, giving voice to Vandal Savage, Imperiex, and several other DC Comics characters in animated adventures, as well as being a regular in the Star Trek universe since 1966. Now, as he makes his debut on DC Universe’s Doom Patrol as S.T.A.R. Laboratories genius Silas Stone, Morris said it’s no coincidence he keeps showing up in genre shows.
“I feel like I’ve done this homework since I was 7 years old,” said Morris in a recent interview. “I have 20,000 comic books. I am a fanboy, a rank and file member of this universe.”
Silas is the father of Victor Stone, aka Cyborg (Joivan Wade), who also makes...

We recently learned that the classic DC comic Batman: The Long Halloween is going to be getting a two-part animated film from Warner Bros. Animation. Well, now another classic DC comic story is reportedly in development.
According to Revenge of the Fans, DC is developing an animated adaptation of Mark Millar’s Superman: Red Son. This is another DC Comics story that fans have been wanting to see adapted for a long time. I’m not sure why it took so long, but at least it’s happening now!
For those of you unfamiliar with Red Son, it’s an Elseworld story that puts an interesting twist on the Superman mythology… what if Superman crash-landed in the Soviet Union instead of Kansas?
Here’s the official synopsis:
“Imagine a reality where the world’s most powerful super-being does not grow up in Smallville, Kansas – or even America, for that matter…...
