For his follow-up to “Tiger King,” documentary filmmaker Eric Goode is returning to the wild world of exotic animal trading and the strange human characters who populate it.

“Chimp Crazy” is a four-part docuseries that will premiere Aug. 18 on HBO and Max. HBO released a trailer on Tuesday. It tells the story of Tonia Haddix, a nurse-turned-exotic animal broker from Missouri, and Tonka, a 32-year-old retired Hollywood chimpanzee who comes under her care. Haddix, an eccentric woman who refers to herself as “the Dolly Parton of chimps,” loves Tonka more than her children, and will do anything to protect him and her other chimps from people who want to take them away from her. The HBO Original four-part documentary series Chimp Crazy, produced and directed by filmmaker Eric Goode (Tiger King), will debut on Sunday, August 18 (10:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. Et/Pt) on HBO and will be available to stream on Max. New episodes will debut on subsequent Sundays at the same time.

Former nurse-turned-exotic animal broker Tonia Haddix, who refers to herself as the “Dolly Parton of chimps,” spends her days caring for animals in captivity. Originally we heard Unearthed Films would be releasing James Cullen Bressack's controversial home invasion thriller Hate Crime on DVD in August, but now it's been pushed to October. Check out the details and artwork.

The second feature film by James Cullen Bressack, Hate Crime is a labor of love from a dedicated group of people looking to make something different. It is a violent, realistic portrayal of one of our worst nightmares: being attacked in our home. It'll be available October 15th, which coincides with the release of Bressack's latest project, To Jennifer (from Mvd).

Hate Crime was written and produced by Bressack and Jarret Cohen and stars Jody Barton, Tim Moran, Ian Roberts, Nick Clark, Maggie Wagner, Greg Depetro, Debbie Diesel, and Sloane Morgan Siegel.

Let’s get the standard caveat out of the way first – I hate, no, loathe the “found-footage” sub-genre of horror, it’s often used as a cheap and easy way to tell a bad story. There are of course exceptions to this rule – of which Hate Crime is one.

Hate Crime has, at it’s core, a very simple premise. A family are gathered together to celebrate the birthday of the youngest member and as the father has done every year, he films the occasion. Only this year is different, in the midst of the celebration the family are subjected to a violent home invasion by a trio of masked men brandishing guns and waving swastikas, determined to...

The Beholder Short Film has premiered. Nisha Ganatra‘s Beholder (2011) stars Jessica Pare, Rupak Ginn, Elaine Hendrix, Michael McMillian, and Michael Mosley. Beholder‘s plot synopsis: “Beholder takes place in the biosphere-protected Red Estates, a gated community with a socially conservative political majority. At a clinic where patients can genetically engineer their children, Sasha, the wife of rising political star Bobby Aryana, is informed that her baby carries the genetic marker for homosexuality. By the laws of Red Estates, this is an aberration that must be dealt with immediately, and Sasha must decide between staying faithful to the love of her life or risking everything. Touching on issues of race, sexual orientation, and conformity, Beholder examines the notion of identity and the costs of belonging.” This was higher quality than I was expecting. It seemed like a segment of a larger story. The genetically engineering children storyline has a distinct similarity with Jim and Soldier.

On March 16, out director Nisha Ganatra's new film, Beholder, will premiere as part of the Itvs/ PBS series FutureStates. FutureStates is a modern day Twilight Zone series for which ten filmmakers were selected to each make an episode that takes place in the future and explores a political idea in the realm of a fictional film. Beholder stars Jessica Paré (of Mad Men and Lost and Delirious) Elaine Hendrix (from Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion and Superstar) and Michael McMillian (True Blood), with Rupak Ginn (Royal Pains and Private Practice).
