Exclusive: Jason Moore (Shotgun Wedding) and Nick Santora (Reacher) are teaming on a film adaptation of Playing for Pizza, the New York Times bestselling novel by John Grisham, for Skydance Sports.

Moore will direct from Santora’s script, with Jesse Sisgold, Jason Reed, and Don Granger producing for Skydance Sports, along with Mark Ciardi and Campbell McInnes for Select Films. Sandino Moya-Smith will oversee the project for Skydance Sports.

Released in September 2007, Playing for Pizza is a departure from the legal thrillers for which Grisham is best known. The book tells the story of third string quarterback Rick Mastro, the pariah of the football world after one of the worst single performances in NFL history. Cut by his team and with no options left, Rick lands a job as the starting quarterback of the Panthers…of Parma, in the Italian Football League. The Panthers desperately want an NFL winner.

Anna Kendrick has established herself as a versatile and talented actress, earning critical and audience acclaim through a range of compelling performances across various genres. From her breakout role in Rocket Science (2007), where she showcased her ability to embody a complex, confident teenager, her recently released Netflix movie Woman of the Hour which she directs and stars in, Kendrick’s filmography highlights her remarkable depth and range.

Popular animated series Rugrats is heading back to the big screen, this time in a film which will include a hybrid of live action and animation.

Rugrats was one of the most popular children’s shows of the 1990s. Created by Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó and Paul Germain, the series followed the midadventures of five infants – Tommy, Phil and Lil, Chuckie and Anjelica. It ran for nine seasons between 1991 and 2004.

The show became popular enough that in 1998 feature film The Rugrats Movie arrived in cinemas. This was followed in 2000 by Rugrats In Paris. In 2003, Rugrats Go Wild, which was a crossover with Klasky and Csupó’s other hit show The Wild Thornberrys, was released.

Spin-off series All Grown Up! ran for five seasons between 2003 and 2008. series of a CGI reboot of Rugrats was made for Paramount+ between 2021 and 2023, but it was removed from the streaming service in March this year.

Nickelodeon animation favorite Rugrats is getting new life from Paramount Pictures.

The studio is developing a feature adaptation of the long-running series that will be a hybrid of live-action and CG. Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) is attached to direct the film Rugrats that is based on the series of the same name. Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó and Paul Germain co-created the show.

Saturday Night Live writing partners Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell penned the script for the movie. Producers on the project include Klasky, Csupó and Karen Rosenfelt.

Centering on toddler pals Tommy, Chuckie, Phil and Lil, Rugrats debuted in 1991 on Nickelodeon and ran for nine seasons before signing off in 2004. Paramount released the theatrical feature The Rugrats Movie in 1998, and it was followed by two sequels.

One of Nickelodeon's most beloved shows is coming back to life as a movie, but it sounds like it's going to be a recipe for straight-up nightmare fuel. While it's best not to judge something until we see it, this one is tough to swallow. A live-action/CGI hybrid "Rugrats" movie is currently in the works, according to Deadline. Full details have not been made available, but that alone is enough to raise a great many eyebrows.

According to the report, Jason Moore is on board to direct the film. Since Nickelodeon is owned by Paramount, presumably that studio will distribute the movie. The beloved 1990s animated series from Nickelodeon is getting the live-action treatment from Paramount, with “Pitch Perfect” director Jason Moore on board to direct the new project. He’ll be working from a script by “Saturday Night Live” regular Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell. Paramount is describing the feature as a “a live-action CG hybrid,” based on the original series created by Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó, and Paul Germain. Karen Rosenfelt is producing, as are Klasky and Csupó.

So yes, the babies will be CGI.

The original animated series followed a group of toddlers as they went on adventures, escaped into their own imaginations and struggled to understand the adult world. It was defined by its sharp writing, iconic theme music (from Devo member Mark Mothersbaugh) and unique, very ‘90s postmodern design aesthetic, pioneered by animation studio Klasky Csupo.

The film will follow Tommy Pickles and his friends Chuckie Finster, Phil and Lil DeVille who will be animated in the movie, which is set in the real world, similar to Sonic the Hedgehog.

Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore is directing the film. Saturday Night Live actor Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidell wrote the script.

Rugrats first premiered on Nickelodeon in 1991 and ran for several seasons, along with spawning films like 1998’s The Rugrats Movie, 2000’s Rugrats in Paris and 2003’s Rugrats Go Wild. A Paramount+ reboot aired in 2021 as well.

Hopefully, those May flowers will start blooming soon after the many April (and previous months’) showers. But whatever the weather, Netflix has a solid selection of new movies to watch this month.

Netflix’s May lineup has several bright and joyful animated films as well as more serious stories with light at the end of the tunnel. Tom Hanks’ latest theatrical release “A Man Called Otto” arrives on the streaming service, adapted from Frederick Backman’s book “A Man Called Ove” and following the story of a grumpy old man who struggles to find purpose in life after the death of his wife.

Animated adventures for the whole family include “The Croods” and “The Tale of Desperaux” which teach lessons of bravery in their own ways. For those in the mood for slightly quirkier stories, Jason Moore’s “Pitch Perfect” and “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events” should do the trick.

“The Mother” is like a lot of Netflix action-dramas of late: A mix of different genres with hints of a darker, possibly richer story, that ended up being excised due to budget and/or time constraints.

There is a lot of well-worn inspiration to be found in its familiar plot, from the survivalist parent/daughter relationship found in the 2011 feature “Hanna” to another Jennifer Lopez feature, 2018’s “Second Act” in which Lopez’s character is also at odds with a daughter she gave up at birth named Zoe.

All of this is to say a film like “The Mother” shouldn’t work, and it doesn’t completely gel 100 percent. But in the hands of Jennifer Lopez and director Niki Caro, the film as a whole mostly comes together as an action-packed (at times), contemplative (at times) and entertaining story of maternal self-sacrifice.

If you’re coming for an assassin’s daughter, you better be ready for that assassin to come for you. Of course, that’s kind of the bad guy’s whole intention in the first trailer for the new Netflix film “The Mother.”

That assassin is played by none other than Jennifer Lopez, and apparently, she’s ruffled more than a few feathers. As the footage opens on her in a hospital bed, she’s told that, after getting several FBI agents killed, the only thing she can do to keep her daughter safe is to leave her behind.

And so, reluctantly, she does. But, as is almost always the case with dangerous assassins, her past catches up to her — and her daughter. When the girl gets kidnapped as part of an effort to lure Lopez’s character back in, she offers an ominous warning.

Despite the month of January being exceptionally good to us film fans so far, it appears we have finally found a movie that’s rather terrible in the form of Shotgun Wedding, directed by Jason Moore, whose previous film Sisters wasn’t too impressive, either, sadly.

There’s a moment in “Shotgun Wedding” where Jennifer Coolidge does what she does best — making a scene feel spontaneous when it’s intentional.

Coolidge plays Carol, mother of groom Tom Fowler (Josh Duhamel) who is getting married to Darcy (Jennifer Lopez) at a fancy destination wedding in the Philippines. Pirates disrupt the painfully planned ceremony, taking the wedding guests hostage to blackmail the father of the bride (Cheech Marin) into giving them a large sum of money. While the couple’s friends and family are corraled in the pool, Tom buys time by suggesting they get married right then and there.

As the hostages line up to create a wedding aisle in the pool, Carol starts belting out the opening lines of Edwin McCain’s “I’ll Be.” Director Jason Moore tells TheWrap why he picked the wedding staple.

As a performer, Jennifer Lopez is used to a lot of costume changes. In her new rom-com “Shotgun Wedding,” costumers had a whopping 28 versions of her wedding dress. Lopez approved Mitchell Travers’s very first sketch of the gown, which gets bruised and battered as much as her character Darcy does.

By the film’s end, the dress is definitely in no condition to be passed down.

Just as the premise of “Shotgun Wedding” fuses romantic comedy and action, the ending also combines those two elements, but not without some twists and turns.

“There are a couple [twists] towards the end that I know actually surprised the audience,” director Jason Moore told TheWrap in an interview. “In our test screenings we actually asked, ‘Did you see this coming?’ and 95 of the people said no, so it’s fun to have a movie that has a couple of secrets inside of it.”

Directed by Jason Moore (“Pitch Perfect”), “Shotgun Wedding” rolls romance, stunts and danger together with the help of a stacked ensemble cast as well as the occasional needle-drop moment. Mark Hammer’s script, developed from producer Alexander Young’s idea, lends itself well to humor, laughter and touching scenes between the leads as well as their supporting wedding parties.

If anyone was holding out hope that Alejandro González Iñárritu would change his mind about directing a superhero movie, I don’t have good news for ya.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker doubled down on his dislike of the tentpole genre when I caught up with him at the recent BAFTA Tea Party in Beverly Hills. Calling superheroes “sad figures,” Iñárritu said, “I see heroes every day. I see beautiful people really going through very difficult situations and doing incredible things. And that is the people that I kind of connect with. But these kinds of superpower heroes, really do we need that?”

He continued, “If you need that, is there something missing … instead of admiring what we have, the possibilities that we have?”

The new film "Shotgun Wedding" highlights the danger of having a reasonably interesting concept without similar follow-through. When the trailer was released a couple of months back, there were a number of folks on Twitter who seemed delightedly mystified at how a seemingly innocuous romantic comedy about a bride and groom getting set for their wedding in the Philippines turned into an action movie when said wedding is beset upon by vicious pirates. And the setup is indeed kind of a welcome and dark twist on the friendly, low-key, and low-stakes comedies that star Jennifer Lopez has made throughout her career. But the execution of the setup is desperately wanting, in part because the film and too many (though not all) of its players don't have the right comic notes or even know which ones to hit.

Jennifer Coolidge's Tanya McQuoid is the most fascinating character on HBO's "The White Lotus." She's presented as an insecure, high-powered entrepreneur (with an impeccable fashion sense) who has made a fortune thanks to her inheritance and a life out of transactional relationships. She knows what she wants, she's never embarrassed to ask for it, she's self-aware in less than advisable ways, and she adores massages. To put it simply: she's awesome.

Tanya also loves being loved and wanted — although her husband Greg doesn't deliver on that front. Now, Coolidge's character has a pretty tragic fate at the end of season 2, but that doesn't mean it has to be the end for her character. Personally, I want to see creator Mike White bring her back as Tanya's long-lost twin sister or something. Though this idea might not be ideal ... the Emmy-winning actress has a better one in mind: give Tanya an origin prequel series.

Jennifer Coolidge would love to play Tanya McQuoid again.

As fans of “The White Lotus” know, Tanya was killed off in Season 2 of Mike White’s award-winning series. However, Coolidge says she needs others to get White on board to bring her back in some way.

“For me, I think it looks like I’m a whiner or something,” Coolidge told me Wednesday at the premiere of her new action rom-com “Shotgun Wedding.”

I suggested that Tanya get her own origin story prequel series. “If you can get that going,” Coolidge said. “You’re going to run into [White], I know you are. Tell him.”

She wasn’t too happy when she learned about Tanya’s demise. “I said, ‘Do I really have to be killed?’” Coolidge recalled. “And [White] said, ‘Yes, it’s over, Jennifer.’”
