Exclusive: Chris Pratt has boarded Fighting Spirit: A Combat Chaplain’s Journey, a feature documentary directed by Rich Hull and former combat chaplain Justin D. Roberts, as an executive producer.

Also new to the project is Falling Forward Films, the outfit led by distribution veteran Scott Kennedy, which will release the film in theaters for Veterans Day. Pic will unspool in over 20 major U.S. markets, including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Dallas, on November 8. Check out a trailer above.

Marking the first-ever co-production between Hollywood and the U.S. Army Chaplain Corps, Fighting Spirit‘s story begins when the remains of prisoner-of-war and Army combat chaplain Emil Kapaun are identified after 70 years, with much of our nation being captivated by their journey home. As a younger former chaplain unexpectedly embarks on his own journey to greet them, he becomes inspired by the untold stories of the 419 U.S.

Sometimes, as humans, we fail to measure the weight of our own actions, and in our sheer ignorance, push a person off a cliff. We don’t often realize the consequences of our actions until it is too late, and that’s what happened with Benjamin. The young boy committed suicide when Sophia McElroy, the daughter of a powerful U.S. senator, bullied Benjamin, and later a journalist named Jake Mills, publicly harassed him through his news sensationalized news report. Benjamin’s father, David couldn’t bear the loss and therefore decided to avenge his son’s Wrongful Death by taking it out on the people who forced him to take his own life.

David kidnapped Sophia and Jake and locked them up in a torture chamber designed like an escape room where the rules were simple: they needed to confess their crimes and take responsibility for what they did to Benjamin.

Exclusive: The upcoming documentary Fighting Spirit: A Combat Chaplains Journey has received the rare honor of a screening at the Vatican.

The film written and directed by Rich Hull and Justin D. Roberts – a former combat chaplain himself – is produced by Paulist Productions and the U.S. Army Chaplains Corps, marking the first ever co-production between Hollywood and the chaplains corps. Built around the story of Emil Kapaun, a combat chaplain who died as a prisoner of war in North Korea in 1953, the documentary examines the ultimate sacrifice made by hundreds of U.S. military combat chaplains.

“In 2021, when the remains of former Pow/Mia Army combat chaplain Emil Kapaun, possibly the Vatican’s next saint, are identified after 70 years, much of the nation is captivated by their journey home,” notes a description of the film.

A federal jury awarded a gay couple $100,000 after they sued former Kentucky clerk Kim Davis for refusing to grant two same-sex couples, David Ermold and David Moore, and, James Yates and Will Smith, marriage licenses.

Davis was found guilty of violating the couple’s constitutional rights and was voted out as a Rowan County clerk. She cited religious beliefs as her reason for denying the license.

Davis also spent time in jail over her refusal to perform her duties of her office. She was later freed after her staff issued the licenses on her behalf, but her name was removed. The incident involving Davis would later influence the Kentucky state legislature to enact a law that removed the names of all county clerks from state marriage licenses.

The Ashland jury awarded Ermold and Moore $50,000 each, while Yates and Smith received no damages in a ruling by U.S. District Judge David Bunning.

Author Harlan Coben is back at Netflix with his fifth novel adaptation, as the streamer takes on “Fool Me Once” with a limited thriller series starring Michelle Keegan, Richard Armitage and Joanna Lumley.

The New York Times bestselling writer re-upped his deal with Netflix in October, with the multimillion dollar pact giving the streamer access to his more than two dozen titles. Longtime collaborators Danny Brocklehurst, Nicola Shindler and Richard Fee will executive produce along with Coben.

Exclusive: Grossinger’s Catskill Resort Hotel, which inspired Dirty Dancing and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, is getting its own feature doc treatment.

The Borscht Belt resort in upstate New York, which catered to a large Jewish clientele, is to be the subject of a new documentary from Bungalow Media + Entertainment.

It is one of a number of documentary and unscripted projects from the company founded by Robert Friedman, which is also behind Little Richard: I Am Everything, the Dee Rees-exec produced CNN feature doc that is premiering at Sundance, and Discovery+’s Serving The Hamptons.

The Grossinger’s project will be directed by Paula Eiselt, who directed 2022 Sundance darling Aftershock, which was picked up by Hulu. Harris Salomon exec produces the project, which has just started production. Private equity investor David Moore, who is a minority investor in NBA team Atlanta Hawks, is funding the doc.

The film follows Jake (Diemer) as he drives his older brother Pete (Ettinger) home for a family intervention after his most recent suicide attempt. While on the drive, the two brothers struggle to come to terms with the past, while trying to survive and cope with the present.

Draper plays Gail Duffy, mother of Jake and Pete and wife to the brothers’ demanding father Warren Duffy, played by J.K. Simmons. Ohama plays Mary, a farm owner who Pete and Jake meet in Idaho along their journey.

“Little Brother” is inspired by a close friend of O’Donnell’s, who took his own life — with the film aiming to destigmatize and push conversations surrounding mental health and suicide.

Rowan County, Kentucky, clerk Kim Davis refused to issue a marriage license to David Ermold and his partner of 15-years in August 2015 on religious grounds against same-sex marriage.

And now, over two years later, Ermold, an assistant professor of English at the University of Pikeville, was face-to-face with Davis again as he filed to run for her job. On Wednesday, Ermold, who was joined by husband David Moore, sat across from Davis in her office to file paperwork to run for County clerk.

Women directors make up 70% of competition films.

Abu Dhabi Film Festival (Adff) (Oct 23-Nov 1) has announced the selection for this year’s Emirates Film Competition (Efc).

The upcoming edition of the competition features a total of 53 films, of which 37 films are directed by women, across a variety of genres.

The line up also features films by Emirati filmmakers such as Nasser Al Tamimi’s Female Scream, Nasser Al-Yaqoubi’s Haneen, Hassan Kiyani’s Marwan The Boxer and Ali Mostafa’s musical Rise. In addition, Sarah Al Agroobi’s Super Lochal is among the selected films.

At this moment in time, James Cameron’s Avatar has grossed $2,265,499,113 worldwide. That extra digit in front means billion, which equates to two things: Cameron rakes in slightly more than your average Jimmy John’s employee, and there will be a sequel.

Forget all the buildup to an official announcement; any project that rakes in that sort of dough will receive a follow-up.
