Lovely, raven-haired Ofelia Montesco was a Mexican actress who was born in Peru. She was born Ofelia Irene Grabowski Edery in northern Peru in 1936. In the late 1950s, she visited Mexico, where producer Gregorio Walerstein discovered her and thus launched her film career. Ofelia got the Mexican nacionality at that time. She made her film debut with an uncredited walk-on role in the Cantinflas vehicle Ups and Downs (1959) but got her big break with her first starring role in Alejandro Galindo's La vida de Agustín Lara (1959), opposite Germán Robles. Throughout the following decade (1960s) she worked steadily in leading and supporting roles; some of her leading men were film stars Luis Aguilar, Antonio Aguilar, and Rodolfo de Anda. Although she participated in a few telenovelas, her film appearances decreased considerably in the 1970s. She died in 1983, at age 46.
