Set for release Oct. 6 from Rialto Pictures, director Susanna Fogel’s feature premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival and is adapted from author Kristen Roupenian’s viral New Yorker short story of the same name. Cat Person offers a look at contemporary dating by focusing on college student Margot (Jones), who has a fling with an older man named Robert (Braun) but soon gets suspicious about him.

After Margot expresses regrets about her time spent with Robert — who had previously described himself as a cat person — her friend Taylor (Geraldine Viswanathan) asks if at least his pet felines were cute. “I never saw them,” Margot replies ominously as she begins to doubt how honest he’s been.

The folks at Studiocanal and Rialto Pictures have released a trailer, as well as the release date, for "Cat Person." The movie is based on Kristen Roupenians' 2017 short story of the same name that was published in The New Yorker, and features Emilia Jones from the Best Picture winner "Coda" having the hook-up from hell with Nicholas Braun, aka cousin Greg from "Succession." Bad hook-ups are common in the age of internet dating, sure, but in this case, things go from bad to downright scary.

Susanna Fogel directed the film, with Michelle Ashford ("Masters of Sex") penning the screenplay. The adaptation of the short story is due to hit theaters in October and figures to be a conversation starter as part of the fall moviegoing season. Let's roll the trailer.

After world premiering to much buzz at Sundance back in January, the darkly comedic dating thriller Cat Person has finally unveiled a first trailer and release date, having been set to open in U.S. theaters via Rialto Pictures beginning October 6th.

An adaptation of Kristen Roupenian’s viral New Yorker short story fully financed by Studiocanal, Cat Person looks at the brief relationship between 20-year-old college sophomore Margot (Coda‘s Emilia Jones) and the somewhat-older Robert (Succession‘s Nicholas Braun) from the perspective of both characters, as a means of commenting on the experience of dating today.

WandaVision, The Mandalorian and Loki are being released in 4K Uhd and Blu-ray later this year. This is the first time the Disney+ series’ will be getting the physical disc treatment.

Loki Season 1 will be released on September 26, while the limited series WandaVision will drop on November 28. The Mandalorian Season 1 and Season 2 will both be available on December 12. All four titles will be available to pre-order from August 28.

Bringing pitch-black comedy, tight drama, and Emmy-winning performances, Barry is a series unlike any other. Now, after a widely-acclaimed four seasons, the show has aired its final episode on Max.

“While it will be sad to not experience the incredible creative highs of Barry after this spring, it’s hard to feel too disappointed about a great show leaving on its own terms,” writes Rolling Stone‘s Alan Sepinwall...

Just before he confronts the gangsters who’ve abducted his family, Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) takes a moment in the parking lot. “Lord, I’m gonna die tonight. Please give me the strength to sacrifice myself so that my son can live a long and pious life,” he prays. “And that by doing this, all my sins will be washed and I will be redeemed in your eyes, and I will be able to sit next to you in my rightful place in the kingdom of heaven for all eternity. Amen.”

As it turns out, the encounter never actually comes to that. Barry’s barely out of the car when Fuches (Stephen Root) ushers Barry’s unharmed son John (Zachary Golinger) straight to him, then disappears into the night without a word. Hader‘s face registers less relief than disappointment. Dying for John would’ve been hard, but it would’ve been straightforward.

Hard though it may be to believe, there are just two episodes left in the HBO series "Barry," which used to lean more heavily on the comic side of things even amidst its dark setup. Now, though, it's pretty much all in on darkness. And with "a nice meal," the title belies a similar sense of grimness. Last week left off on quite the cliffhanger: Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) had come very close to his mission of returning to Los Angeles and killing his old acting teacher Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler) for potentially consulting on a biopic of his life, before being captured by Jim Moss (Robert Wisdom) and brought to his garage, where we know weaker men have barely withstood the terror of this grieving father/ex-cop. Oh, and Sally (Sarah Goldberg) is being beset upon by a mix of hallucinations and angry ex-co-workers as she fails to tend...

When last we left Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) and Sally Reed (Sarah Goldberg) on the HBO series "Barry," they were in great distress. (When has that ever not been true?) Barry and Sally have made a meager life for themselves and their son John (Zachary Golinger) in middle America for eight years, thanks to being in the FBI Witness Protection program after Barry revealed secrets of his time with the Chechen mob to get out of jail. They've reinvented themselves as Clark and Emily, a married couple that doesn't do much aside from home-schooling John, and working at a local diner. But Sally and Barry are both shocked to learn, via the Hollywood Reporter, that a) Warner Bros. is pursuing a biopic about Barry's life as a hitman/acting student and b) Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler) has come out of hiding after having shot his son Leo (Andrew Leeds) to purportedly consult on the film.

... Well then! If you've just watched tonight's episode of HBO's "Barry," entitled "it takes a psycho", then you know that for a show that is rarely screwing around, this episode really and truly did not screw around. If you haven't watched, just be warned (even more than usual) that surprises are plenty this week, so spoilers ahoy.

As you'll likely recall, last week's installment wrapped with Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) escaping prison thanks to a botched hit job (involving a hitman/podcaster played by Fred Armisen). So it's no surprise that this week starts in prison, as the grumpy warden (Richard Riehle) instigates a beatdown of Barry's old friend Monroe Fuches (Stephen Root), presuming the latter let the would-be assassins inside. Though Fuches did know about the attempt on Barry's life and tried to warn the now-infuriated guards, he of course has no idea where Barry might be at the moment.

Despite how dark and dramatic the show has progressively become "Barry" is a comedy series. The latest episode of season 4, "you're charming," featured a gag that the series has used before with very funny results.

Last season, Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler) helped put Barry (Bill Hader) behind bars with a sting operation. Despite a promise not to talk to the media, Gene couldn't resist the spotlight. In the previous episode, "bestest place on the earth," he dug his own grave by talking with Vanity Fair reporter Lon O'Neil (Patrick Fischler). Worse, Gene didn't settle for a simple interview -- he performed a one-man show recounting his entire relationship with Barry and forgot to request anonymity until after the performance was over.

In "you're charming," the Los Angeles D.A. tells Gene and his agent Tom (Fred Melamed) about Barry cutting a deal with the FBI for immunity.

Weird things happen on “Barry.” They always have. For all the talk about how the show has gotten darker with each passing season, part of that comes from how that weirdness gets woven into the fabric of the show. In the beginning, the oddities that popped up were almost novelties, things designed to distract from the fact that one man’s soul was being siphoned away with each passing job. “Ronny/Lily” was something to be unpacked, a mystery where you could still find a weird sense of cathartic comfort in Stephen Root shouting from behind the wheel of a car.

Over time, that morphed into something else. By last season’s “710N,” the wild, out-of-the-blue parts of “Barry” became more dangerous. A highway chase was not only the show tackling an action setpiece on a grander scale, it was a bigger threat. By the time Hank (Anthony Carrigan) finds...

Bill Hader is many things, especially a cinephile. When you watch "Barry," it's obvious that his influences lie in the films of the Coen Brothers, among others, but he's done videos for the Criterion Channel and spoken at length about the films and filmmakers he loves before. The third episode of the final season of "Barry," titled "you're charming," wastes little time at all — there's no cold open before the title card, and within a minute of the episode beginning, I think we can safely say we've learned a filmmaker Bill Hader must like an awful lot.

We don't have to wonder if Barry will be cancelled or renewed for a fifth season since it's already been announced that the HBO series ends with the current fourth season. However, reboots and spin-offs are very popular these days. Could some characters return someday in a fifth season of Barry or perhaps their own show? Stay tuned.

Season three of HBO’s critically acclaimed, Emmy Award-winning Barry ended with Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) under arrest. The teaser trailer for season four confirms that while Barry is, in fact, behind bars, he remains at the heart of the story.

Dropping the teaser trailer, HBO announced an April 16, 2023 premiere date. The network also announced season four will be the show’s final season, which means only eight new episodes remain to wrap up Barry’s story.

Season four’s first two episodes arrive on April 16th, with new episodes premiering on Sundays at 10pm Et/Pt. The series finale will air on May 28th.

The short story, published in The New Yorker during the winter of 2017, was met with almost vertiginous levels of fanfare and debate. On one side: applause for Roupenian’s blunt portrayal of 21st-century dating, which mirrored the confessional verve of a New York Magazine “Sex Diaries” column.
