In between shooting scenes for Eddie (1996) at the Charlotte Hornets stadium, 5'6" Ethan put a hook shot over a charging Vlade Divac and got nothing but net. Much laughter ensued.

His father, Albert Marten was responsible for the distribution of Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957).

Attended a press conference for Muhammad Ali in 1980 where California's Lieutenant Governor presented Ali the key to the city. Ali forgot the key, and Ethan found it when everyone was gone. Marten headed over to the capitol, and presented the key in Governor Gerry Brown's Office in front of Brown, Willie Brown Maxine Waters, and an amused press core. A good-natured Ali quipped, "I left it behind, because it wasn't real gold." The photographer who took the picture, Michael West, later won the Pulitzer Prize in news photography.

His father, Albert Marten, was responsible for bringing the completion bond to motion pictures. A motion picture completion guaranty is a written contract that guarantees a motion picture will be finished and delivered on schedule and within budget. The majority of films produced and fully financed by the major Hollywood studios are, in effect, self-guaranteed. However, most independently financed films, including many that are released and distributed by the major studios, require a completion guaranty.
