Despite his assigned role as the resident fat guy on Saturday Night Live, Chris Farley was a lot more than just a walking, talking, cartwheeling visual gag.
In the decades since Farley died of a drug overdose on December 18, 1997, the comedy legend’s contemporaries have had plenty of time to examine Farley’s oeuvre and come to their own conclusions about what his immaculate work on SNL meant for him as an artist and as a person. During Farley’s heyday in the 1990s, the greater comedy community still had a callous sense of humor when it came to performers of Farley’s size, and SNL cast members and writers from Farley’s era have since fiercely criticized the show for placing Farley in a compulsory position as the literal butt of the joke in sketches such as the enduringly popular but currently controversial “Chippendales Audition.”

Is Bad Boys II Michael Bay’s best-worst movie? Is it the most entertaining, so-bad-its-good mainstream action movie ever made?
If the definition of insanity is repeating the same thing and expecting different results, then one could argue Michael Bay is downright certifiable. After all, who announces their directorial debut with a movie as bold and brash as Bad Boys and proceeds to repeat, nay, magnify the same screenwriting mistakes in the critically panned sequel Bad Boys II? Then again, does it even matter? Despite being released eight years after the original, Bad Boys II may have been eviscerated by critics but proved to be bulletproof among the moviegoing masses. Instead of taking precise measures to tighten the story and bolster the witty banter between Miami Narcotics officers Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, Bay doubled down on the explosive action set-pieces and visceral chase sequences. The bet paid off so...

The distribution company Kino Lorber recently launched an interesting Blu-ray line called Kino Cult, and so far they have released the 1985 sci-fi Western Alien Outlaw, the Bettie Page double feature Teaserama and Varietease, the 1985 horror film The Dark Power, the 1974 drama Drifter, the 1974 Jess Franco horror film Lorna the Exorcist, the 1973 Jess Franco crime thriller Sinner: The Secret Diary of a Nymphomaniac, and the 1985 Clive Barker adaptation Underworld (a.k.a. Transmutations). Now our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that five more Kino Cult Blu-ray releases are set for August 20th, and there’s a theme to this batch: they’re all “nature run amok” horror movies! Most of them are movies I love to watch, too. Here’s the line-up: The Food of the Gods, Empire of the Ants, Frogs, Squirm, and Kingdom of the Spiders. Each one is available for pre-order on Amazon, and each of these...

When it comes to celebrities and those who live inside the gates of Hollywood, it would seem that the skeletons in their closets find a way out eventually. The mightiest fall the fastest and those who were known as the kindest, possess the most darkness. Unfortunately, very rarely is someone exempt from this, and Jim Carrey was not fortunate enough.
Jim Carrey
Carrey is a comedic icon, having revolutionized the genre and established himself as a talented actor in several genres. Despite this, there have been more than a few questionable moments in his career.

After watching Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber in 1994, fans of the film industry were convinced that Jim Carrey was the hottest new comedy genius in town. The actor is singlehandedly responsible for some of the most hilarious memories from a lot of people’s childhoods. It’s safe to say his personality, both on-screen and off-screen, revolutionized the comedy genre.
Jim Carrey in The Mask (1994)
However, lately, things haven’t been looking too good for Jim Carrey. After 2016, the actor has only been a part of three movies, courtesy of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. There was a time when he wanted to be just like Tom Hanks, who has managed to adapt so well with the ever-changing times in the film industry. Unfortunately, things didn’t quite work out like he had imagined they would.

There is a good chance Ace Ventura: Pet Detective will come up in conversation if you ask someone who is strolling their dog on the street about their favorite Jim Carrey flick. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective earned mixed reviews upon its initial release, so it is almost funny to see how beloved it has become among fans despite this fact. Nevertheless, the film remains a hilarious detective satire.
Reviewers and viewers alike had a major effect because of Carrey’s performance. Not only did it initiate the actor’s cinematic career, but it also initiated a franchise. Having said that, what if we told you that Carrey was not the first choice to play such an iconic character?

The original contender for the role is also a legendary figure in the comedy film industry, but his comedic sensibility is nothing like Carrey’s outrageous and wild improvisation.

NFL Legend Dan Marino has made a fortune from the sport but he missed a truly great opportunity to add a few bucks to his net worth. In the 1994 hit comedy film, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Marino played a small role as himself alongside Jim Carrey. The film went on to become a major box-office success and Marino’s involvement may have influenced this success. However, Marino took only a flat fee for the role instead of the more lucrative option of a percentage of the gross of the film.

The former Miami Dolphins quarterback even went on to jokingly claim that he built Jim Carrey’s career with the film and took full credit for it. Marino has one of the highest net worth among the NFL Hall of Famers, despite the Dolphins not taking home a single Super Bowl.

How big was the Taylor Swift effect on the Super Bowl? Her impact on viewership of CBS’s Super Bowl Lviii telecast will continue to be debated even after ratings for TV’s biggest event of the year come out.
But it’s undeniable that Swift — who jetted from Tokyo to Las Vegas to cheer on beau Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs in Sunday’s Super Bowl — has ratcheted up interest in the NFL and is responsible for recruiting a new cadre of fans to pro football.
Here’s a new data point on the Swift-ization of the NFL: 20% of 2024 Super Bowl viewers said they were rooting for the Chiefs because of Kelce’s relationship with the global superstar, according to a flash survey conducted by consumer research firm Numerator. The poll was taken after the Chiefs clinched a 25-22 overtime defeat of the San Francisco 49ers.

Scarlett Johansson is starring in a new Super Bowl commercial!
The 39-year-old actress stars in M&m’s commercial that aired during the 2024 Super Bowl on Sunday (February 11) alongside NFL legends Dan Marino, Terrell Owens and Bruce Smith.
The commercial pokes fun at the fact even though Dan, Terrell, and Bruce are considered NFL greats, they never won a Super Bowl similar to how Scarlett has never won an Oscar.
Keep reading to find out more…“Only Super Bowl winners get a ring, right? Wrong! M&m’s presents the Almost Champions: Ring of Comfort,” Dan says. “It’s actual science.”
Dan then goes on to explain what the rings are made of, saying, “First we took comforting, M&m’s peanut butter and compressed it into real diamonds.”
“Then we polish them with the sighs of those who almost won a Super Bowl,” Dan continues as Terrell and Bruce are seen breathing over the diamonds.

Michelob Ultra keeps on using the Super Bowl to take big swings in sports.
Soccer great Lionel Messi will show off fancy footwork in the Anheuser-Busch InBev beer’s latest Big Game commercial, which is slated to run during CBS’ broadcast of Super Bowl Lviii on Feb. 11. Last year, Michelob teamed up with Netflix to highlight “Full Swing,” a documentary series that follows a group of golfers across an entire PGA Tour season. In 2024, the emphasis is on football, of course, but not necessarily the American kind.
Soccer is “approaching, I believe, what is a golden era in the U.S.,” says Ricardo Marques, vice president of marketing for Michelob Ultra, during an interview. “There is a bigger play for us as a brand in the space of soccer and we could not make that happen without having the Goat himself be a part of that story.” He also sees...

In a Super Bowl spot that brings together the two biggest football stars in Miami history (and the star of the biggest “football” show on streaming), Michelob Ultra is betting that it will stand out in a crowded commercial, er, pitch.
The Anheuser-Busch brand has tapped Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi, Miami Dolphins legend Dan Marino and Ted Lasso principal Jason Sudeikis to star in the spot.
The ad begins with Messi ordering a Michelob Ultra from a bar, before joining a beach soccer game while he waits, with Sudeikis watching on: “Leo, we go way back,” he says. Messi then kicks the ball onto a yacht where Marino is standing, and the NFL hall-of-famer throws the ball back to the beach, where Messi scores a goal, and gets his beer.

Aaron Rodgers’ debut with the New York Jets lasted all of four snaps, but the veteran quarterback vows to return to the field next year.
The future Hall of Famer, who turns 40 in December, tore his Achilles tendon early in Sunday’s eventual Jets victory over the rival Buffalo Bills, costing the longtime Green Bay Packers veteran his 2023 season. He broke his silence with a social media post today, thanking “every person that has reached out” and noting: “The night is darkest before the dawn. And I shall rise yet again.”
“Thank you to every person that has reached out, called, texted, Dm’d, connected through a friend, etc. It has meant a ton to me, and I’ll try and get back to all of you soon,” Rodgers posted. “I’m completely heartbroken and moving through all of the emotions, but deeply touched and humbled by the support and love.

Like the chicken and the egg, it’s hard to know what came first for the new Adam Sandler-produced Netflix feature, The Out-Laws: Was it the title or the concept?
My gut would lean toward the former, so much does this watchable if forgettable crime comedy feel like an entire movie wrapped around a simple play on words. In case you somehow missed it, imagine for one second that your mysterious in-laws arrived in town on the brink of your wedding and turned out to be “out-laws.” Get it?
As silly as that sounds, the out-laws in question, played by Pierce Brosnan and Ellen Barkin, manage to carry the concept to a few fun places, mostly because their characters — a pair of bank robbers named Billy and Lilly — truly look like they don’t give a shit. Compared to their yoga-teaching daughter, Parker (Nina Dobrev), and her fiancé,...

Growing up in the UK in the '80s and '90s, Channel 4 was an exciting new alternative to the staid safe havens of our other three terrestrial channels. Not only did it offer daring and sometimes controversial content that the BBC and ITV wouldn't touch, it also gave an exotic taster of global sport to our screens. We were introduced to the delights of Mongolian Yak Polo and Irish hurling on "Trans World Sport," while "Gazetta Football Italia" brought us a sexy European version of soccer after the success of the World Cup in 1990.
Then there was coverage of American Football. Channel 4 hooked many British viewers with the sport in the year it went live in 1982. From that moment, NFL grew in popularity as an alternative to our hooligan-blighted national game. By the time I first tuned in to see what all the fuss was about, they were done with explaining the rules.

Earlier today marked the end of an era, as heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne has announced that he's ending his touring career for good. His underlying health issues have made it difficult for the Black Sabbath singer to go through with the demanding requirements that a tour requires. Thankfully, Osbourne hasn't ruled out making an appearance down the line if the circumstances are right, given that he claims that his vocals are in pretty good shape.
For all of the waves he made on stage, however, Osbourne could also be seen popping in a movie every now and then for a small cameo. A few notable examples would be "Moulin Rouge!," "Austin Powers: Goldmember," and "Ghostbusters: Answer the Call" (2016). In most of these cases, he's usually playing a variation on himself. He's become one of those faces that you could recognize almost instantly, due to his larger than life stature.

Sean "Diddy" Combs is many things: record label executive and entrepreneur, Grammy Award-winning artist and dance extraordinaire. We can add actor to that list too; he had movie roles, including in "Carlito's Way: Rise to Power" and the 2008 adaptation of "A Raisin in the Sun." But his breakout performance could've came in Oliver Stone's 1999 sports drama "Any Given Sunday."
In the movie, Al Pacino stars as Tony D'Amato, the head coach of a fictional professional football team who struggles to get his squad to the playoffs. One of his many challenges lies at the quarterback position. It's fair to say that certain aspects of the "Ace Ventura" movies don't play well at all nowadays; even at the time, the original film was called out for its rampant homophobia and transphobia. Putting the really problematic aspects (which we'll touch upon later) aside for a moment, let's not forget what an utterly unique force of nature Jim Carrey was when he burst onto our screens as Ace for the first time.
We hadn't really seen anything like it. Roger Ebert compared him to Jerry Lewis, but he was restrained by comparison. At his peak, Steve Martin did zany just about as well as anybody and Robin Williams was capable of leaving us breathless with his whirl of free-association improvisations, but they both seemed fully in control of what they were doing. Carrey, on the other hand, seemed so wildly out there, like a live-action cartoon character.

The Nintendo Entertainment System is the most important console in the history of home gaming. After the video game industry crash of 1983 and several years of arcade success, many still wondered whether video games still had a place in homes everywhere. Then, almost out of nowhere, Nintendo and the Nes rescued our favorite hobby from the abyss and put it on the fast track to becoming the cultural cornerstone we know it as today.
The main reason for the Nes’ massive success story was its enormous library of great titles. Many of Nintendo’s long-standing franchises got their starts on the Nes, and while some of the console’s games have aged better than others, all of them deserve our love and respect for helping reignite the industry and kicking off the fun that would ensue for decades to come.

‘American Underdog’ Trailer: Zachary Levi’s Kurt Warner Needs to Prove Himself to Rams Coach (Video)
In the first trailer for "American Underdog," Kurt Warner (played by Zachary Levi) is called into the office of St. Louis Rams coach Mike Martz and is grilled about why he should get the chance to be the team's starting quarterback.
"Go ahead then, tell me," Martz, as played by Chance Kelly, says. "Why a team worth $800 million and with the most complex offense ever built should put you in the driver's seat? You're too old to be a rookie, too green to be a pro. So why in the world would I give you this shot?"
"American Underdog" is a biopic about Warner and how he went from being a grocery store clerk to becoming a Super Bowl champion and Mvp. The trailer even shows Levi as Warner stocking shelves and looking fondly at a Wheaties box with a picture of Dan Marino on it. When a colleague asks...

A champion was crowned on Wednesday night’s Season 5 finale of “The Masked Singer.” The Piglet reigned supreme and took home the Golden Mask trophy after belting out a passionate rendition of “Faithfully” by Journey. When it came time to unmask the winner, 98 Degrees’ Nick Lachey was revealed as the talented farm animal. The Black Swan (Grammy winner JoJo) placed second and the Chameleon (rapper Wiz Khalifa) finished in third.
“I miss performing,” Nick told host Nick Cannon during his unmasked interview. “And that’s what this experience has done for me is remind me how much I love singing. How much I love music. I’ve had the best time going on this twisted, weird ride that is ‘The Masked Singer.’ My kids wanted me to do the show for so long. Daddy’s coming home with a little hardware!”

On “The Masked Singer” finale on May 26, the last three celebrities in the competition will perform one more time as the Black Swan, Chameleon and Piglet. At the end of the hour, one of them will be named the winner of season 5 of this hit reality series. We’ve rewatched every one of the 10 episodes that led up to this final one and are absolutely convinced that we know who is hiding inside these costumes. Keep reading if you dare for all of “The Masked Singer” spoilers for the season 5 finale, including the real name of the Piglet
Of the three finalists, the Piglet is the best all-around performer. He made it to the final three after wowing the four judges with his cover of “Bruises” by Lewis Capaldi on the May 19 semi-final. That wasn’t a surprise given how well he had done in his previous appearances. The Piglet...

The Piglet proved himself to be the most versatile performer on “The Masked Singer” with his appearance on last week’s quarterfinal. He started out singing opera before transitioning into “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder. This double play won over the four judges, who put the Piglet through to the May 19 semifinal. They are right about his talent and, among their many wrong guesses, they might finally be right about his real name.
We nailed his name the first time he sang back in Week 2 when he covered the Dan + Shay hit “Speechless.” Since then he has gone from strength to strength starting with “Good to Be Alive (Hallelujah)” by Andy Grammer in Week 4 followed by “7 Years” by Lukas Graham in Week 6, “The Pretender” by Foo Fighters in Week 7 and “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now”) by Phil Collins in Week 8. After nailing his cover of the Phil Collins classic “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now”) on the Week 8 episode, the Piglet heads into the May 12 quarterfinals as the frontrunner to win season 5 of “The Masked Singer.” We’ve been a fan of his since he made his debut in Week 2 with his version of the Dan + Shay hit “Speechless.”
We’ve been sure about the real name of the Piglet since that first appearance. We concur with the four judges that the Piglet got his start in a boy band. However we don’t think he is Lance Bass, Brian Littrell, Aj McLean or Kevin Richardson.
Each time he has performed since, we became even more convinced we were right with our guess about the Piglet’s true identity. We went back and watched all his performances including “Good to Be Alive (Hallelujah)” by Andy Grammer...

The Masked Singer is down to this season’s “Spicy Six,” and what a deep well of vocal talent is bubbling underneath those egregiously large costume heads! Dare I say that this season’s final six contestants are even stronger than Season 4’s highly impressive mix (which, if you’ve forgotten, was Tori Kelly, Aloe Blacc, LeAnn Rimes, Nick Carter, Taylor Dayne and Chloe Kim)?

[As you probably already know, starting on Thursday, August 21, Fxx is running the Every Simpsons Ever Marathon, running through all 552 episodes of "The Simpsons," plus "The Simpsons Movie." To aid in your viewing process, Team HitFix is selecting our favorite episodes from each day, plus an episode or two that you can skip and use as a bathroom or nap break.] When folks complain that "The Simpsons" hasn't been good for 15 years, we normally mock them, but as we hit Day 5 of FX's Every Simpsons Marathon, even we have to admit that there is a small shift in quality. There are still great episodes in this period, which goes from "The Canine Mutiny" through "Maximum Homerdrive," but a couple of our intrepid recommenders only took one episode apiece for this period. And we have a trio of "skippable" episodes at the end of the article. Expect the ratio of classic-to-skippable episodes to even out in the last week of the Marathon. And some of the episodes in this period are kinda polarizing. Dave Lewis made "Homer's Enemy" one of this recommendations (and I'd be inclined to agree), but Frank Grimes hater Alan Sepinwall would have written a counterpoint had he had the time. Everything we know about American football, we learned from watching American TV.
We might not know our Quarterbacks from our Tailback, our Vince Lombardi from our Dan Marino, our Seahawks from our Broncos - but thanks to years of watching telly, we do know you have to get the egg-shaped thing over the line.
Ahead of this weekend's Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos, we've put together our own starting 11.
The Gellers
They may have grown up as vicious rivals, competing for the Geller Cup, but if Ross and Monica combined on the same team, we're pretty sure they'd be unstoppable at all that ball catching and running and smashing into people stuff. Determination, grit and an unwillingness to give up, even in the worst conditions, means they are straight on our team sheet.

Drake contains multitudes. Just ask him — he’ll tell you so himself. On his third album, Nothing Was the Same, the rapper compares himself to Odb and Keith Sweat; to Dwight Howard, Serena Williams, and Dan Marino; to “Guy Pearce in Momento” and to Prince Akeem, the African potentate played by Eddie Murphy in Coming to America. Critics have greeted the new album with their own theories, holding up Drake as a millennial standard-bearer, as a newly beefed-up tough guy, as a misogynist “asshole,” as James Taylor, as Porgy from Porgy and Bess. To this list we may add several other Drakes: avenging geek, Jewish neurotic, noir-pop crooner, tortured family chronicler.Of course, the simplest answer to the question “Who is Drake?” — the answer that Drake himself wants you to give — is, simply, “Drake”: Aubrey Drake Graham, biracial Canadian child actor turned musician. “I'm authentic, real name, no gimmicks,...

You know that tiny murmur you hear that always keeps things from being completely silent, even when nothing around you is making any noise? Well apparently that miniscule sound is the clamoring for the toy line and cartoon Max Steel to finally get a feature film adaptation. And while Hollywood itself hasn.t listened, that doesn.t mean Mattel can.t just put this thing together itself. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they.ve enlisted Miami-based production company Dolphin Entertainment to fund the sci-fi-ish flick. Onboard to direct will be longtime Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino. Just kidding. The actual director, Stewart Hendler, doesn.t inspire a more exuberant reaction though. Not that the man himself is terrible, but I don.t even think Martin Scorsese could make a Max Steel movie exciting. The ‘Saturday Night Live’ writers didn’t pull any punches this week, as they came out swinging at Dan!
No celebrity is safe from Saturday Night Live — including Dan Marino! The former Miami Dolphins quarterback was the object of ridicule on the Feb. 9 episode, as the cold opening drudged up his recently revealed affair with former production assistant Donna Savattere.

“So, Dan, news came out this week that you fathered a child in an extramarital affair,” Kenan (as James) said.

Dan’s former mistress has finally been spotted in London, after hiding out since news of their affair and love child broke. Are you surprised she’s been trying to keep a low profile?

For the opening sketch during the Feb. 9 episode of "Saturday Night Live," the late-night comedy show took the opportunity to mock the Super Bowl power outage, which delayed the big game last weekend for over a half hour.
The "SNL" regulars were skewering the NFL broadcasters, who had to vamp for a pretty long time during the blackout. There wasn't much to discuss and there were only so many times they could throw to commercial.
In the spoof, the Dan Marino love child mention was pretty good, but Jay Pharaoh as Shannon Sharpe made the funniest quip when he said, "Ray Lewis knows who killed those people because it was him."
If that had actually happened during the real broadcast, that would have been amazing. But we aren't sure this sketch has anything on the funny tweets happening during the actual blackout.

11:29 -- We kick things off with a Super Bowl power outage opening sketch, with the "broadcasters" riffing during the blackout when they really don't have anything to talk about. Ummm ... if this is an indication of how funny the episode will be, we're in trouble. Bring on Bieber!
