Want a quality action film, but you only have an hour and a half? Step this way...
Looking back over the genre, action films definitely haven’t suffered from the trend to make everything longer. They’ve always been pretty long, regularly clocking in at over two hours. Perhaps because of all the slo-mo? But while the sweet spot for action classics seems to be the 100-110 minute mark, there are those that have cut the genre right down to basics, and succeeded all the more for it.
Below is my pick of 25 great action films 90 minutes or under. Even more so than other genres, action crosses many other films - picking a pure ‘action’ flick is all but impossible. So below I’ve chosen films that retain action sequences as their main narrative device, and keep the action at the heart of the movie, rather than as a extra.

There are few real-life figures more beloved in American cinema than Steven Spielberg. He’s earned that adoration without question, but his worship retards the dialogue around his work. Like his buddy Colonel G. Lucas, Spielberg is a brand first, a businessman second, and a filmmaker last.
It’s time to loosen up the conversation. Spielberg is less an auteur and more Hollywood’s greatest journeyman, a master craftsman whose natural talent allows him to tackle almost any material. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t common themes that run throughout his work. A lot of breath has been devoted to his sense of wonder and awe, his parent’s divorce, his love of children. But there’s a darker current to his work, one that appears less subtly in thrillers like The Conversation, Three Days of the Condor, and other conspiracy films of the New Hollywood era. It’s a sense of paranoia,...

Duel was one of Stephen Spielberg's first films, and it was an incredible start to what would would become an amazing filmmaking career. The movie was released November 11th, 1971, which is 43 years ago today. As a tribute to the intense car and truck chase movie, I've put together a list of 10 fun facts that you might not know.
There is a scene where the truck drives off a cliff, and there was a contraption built to keep the truck traveling in a straight line without a driver to make that scene happen. That contraption failed, and instead of stopping, the driver, who had something important to attend the next day, stayed in the driver's seat and jumped out at the very last second before the truck went over. He did this so he didn't have to reshoot the next day so he could attend whatever engagement he had planned.

Dennis Weaver utters these words in my favorite Steven Spielberg film, Duel, a production that was originally commissioned by Universal Pictures as an Mow, industry shorthand for “movie of the week”, which aired on Saturday, November 13, 1971. The reviews were glowing; the film’s admirers greatly outweighed its detractors and it put Mr. Spielberg, arguably the most phenomenally successful director in the history of the medium, on a path to a career that would make any contemporary director green with envy. Followed by a spate of contractually obligated television outings, Duel would prove to be the springboard that would catapult Mr. Spielberg into the realm that he was shooting for since his youth: that of feature film directing. Duel would also land him in the court of Hollywood producers David Brown and Richard Zanuck and get him his...

When we think of movie characters they are larger than life in human form. However, there is a tendency to connect a particular film or film’s mortal personality with something that registers beyond the piece of entertainment or the walking and talking characterizations. The realization is that some movie-related inanimate objects equal or surpass the human element in cinema while adding elements of mystery, curiosity, symbolism and imagination.
In The Top 10 Iconic Movie Objects let us take a look at some of the non-breathing items that made an impact in their perspective films and see what meaning these images brought to the table. Perhaps you have in mind your own treasured inanimate objects that come to mind that transcends your viewing pleasure during the screening of your favorite flicks?

Inanimate objects often wriggle their way into horror films. We’ve seen porcelain dolls slaughter naïve victims. We’ve seen video game characters decimate the unsuspecting. And, perhaps the most lifeless menace to brutalize fleeing victims, the evil vehicle.
Four wheels (in most cases) designed to do nothing but obliterate mankind. It’s a petrifying thought when you consider all the deranged drivers behind the wheel these days. Really, how many fatal road rage incidents occur on an annual basis?
And that’s precisely the reason that killer car movies are infinitely more frightening than any other pic focused in on insensible, pulseless antagonists. We know that cars, trucks and motorcycles (this one doesn’t earn mention in this particular article, but look into Rage, a really entertaining indie moto-flick) can lead to instantaneous expiration. We understand that, be it a legitimate malfunction, a drunken fool or a crazed driver behind the wheel,...

Everyone needs to begin somewhere. To become one of the most prolific members of any field it requires hard work, dedication, and a creative mind. The art of film is the perfect example of how challenging it is to be truly great. Based on his career there is little doubt that Steven Spielberg is one of the most elite directors of all time. Even he had to start from the bottom and work his way up. One of the first places he made a name for himself was the made for TV movie Duel. Though originally designed for television Duel was such a success it made limited theater runs in multiple countries including the United States. Revisiting it now years later it is easy to see why. Using a simple concept of a man fighting for survival on the open road against the forces of an ominous tractor-trailer gave Spielberg...

Tamela and David Mann reaffirmed their vows in front of loved ones in Dallas, Texas, on Apr. 20, Us Weekly can exclusively confirm. The gospel singer and the actor/comedian, both 46, were legally wed in 1988 but never had a proper ceremony. "When we got married 25 years ago, we didn't have enough money for a wedding," explains Tamela, whose pastor married the couple in his study. At the time, the "Take Me To The King!" singer even had to borrow a ring. This year, however, Tamela finally [...]...

Democracy is a flawed concept. Here are 50 films that the IMDb voters would unfairly have you believe are worth no more than 5.9/10…
Six out of ten isn’t a very good score, really. It’s barely over half marks. 60 per cent. It’s alright, but it’s not great. You wouldn’t be proud of getting six out of ten on most kinds of tests, would you? So you might assume that any film that scores under six stars out of ten on the IMDb isn’t very good – possibly even terrible.
But that’s not always the case. Averages don’t tell the whole story; anything that’s potentially controversial or divisive will end up with a score that suggests most people weren’t that bothered about it, since high and low scores will be averaged – and IMDb users often exaggerate their scores anyway, giving a film one star...
