- He loved Only Fools and Horses (1981) and the people in it and became quite emotional about his attachment to everyone. Although his character wasn't especially big, he was utterly committed to it because he just thought it was one of the funniest shows ever and he wanted to be a part of it.
- Died of a sudden heart-attack whilst on vacation with his family in Hawaii.
- Famed for his role of Mike, the landlord in the Nag's Head Pub, in the BBC Sitcom Only Fools and Horses (1981).
- Is buried in Teddington cemetery in Twickenham, S.W. London. The headstone features the twin masks of Comedy and Tragedy-the symbols of the acting profession.
- During Only Fools and Horses (1981), he used to plant a beer mat on his nose and say "Who threw that?".
