If you haven’t gotten around to watching the 2022 Scream sequel (the one simply called Scream) but still want to avoid Spoilers, you should turn away. Do not continue reading! But if you have already seen the movie or haven’t been avoiding spoilers, you probably know by now that Mikey Madison of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and this year’s critically acclaimed Anora was not only one of the film’s Ghostface-mask-wearing killers, but her character was even responsible for killing off the fan favorite character of Dewey Riley, played by David Arquette. Dewey survived (sometimes barely) four full Scream movies, but when he crossed paths with Mikey Madison in the fifth film, that was it for him. And in an interview with Collider, Madison has apologized for her character’s actions.

Peacock announced on Monday morning that the vampire horror comedy Abigail from Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will begin streaming exclusively on the platform beginning July 19.

Notching a worldwide gross of over $42 million upon its release in theaters in April, Abigail watches as a heist team is hired by a mysterious fixer to kidnap the daughter of a powerful underworld figure. They must guard the 12-year-old ballerina for one night to net a $50 million ransom. But as the captors start to dwindle one by one, they discover to their mounting terror that they’re locked inside an isolated mansion with no ordinary little girl.

Universal Pictures on Thursday announced release dates for three major genre titles, revealing at the same time that two of its most anticipated sequels will shift on the calendar.

Blumhouse’s thriller The Woman in the Yard has been set to open on Friday, March 28, 2025, with Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse’s Drop debuting on Friday, April 11, 2025 and Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 to scare up box office on Friday, December 5, 2025.

Meanwhile, Blumhouse’s The Black Phone 2 will shift from June 27, 2025 to Friday, October 17, 2025, with Blumhouse’s M3GAN 2.0 shifting from from May 16, 2025 into the June slot. All of the aforementioned will open wide.

A Universal Monsters project is coming our way from Radio Silence, the filmmaking team that previously brought Ready or Not, Scream (2022), and Scream VI to the screen. Universal has scheduled an April 19, 2024 theatrical release date for the film, which was once going by the title Dracula’s Daughter and now going by the less informative title of Abigail. With the release date swiftly approaching, a promo video in which cast member Kathryn Newton (Freaky) gives a tour of the set has arrived online, while co-star Dan Stevens – who can be seen in this weekend’s release Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire – has given an interview where he described Abigail as extreme and hilarious. Although her character, franchise heroine Sidney Prescott, was originally included in the script for Scream VI (watch it Here), Neve Campbell ended up passing on the offer to reprise the role for that film due to a pay dispute. Soon after the film was released, her Scream co-star Skeet Ulrich (who makes brief appearances in the 2022 Scream and Scream VI) said Campbell loved what they did with the latest sequel… but while doing a Q&a at the 2023 Monster-Mania Con, Campbell revealed that she only recently watched the film. It took her longer than we thought to see it, but her reaction was a positive one in the end.

Campbell told the Monster-Mania crowd (with thanks to Coming Soon for the transcription), “I hadn’t watched it until two weeks ago. It took me a minute, I don’t know why. I actually thought they did a really good job.

Complex lists the domestic box office for previous entries: “Scream 2 earned $101 million in 1997, Scream 3 made $89 million in 2000, Scream 4 pulled in just $38 million in 2011, and Scream (2022) ended its domestic run at $81.6 million.”

The Sidney character was originally part of the story written by Scream 2022 writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, but she had to be written out when Campbell passed on the project due to a pay dispute. If you’re wondering if Campbell is feeling any negativity about the Scream movie they made without her, her Scream co-star Skeet Ulrich – who returns for hallucinatory appearances in Scream 2022 and Scream VI – is here to assure you that she doesn’t. In fact, Ulrich said Campbell “loved” the new movie.

The slasher sequel Scream 6 is now in theatres (you can read our review Here), and if you’re in the Los Angeles area you also have the chance to visit the Scream VI Experience, an immersive exhibit that is built to look like the bodega where a standout scene in the film takes place. The Experience bodega is packed with Easter egg nods to previous Scream movies – and there is also museum of props and costumes from all of the Scream movies. Scream 6 is now in theatres (you can read our review at This Link), and ever since it was first announced that the movie was going to take place in New York City, fans have been jokingly referring to it as “Ghostface Takes Manhattan”, a nod to the 1989 slasher sequel Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. The Scream film franchise has gone on hiatus a couple times. The original idea was for the series to be a trilogy, so there was an eleven year gap between Scream 3 and Scream 4. When Scream 4 didn’t light the box office on fire, the franchise shifted over to television – but eleven years later, it went back to the big screen with the release of last year’s Scream. The Cinemark theatre chain is going all-out with their promos for the upcoming slasher sequel Scream 6, which is set to reach theatres in two weeks (as new art on the official Twitter account reminds us today), on March 10th. Cinemark theatres have been offering Ghostface plushies and Ghostface “beverage buddies”, as well as popcorn tubs that are shaped like the masked head of the Ghostface killer. Those popcorn tubs have proven to be so popular, Cinemark has now announced that they are accepting online pre-orders for Ghostface popcorn tubs from now until March 17th. In fact, according to Deadline the tracking numbers for the Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media release indicate that it’s going to have a franchise record opening weekend of 37 million at the domestic box office. The previous highest opening weekend for the franchise came back in 2000, when Scream 3 made 34.7 million at the domestic box office.
