If you haven’t gotten around to watching the 2022 Scream sequel (the one simply called Scream) but still want to avoid Spoilers, you should turn away. Do not continue reading! But if you have already seen the movie or haven’t been avoiding spoilers, you probably know by now that Mikey Madison of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and this year’s critically acclaimed Anora was not only one of the film’s Ghostface-mask-wearing killers, but her character was even responsible for killing off the fan favorite character of Dewey Riley, played by David Arquette. Dewey survived (sometimes barely) four full Scream movies, but when he crossed paths with Mikey Madison in the fifth film, that was it for him. And in an interview with Collider, Madison has apologized for her character’s actions.

Glenmaroon House hunches at the top of a long driveway, the severe angles of its walls and joints softened by climbing ivy and deepening twilight shadows. A bronze elk statue towers over the drive’s wet flagstones, antlers pointing to the treeline as though the creature was frozen as it fled the house’s open front doors, the darkness within. Much like the team of criminals at the center of Abigail, Universal Pictures’ upcoming horror movie, Den of Geek is invited to cross the threshold and spend (part of) the night inside to do a job.
Our stakes might not be as high as the tensions at play in Abigail, but rest assured that we will not make it to morning without getting a little bloody.

Radio Silence (V/H/S, Southbound, Scream, Scream VI) returns to the big screen with Universal horror movie Abigail in April, and the film’s MPA rating has arrived this week.
Releasing April 19, Abigail has been rated “R” for…
“Strong bloody violence and gore throughout, pervasive language and brief drug use.”
Watch the official trailer for Abigail below, which is a bloody blast. The Don’t Breathe-esque setup introduces a band of criminals who attempt to kidnap a seemingly innocent young girl. Of course, the little girl turns out to be a vampire – a ballerina vampire, to be specific.
The cast for this one is absolutely stacked with talent, and the killer premise looks to have been executed by Radio Silence in the most fun – and bloody – way possible. It channels the spirit of their pre-Scream horror hit Ready or Not, and it promises to be a gory good time.

Melissa Barrera reunites with her Scream and Scream VI directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett for Abigail, a twisted horror film about a vampire ballerina. In addition to Barrera, the cast includes Dan Stevens (Gaslit), Kathryn Newton (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania), William Catlett (Black Lightning), Kevin Durand (Resident Evil: Retribution), Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul), and Alisha Weir (Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical) as Abigail. A Universal Monsters project is coming our way from Radio Silence, the filmmaking team that previously brought Ready or Not, Scream (2022), and Scream VI to the screen. Universal has scheduled an April 19, 2024 theatrical release date for the film, which was once going by the title Dracula’s Daughter. Now it’s going by the less informative title of Abigail, and Universal has unveiled both a trailer and a poster for the film! You can watch the trailer in the embed above and take a look at the poster at the bottom of this article.
Radio Silence members Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directed the film, while the third member of the trio, Chad Villella, is a producer. Their Scream movie collaborators William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, and James Vanderbilt of Project X Entertainment are also producing the monster movie alongside their Ready or Not producer Tripp Vinson. Ron Lynch and Macdara Kelleher serve as executive producers.

Radio Silence’s new movie with Universal has made its title known, and it’s Abigail. The pic was always set to open on April 19, 2024.
Abigail stars Melissa Barrera, who is reteaming here with filmmakers Radio Silence after Scream VI, as well as late actor Angus Cloud, who died of an accidental, multiple drug overdose back in July.

The “Untitled Monster Thriller” from Radio Silence (V/H/S, Southbound, Scream, Scream VI) and Universal has officially been revealed this week, and it’s titled Abigail.
“Children can be such monsters” is the official tagline for the Radio Silence-directed Abigail, which is scheduled for release in theaters April 19. And the trailer has arrived today.

Although her character, franchise heroine Sidney Prescott, was originally included in the script for Scream VI (watch it Here), Neve Campbell ended up passing on the offer to reprise the role for that film due to a pay dispute. Soon after the film was released, her Scream co-star Skeet Ulrich (who makes brief appearances in the 2022 Scream and Scream VI) said Campbell loved what they did with the latest sequel… but while doing a Q&a at the 2023 Monster-Mania Con, Campbell revealed that she only recently watched the film. It took her longer than we thought to see it, but her reaction was a positive one in the end.
Campbell told the Monster-Mania crowd (with thanks to Coming Soon for the transcription), “I hadn’t watched it until two weeks ago. It took me a minute, I don’t know why. I actually thought they did a really good job.

Scream VI (read our review Here) received a DVD, Blu-ray, 4K Uhd, and 4K steelbook release earlier this week, and now Ghostface has teamed up with the Ring company, an Amazon-owned manufacturer of home security and smart home devices, for a video that promotes that physical media release – and, of course, Ring itself. "After comparing themselves for years to their much-younger pop star brother, ChaseDreams (Case Walker), who is now a full adult, and their talk-show host mother (Molly Shannon), who's now more powerful than she could have ever imagined, Brooke and Cary (Heléne Yorke and Drew Tarver) are finally standing on their own two feet -- fully "successful" in their own right," the logline teases.
"And yet, they somehow find themselves comparing themselves to new people once again?"

Two weeks ago, Scream VI (read our review Here) surpassed the worldwide box office total of last year’s Scream movie, leaving its $139 million haul in the dust. As of right now, Scream VI has pulled in $162,210,554 worldwide… and it has reached another milestone. Scream VI crossed the $100 million mark domestically this past weekend, and has now become the highest-grossing entry in the entire franchise at the domestic box office. Until now, the original Scream – released back in 1996 – had been sitting in the top spot with $103 million. Now Scream VI is at the top with $104,410,554 and counting. Complex lists the domestic box office for previous entries: “Scream 2 earned $101 million in 1997, Scream 3 made $89 million in 2000, Scream 4 pulled in just $38 million in 2011, and Scream (2022) ended its domestic run at $81.6 million.”

Last year, the Scream franchise returned the big screen after an eleven year absence – and last year’s Scream was such a hit, earning almost $139 million at the global box office on a budget of $24 million, that Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media quickly greenlit another sequel. Scream VI (read our review Here) had a slightly higher budget, in the range of $35 million, but it’s also turning out to be an even bigger box office success than its predecessor. Scream VI‘s global box office total currently stands at $139.2 million. In just over two weeks of release, it has surpassed Scream 2022’s box office. So don’t be surprised to hear a Scream 7 announcement any day now.

As fans of Scream know very well by now, Scream VI (read our review Here) is the first entry in the slasher franchise not to feature Neve Campbell as heroine Sidney Prescott. The Sidney character was originally part of the story written by Scream 2022 writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, but she had to be written out when Campbell passed on the project due to a pay dispute. If you’re wondering if Campbell is feeling any negativity about the Scream movie they made without her, her Scream co-star Skeet Ulrich – who returns for hallucinatory appearances in Scream 2022 and Scream VI – is here to assure you that she doesn’t. In fact, Ulrich said Campbell “loved” the new movie.
Speaking with People, Ulrich said he had talked to Campbell about Scream VI when they were both at a recent convention. He told them, “She loves it; she loves what we’ve done.

There’s no guarantee that we’re going to get a Scream 7, but since Scream VI (read our review Here) had the biggest opening weekend of any film in the Scream franchise and has already made over $75 million at the global box office, there’s a good chance it’s going to happen. Scream VI and Scream 2022 directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have said they’re hoping for more sequels, whether they’re involved with them or not, and also said they would try to get Neve Campbell and her character Sidney Prescott into another sequel if they are involved. Scream 6 is now in theatres (you can read our review at This Link), and ever since it was first announced that the movie was going to take place in New York City, fans have been jokingly referring to it as “Ghostface Takes Manhattan”, a nod to the 1989 slasher sequel Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. The Scream film franchise has gone on hiatus a couple times. The original idea was for the series to be a trilogy, so there was an eleven year gap between Scream 3 and Scream 4. When Scream 4 didn’t light the box office on fire, the franchise shifted over to television – but eleven years later, it went back to the big screen with the release of last year’s Scream. Now Scream 6 is set to reach theatres on March 10th, and the film’s directors are hoping to see Ghostface continue slashing up the screen for Scream 7 and beyond.
Speaking with Deadline at the film’s premiere, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett – the directors of both Scream 2022 and Scream 6 – said “We hope (there will be a Scream 7). We want to be watching Scream movies, whether we’re involved or not, for the rest of our lives.
