Blood And Black Lace – Limited Edition Uhd
The Christian Haute Couture fashion house is a home to models… and backstabbing… and blackmail… and drug deals… and Murder.
Having established a template for the giallo with The Girl Who Knew Too Much, Mario Bava set about cementing its rules with Blood and Black Lace. In doing so, he created one of the most influential films ever made – an Italian classic that would spearhead the giallo genre, provide a prototype for the slasher movie, and have a huge effect on filmmakers as diverse as Dario Argento and Martin Scorsese.
Newly restored from the original camera negative and presented here in its original uncut form, this all-new 4K Ultra HD...

The life of an Italian gangster makes for a heady stew of Catholic guilt and naked ambition, self-hatred and lust for power. Alessandro and Flavio Vivarini immerse us into this maelstrom of emotions, bringing in references from Christianity and Caravaggio, in their intense Mascagni’ Symphony | Inno all’Infamia (Hymn To Infamy) depicting the seedy underbelly of the Milanese underworld. Through floating widescreen frames, operatic music and poetic voiceover, the viewer is both entranced and repelled by violent men and the way they wield authority. With a great eye for authenticity, bravura editing and a sense that anything can happen, the latest chapter in their Mascagni’ Symphony pays a multilayered homage to the streets of their youth. Ahead of today’s premiere, we had the chance to chat with the brothers about personal inspiration, using heavy colour contrasts, researching the accounts of Judge Giovanni Falcone (himself murdered by the Sicilian mafia), and creating an ethereal,...

Lux Vide, the Italian producer behind Sky series Devils and the upcoming Leonardo, is rebooting the pirate story Sandokan and is launching a podcast unit.
The Luca Bernabei-led company plans to reimagine Emilio Salgari’s novels, on which a 1976 Sandokan TV series was based, for a modern audience. The story chronicles the adventures of a 19th-century pirate fighting against the colonial power of the Dutch and British empires in South East Asia.
Lux Vide plans to shoot next year and has cast Turkish actor Can Yaman (Daydream) as Sandokan and Italy’s Luca Argentero (Doc) as fellow pirate Yanez. Yaman is already limbering up for the role, according to an update on his Instagram, where he has nearly 8M followers.

Italian producer Grazia Volpi, best known for bringing many works by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani to the big and small screens, including their Berlin Golden Bear winner “Caesar Must Die,” has died.
Volpi was 79, according to Italian press reports. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Born in the Tuscan town of Pontedera, Volpi during the early 1960s started working as a production assistant in Rome, subsequently becoming a casting agent and line producer, and then setting up her own production company during the mid 1970s. She became a rare case of a woman producer in Italy’s male-dominated industry.
Volpi started working with the Taviani brothers in 1969 as a casting agent on the drama “Under The Sign of Scorpio,” their fourth work and the first feature they shot in color. The close rapport she forged with Italy’s prominent directorial duo is testified by a cameo she played...

Mario Bava turns from spooky gothic tales to a relentlessly violent murder spree in the glossy world of high fashion. The large cast gives us a fistful of prime suspects, while the main draw is Bava's powerful direction and razor-keen images - and in this excellent transfer, the colors can only be described as hallucinatory. Alessandro Prezioni is Detective De Luca.
Detective De Luca is an Italian crime-mystery television mini-series originally broadcast on Italy’s Rai 1 in the spring of 2008.
Based on the best-selling crime novels of Carlo Lucarelli, directed by Antonio Frazzi and starring the handsome Alessandro Prezioni, Detective De Luca is a portrait of an iconoclastic detective who ultimately solves his cases, though what he uncovers is a reality that’s often disturbing.
Set against the backdrop of Italy between 1938 and 1948, the titular Detective De Luca does the one thing he knows how to do: Be a cop. De Luca investigates and solves crimes in the war-torn city of Bologna and along the Adriatic coast with little or no regard for those in power, whoever they happen to be. His solitary and uncompromising character, his magnetic effect on women, and the fact that he...

March 19-21, Orvieto Italy - You think America is the only horror-loving country on the planet? Think again, Sparky. North of Rome in the city of Orvieto, Italians are gearing up for what promises to be one hell of a time. The annual Fantasy Horror Award celebration is a pretty big deal, and they're pulling out guests and celebs galore to prove it.
According to what I could gather from the site (because it's in Italian), fans will get to meet the stars and hang with luminaries in the horror genre as well as listen to musical performances and basically tear the town of Orvieto apart. The guest list reads like a who's who of horror: Dario Argento (if you don't know who this is, please kick yourself), Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Brian Yuzna (Reanimator), Federico Zampaglione (Nero Bifamiliare), Jaume Balaguerò ([Rec]), Doug Bradley (Hellraiser), Lamberto Bava (Demoni...
