The King of Malaysian comedy Douglas Lim is a multi-hyphenate entertainer who has dabbled in acting for television, theatre and film, stand-up, and lately, radio and humorous content creation. Douglas Lim is one of the funniest and most versatile Malaysian performers, having been an actor, stand-up comedian and sought-after emcee. He first gained prominence in the local entertainment scene as Steven the Stylist, a character in '90s hit sitcom Kopitiam.
Lim's acting credits span TV, cinema and theatre including movies 1957: Hati Malaya (2007) and Los dan Faun (2008); television shows Homecoming, Each Other and Spanar Jaya X (2019); and on stage, the musicals Lat Kampung Boy and Ola Bola: The Musical. In 2018, he appeared at The Public Theater in New York, with a critically acclaimed leading role in Malaysia's first off-Broadway production Thicker Than Water.
As a stand-up comedian, Lim organised and headlined one of Malaysia's most successful stand-up tours, featuring comedians from the Malaysian Association of Chinese Comedians, a group he co-founded. He also received rave reviews at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, which led to several return invitations to perform, including at the festival gala. When the pandemic put an indefinite pause on live shows, Lim turned to create content on social media, producing video parodies inspired by local events and political happenings which quickly went viral, earning him the title King of Parody from the Malaysia Book of Records.
In spite of the pandemic, Lim has kept busy. In addition to working with brands and companies to create content, he also became a radio personality on Fly FM, co-hosting the Douglas Lim & Juanita in the Morning (FlyFM Radio Breakfast Show) (2021). Lim has been married to Natasha Fernz, who is also his manager, since 2007.
