Wisconsin-born starlet who appeared in a few films for 20th Century Fox and Columbia in the 1930's, including three entries of the popular Charlie Chan series. She had previously acted on Broadway in "Green Grow the Lilacs". Her real-life adventures began after her acting career had concluded. At the onset of World War II, she broadcast from Paris for the 'Voice of America', was eventually arrested by the Nazis, escaped from a concentration camp and joined the French Resistance. In the course of three years, Leyton aided scores of downed American, Canadian and British pilots escape from German-occupied France, hiding others in her home until liberation. In 1946, she published her wartime experiences as "The House Near Paris".
