“What, are you dick weasels in a band or something?” Aaron Lee Tasjan definitively answers a bully’s taunting question in the inspired music video for “Horror of It All,” the first release off his upcoming fifth album, Stellar Evolution.
Directed by Curtis Wayne Millard, the video is an Eighties time warp, full of grainy VHS effects, bright neon, and more than a few references to Teen Wolf (the 1985 Michael J. Fox O.G.). Tasjan even does his best “king of the urban surfin’” bit, miming a sure-footed ride atop...

This Veterans Day, we’re celebrating the importance of Veterans as storytellers. Film Independent is inviting 100 U.S. Military Veteran (working or aspiring) filmmakers or actors in the entertainment industry to receive a Film Independent Membership, for a contribution of just $1.00!
Veterans Day is a federal public holiday that always falls on the 11th of November – but why is that? The day’s origins date back to World War I. At 11:00 am Paris local time on November 11, 1918, the Armistice of Compiègne was signed to officially end WWI. In honor of this special day, we’ve curated 10 films (and one limited series!) that embody the values and spirit of the service members across all five branches: the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy.
Patton (1970)
Branch: U.S. Army
Director: Franklin J. Schaffner
Cast: George C. Scott, Karl Malden, Stephen Young, Michael Strong, Carey Loftin

Movies which centre their stories on competitive sports will always find an eager audience at the cinema. They are often filled with drama, heart-stopping action, and perfectly capture the ever swinging emotional pendulum of hope and fear.
And whether the sports are played in a high school gym or a stadium filled with thousands and millions more watching on at home, the conflict and fortitude necessary to win against the odds will always resonate with us. This is exactly what excites sports fans too, with the online sports betting community at an all-time high with NBA odds being constantly updated.
Here we celebrate the some inspirational Basketball movies.
Hoop Dreams
Few documentaries have captured the rawness of hope better than Steve James and Frederick Marx’s Hoop Dreams. Originally planned as a half hour PBS special on two African-American Chicago high schoolers as they chase their dreams of playing professional basketball,...

Not all teenage werewolf movies are created equal.
As a kid, I couldn’t have been more primed to see 1985’s Teen Wolf, a movie that seemed positively made just for me. I was obsessed with star Michael J. Fox, first from his TV work as Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties and then as Marty McFly in Back to the Future, to this day my favorite movie of all time. Werewolves have always been my movie monster of choice, even as a boy of just eight years old. Combining Michael J. Fox with werewolves—in a high school comedy, no less, then (and possibly still) one of my favorite film genres—seemed a foolproof recipe for a classic. And, in its way, Teen Wolf is a classic: a movie that’s probably as good as it can be while still being far from great. It’s sweet, it means well,...

It is not often that I get to offer you something special of my own here at HitFix. That's not to say I am not personally invested in my writing here. Of course I am. I think over the last five or six years, I've turned a corner in terms of my own understanding of what film criticism can be, and for me, it works on a very personal level. But when it comes to my creative work, there's not a lot of it that I've been able to share in a finished form. I could publish my scripts, I suppose, as long as my co-writer Scott Swan agreed, but a script is a suggestion of what a movie will eventually be, not the movie itself. When I wrote about my quarter-century here in La, I wrote about the production of our play, "Sticks and Stones," at the Met Theater in La.

A few years back, Nina Tassler attended a barbecue fundraiser with her husband, actor-director Jerry Levine. A famous basketball player — she won't say who — was escorted to her table and told he was about to meet the head of CBS Entertainment. "He stuck out his arm to shake my husband's hand," recalls Tassler. So, yes, there is indeed a "woman problem" in Hollywood. But at a time when much of the town is wringing

Like all superheroes (or anyone else who uses a secret identity), there came a moment when someone finally cracked the code and published my real name. To be fair, my identity was a pretty poorly-kept secret by that point. The first time I went to an actual press event, I used my real name, and anytime I met someone, I used my real name. "Moriarty" was a fun identity to slip into, and especially in the early days of the site, we played up the mythology of things. My friends all got their own spy names and would show up in the reports in the form of Henchman Mongo and Segue Zagnut and Harry Lime and more. From my end, it was silly and fun, and not something to be taken seriously. But when Film Threat ran a fairly vicious hit piece on Harry, I was also a target, and...

The first and most important thing that happened as a result of the staging of "Sticks and Stones" at the Met Theater as part of the Act One Festival was that Scott Swan and I got our first agent. Barbara Baruch worked for Ambrosio/Mortimer, a smaller boutique agency at the time, and from the moment we met her, she seemed like what I imagined an agent to be. She was nurturing, she was a cheerleader, she was a ballbuster, and she was always, always, always in our corner. Our time with her was unfortunately too short, and by the time the agency imploded in accusations of embezzlement, we were already repped by Gersh out of New York. Barbara was first, though, and she was the first one to start pushing people to come see our show and to read our work. The strangest thing about those early days is...

Yesterday, I wrote about my first year in Los Angeles, which was all just a matter of settling in. Remember, when I moved to La, I knew a grand total of zero people who lived or worked here. I was not laden with contacts and strolling into a situation where everything was guaranteed to work out. Scott Swan and I took a huge chance when we packed up and moved out, and I am so horrified by how little money we had saved that I'm almost embarrassed to say the number. I was insanely naive when I arrived in town. I am still haunted by a choice we made in those early days, when we answered an ad in one of the trades that was looking for writers willing to work on a "per sketch" basis. I forget how much the rate was… $100 or so, but definitely not more than that…...

Elementary, Season 2: Episode 11 – “Internal Audit”
Written by Bob Goodman
Directed by Jerry Levine
Returns January 2nd
Ever since the second season premiere, I’ve been singing the praises of the inclusion of Rhys Ifans on Elementary and the general attention to the serialization – the “mythology” episodes, a phrase borrowed from The X-Files. Although I would have liked to have seen a bigger episode than we got in “Internal Audit” before the series goes on winter break, it’s actually an interesting example of how Elementary has the ability to create the feeling of serialization without relying on characters like Mycroft and Irene Adler. These last three episodes have really sunk their teeth into judging Sherlock for the kind of person he is. The most important part of that judgment is that it’s been as objective as possible, without outright condemning Holmes for his cockiness to the point of...

Elementary, Season 2: Episode 2 – “Solve for X”
Written by Jeffrey Paul King
Directed by Jerry Levine
Airs Thursdays at 10pm Et on CBS
After last week’s season two premiere, which was very much Sherlock-heavy, “Solve for X” brings Elementary back to its week-to-week procedural proceedings with an episode that gives Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) all of the character-based material. Over the course of its first season, Elementary did a lot of this type of stuff, where we saw the relationship between Sherlock and Watson advance in small steps with one or both being given emotionally interesting moments. So, in that sense, “Solve for X” isn’t all that interesting as an individual episode in the collection of Elementary episodes that currently exist. That said, it’s still a strong example of what exactly this series is and, if a first-time viewer happened to tune in, it still behooves fans...

Elementary Season 1, Episode 18: “Déjà Vu All Over Again”
Written by Mark Rodenbeck
Directed by Jerry Levine
Airs Thursdays at 10pm (Et) on CBS
Like most great partnerships, it all starts with a flashback – during a seemingly normal evening, Watson gets a call to become the sober companion to a person with a weird name. The next minute, she is trying to hot-wire an expensive car only to struggle with the wires. All in a day’s work and a certainly more interesting way to begin an Elementary episode.
Once again, we see the spotlight on Lucy Liu’s Watson, as her character’s reluctance in being a ‘consulting detective’ and forgotten evenings with friends show a visible personality change. Compared to the cold opening where she is in the middle of her social circle, the situation is flipped as her friends choose to ‘intervene’ with her latest yet seemingly outrageous career change,...

Michael J Fox, lycanthropy and basketball clash in the amusing 80s teen comedy, Teen Wolf. Jeff takes a look back…
Delightfully mediocre is a term that applies to the original Teen Wolf, the less ambitious of two Michael J Fox films released in 1985. Ostensibly an upbeat, John Hughes-esque take on fare like I Was A Teenage Werewolf (perhaps in name only), Teen Wolf only wishes to please, having neither bark nor bite. Still, this eager puppy of a teen flick does a more than a few tricks well, and remains spritely and cuddly after all this time.
Fox plays Scott Howard, an only child living with his father (James Hampton in a quiet, understated performance). Scott has two best friends, the exuberant and at times overbearing Rupert ‘Stiles’ Stilinksi (Jerry Levine), and literal girl-next-door ‘Boof,’ played to wholesome perfection by Susan Ursitti.
His biggest problem is the lack of a maternal figure,...

[Warning: If you've yet to watch Tuesday's jaw-dropping installment of The CW's Ringer, avert your eyes...now!]
Something major happened in the final seconds of this week’s Ringer, and while our attention is certainly focused on the parties seemingly involved in the kerfuffle, we’re mostly interested in where this latest turn of events leaves friend of TVLine, Kris Polaha, and his (possibly) misunderstood Upper East Side yuppie, Henry.
Here, we talk to the actor about whether or not he whacked his onscreen wife (played by Tara Summers), the long road ahead for Henry, and how he fits into the Ringer world moving forward.

For his first starring role, Dylan O'Brien was faced with a challenge: reinvent a classic character from an iconic film.
The 20-year old actor stars on MTV's Teen Wolf as Stan Stilinsky, the lovable student made famous in the 1985 movie by Jerry Levine.
O'Brien told me this week he had never seen the Michael J. Fox comedy, but the cast had a viewing party after shooting the pilot and it changed the way he looked at the role.
"I didn't just wanna regurgitate Stiles," the actor said. "I wanted him to have my own feel, especially because he was written so differently and so uniquely for the show. So much of this is reinventing Stiles for this generation.
"But [watching the movie] influenced the way I played Stiles in the sense that he had this unconventional cool factor; he was the weird cool kid. That's the entire essence of the character."

The Flick:
Teen Wolf is one of those flicks that appeals to nostalgia junkies (myself included), but will probably fall flat when it comes to younger audiences. It’s a movie that captures a moment in time that we don’t see in cinemas anymore; a b-grade picture that took the time to be more than just average.
The story is a simple one. Scott Howard (Michael J. Fox) is a teenager with problems. He’s not very good at sports, he doesn’t fare well with the ladies, and he happens to be a werewolf. Of course the werewolf side of the story is a simple metaphor for puberty, and at its heart Teen Wolf is a simple coming-of-age story. Once Scott realizes he has been afflicted with the family curse his life drastically changes. He is now great at sports, popular, and one of the hottest girls in school is interested in him.

Considering "The O.C.'s" Seth Cohen and "Buffy's" Xander Harris are our favorite TV sidekicks of all-time, it shouldn't come as much of surprise that our favorite character on MTV's "Teen Wolf" is Dylan O'Brien's Stiles.
O'Brien has managed to take a pretty iconic role (Jerry Levine's van surfing Stiles stole the original movie) and make it his own -- His Stiles is witty, smart and the coolest "uncool" kid in school. Think of him as MTV's very own Seth Cohen. Jackson (Colton Haynes) may get the girl, but at least Stiles gets the best lines.
Zap2it chatted with O'Brien about tonight's (June 13) episode, where Scott (Tyler Posey) must deal with two very important problems -- his first possible kill and his first date with Allison (Crystal Reed).
"Scott's starting to have to cope with the fact that he's very dangerous and could actually kill people.

I don't blame MTV for trying to cash in on the current vampire and werewolf craze, considering its audience is the same that gives Twilight every award known to man at every MTV Movie Awards.
Basing the new series loosely on famous 1985 movie Teen Wolf seemed like a good way to gain an entirely new audience, as fans of the Michael J. Fox film might give it a shot.
Although I was born in the year the original movie came out, I have seen the Wolf perform his patented two-handed block and tomahawk slam more than enough times to call myself a fan. But aside from a couple of general ideas, mainly a few character names and the fact that Scott is both a teenager and a werewolf, the new MTV series does not have much in common with the film on which it's supposedly based.
In no way is that a negative,...

Prepare to meet your new guilty pleasure.
MTV's highly anticipated "Teen Wolf" reboot premieres Sunday, June 5, after the MTV Movie Awards and we were lucky enough to snag some time with most of the show's main cast -- Tyler Posey, Crystal Reed, Tyler Hoechlin, Holland Roden and Dylan O'Brien (hm... or is it Colton Haynes?) -- to chat about their characters, comparisons to "The Vampire Diaries" and a flashy extra from the original '80s flick.
"He's this crazy outcast kid and he's tired of being an outcast," Posey says while describing his character, Scott McCall. "I call him the cool kid that was never accepted in the cool crowd. He gets bitten by a werewolf and his whole life changes."
Hoechlin plays Derek, the werewolf responsible for turning Scott. "You don't know too much about him and it kind of stays that way for a little while," he says.

What if there had been no Back to the Future? What if, in 1985, Michael J. Fox, the little known young actor, stars in Teen Wolf to mostly critical derision. The film flops, Michael J. Fox recedes into obscurity, and his potential as a leading man is never recognized. But that’s the premise of a Back to the Future parody, maybe on Robot Chicken. Instead, Teen Wolf came out a month later than Back to the Future, which was still the number one film in America, and became a hit despite itself. You might well have seen it sometime on Comedy Central in the middle of the day.
Ah the teen comedy--sweet teen comedy--the sweet nougat center of 1980s Hollywood. The only problem with the teen comedy (hahaha, only problem) is that it just doesn’t have that many variants. But Teen Wolf may well be the only horror-fantasy-sports-teen comedy.

I came to a startling conclusion will watching the 1985 cult classic Teen Wolf on Blu-ray this week. Not that Scott Howard’s friend in the movie is actually named “Boof,” and not “Booth” as I originally thought for over 25 years, but that Teen Wolf stinks. While fans can argue the film’s impact on pop culture all they want, viewing Teen Wolf through the eyes of an adult (mine) is more chore than fun.
Based on a sad script by Joseph Loeb and Matthew Weisman –stuffed with too many eye-rolling moments and flat jokes, Teen Wolf joins the ’80s other “good as a kid, bad as an adult” arch-pantheon of schlock like Knight Rider, Fraggle Rock and M.A.S.K. But not Snorks. That stuff is golden.

Teen Wolf is, rightfully so, a film cherished by many of my generation. It's not a great film, but god damn it, it's a fun film. There are quite a few very funny bits in the film, Stiles simply rules, and Teen Wolf's coach still has one of my all time favorite pieces of advice:
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.
And so, ever since Dustin did some voodoo shit to bring the "Teen Wolf" reboot to reality, we've known MTV's new series was going to be bad. They told us it was going to be a horror series,...
