At long last, it seems like Broken Lizard is getting the gang back together for another round of cop-related shenanigans. That's right! After much discussion in recent years, it seems that "Super Troopers 3" is coming together. While a formal announcement hasn't been made, writer/director Jay Chandrasekhar has revealed that the project is in active discussions at Disney and appears to be close to getting approval. In short, unless something derails it, it's happening.

During a recent appearance on the "Holmberg's Morning Sickness" radio show, Chandrasekhar revealed that, despite Disney's $71.3 billion purchase of Fox in 2019, "Super Troopers 3" is still very much alive. It was previously revealed during San Diego Comic-Con in 2018 that the sequel will be titled "Winter Soldiers," and whether or not that's still the case remains to be seen. The Super Troopers gang is back on the road – well, actually it’s a distillery, with the original lawmen getting back together to promote WhistlePig’s maple syrup in a throwback to one of the great scenes in the 2001 Broken Lizard comedy.

In the ad, we see Super Trooper star Erik Stolhanske (Trooper “Rabbit”) slugging a bottle of WhistlePig barrel-aged maple syrup, to which Steve Lemme (Trooper “Mac”) coaching him to relax and open his jaw, further prompting Jay Chandrasekhar (Lieutenant “Thorny”) to tell him, “You’re doing it wrong.” Rabbit’s reply? “What are you talking about? Chugging maple syrup’s kind of our thing!”

There will be no Season 5 for Tacoma Fd. TruTV has canceled the comedy, its last remaining scripted series, after four seasons, Deadline has confirmed.

The Season 4 finale, which aired in October, will now serve as the series finale.

Starring and created by Super Troopers‘ Kevin Heffernan (Fire Chief Terry McConky) and Steve Lemme (Captain Eddie Pinisi), Tacoma Fd was set in a firehouse in one of America’s rainiest cities, where firefighters kept themselves entertained with creative competitions, friendly first responder rivalries and bizarre emergency calls.

Comedy series “Tacoma Fd” has been canceled at TruTV after four seasons, Variety has confirmed.

The series originally debuted on the basic cabler back in 2019. The show was part of the network’s push into original scripted series, alongside other shows like “At Home With Amy Sedaris,” “I’m Sorry,” and “Bobcat Goldthwait’s Misfits & Monsters.” However, TruTV’s original programming lineup has been winnowed down to virtually nothing in the past few years, with the only original series still on the network being the hidden camera show “Impractical Jokers.”

Likewise, fellow TNets like TBS and TNT — all of which fall under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella — have gone from notable rosters of scripted shows to having none. Most recently, the TBS comedy series “Miracle Workers” was canceled after four seasons. That show featured a cast that included Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi.

It’s been nearly two years since truTV’s Tacoma Fd season three ended, and about the same amount of time since the network announced the comedy had been renewed for season four. Now, finally, we have a confirmed premiere date for the new season along with an official trailer teasing the show’s return.

truTV will be launching season four on July 20, 2023, with new episodes arriving on Tuesdays at 10pm Et/Pt.

Whenever people whine about movies that "couldn't be made today," they're usually referring to comedy films with a grossly outdated sense of humor or storylines that are blatantly discriminatory. Seldom are they referring to the truly ridiculous swings of comedy films made from the 1970s-1990s, a style that has mostly dissolved into our collective memories and only reappears when some brave soul makes an absurd laugh riot like "Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar."

The sad result of every blockbuster franchise slowly attempting to push us into a nostalgia-mad monoculture has been a lack of weirdo cinema. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of folks out there making unique films, but they're typically released independently and without the marketing budget or publicity they deserve. This makes greenlighting offbeat comedies a risky move for studios and denies audiences fresh, experimental comedy adventures. The Broken Lizard comedy troupe...

A colleague of mine, Marc Edward Heuck, once compared the films of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe to 7-Eleven hot dogs. The comparison was meant to be favorable. In both cases, the thinking went, the artisans in question know full well that they are not offering haute cuisine. Instead, the consumer is getting something efficiently constructed, barely flavorful enough, and perfect for a night when the edibles hit a little harder than expected. Broken Lizard's films have never elevated beyond the realm of raunchy, frat boy-style chuckle-fests, but have possessed just enough zingers, oddball gags, and precision-strike profanity to entrench themselves in the friendly cult trench inside the human brain. They possess an affable, thrown-off quality that makes them weirdly appealing, even as the jokes periodically fall flat.

Not to be confused with an adaptation of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” comedy troupe Broken Lizard’s “Quasi” tells a story that’s truer to the Oxford definition of its title than the 1831 Victor Hugo novel that inspired it. Kevin Heffernan settles uneasily into the director’s seat usually occupied by colleague Jay Chandrasekhar for an underdog story more interested in leveraging funny pronunciations of French words for underwhelming laughs than in creating real characters — much less a visual backdrop that doesn’t look like a second-rate Renaissance Faire.

The "Monty Python" film series is something of a legend in and of itself. The franchise is utterly beloved by comedy enthusiasts, and though we've had a lot of great comedic groups come together to make films since — The Lonely Island, anyone? — none have had quite the same spark as those English comics. The stars of All Elite Wrestling (Aew) are getting their own awards show.

It was announced Wednesday that Aew and TNT were partnering to launch the first ever “Aew Dynamite Awards,” which will air live exclusively on the Bleacher Report app on Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. Et.

Starting today, fans can vote for their favorites in a variety of categories by visiting AEWAwards.com. Presenters will include Shaquille O’Neal, Bert Kreischer, Chael Sonnen, Curtis Granderson, Camille Kostek, Kevin Hefferman, Steve Lemme, Ron Funches, Danielle Fishel Karp and Jensen Karp.

In today’s TV news roundup, ABC is set to air a special episode of “The Bachelorette” on Nov. 5, and Shudder revealed that new cast members, including Marilyn Manson, have been brought onto season 2 of “Creepshow.”

ABC revealed that a special episode of “The Bachelorette” will air on Nov. 5, with Clare Crawley and Dale Moss embarking on a date before Clare makes a decision never-before made on the show. The show usually airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m., but next Tuesday is election night, so the episode is being shifted in the schedule. Musical artists Chris and Bri, the duo who won “Listen to Your Heart,” will appear during the episode, serenading Clare on her date.

TruTV has ordered 10 episodes of Fast Foodies, a cooking competition series with Top Chef winners Kristen Kish and Jeremy Ford and Iron Chef winner Justin Sutherland who attempt to recreate a celebrity guest’s favorite fast food item.

Celebrity guests including Joel McHale, James Van Der Beek, Andy Richter and Amanda Seales challenge the chefs with double burgers, Hawaiian pizza, sausage muffins and other fast food favorites, all to win the “Chompionship Trophy.” Also guesting will be Ron Funches, Charlotte McKinney, Kevin Heffernan & Steve Lemme, Fortune Feimster, GaTa and Bobby Lee.

TruTV has renewed comedy series “Tacoma Fd” for a 13-episode third season. The series follows members of a fire department in a city where it often rains, rendering their job somewhat uneventful. To pass the time, the department engages in competitions and rivalries and responds to strange emergency calls. The show’s creators, Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme, also star as the chief and captain of the department, respectively. The two actors also executive produce “Tacoma Fd” with David Miner and Greg Walter.

We spoke with the cast of Tacoma Fd at Nycc about how they craft their comedy and what to expect in the show’s second season.

For over a decade the Broken Lizard comedy troupe has been creating inventive comedies that have resonated with audiences. Their talents have typically been reserved for feature films, but the group has found new ground with their television show, Tacoma Fd. The TruTV comedy series looks at a ragtag group of firefighters and conjures the same infectious, affable energy that fuels their movies. At first glance the show may just look like a minor pivot away from the antics of Super Troopers, but there’s a real heart to Tacoma Fd that helps ground the outlandish exploits of this fire department.

We caught up with Broken Lizard’s Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme and discuss what’s ahead for their feature film slate.

Steve Lemme and Kevin Heffernan of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe have forged a strong name for themselves in the comedy world. The collective started as a NYC-based sketch group, but slowly parlayed their talents to the big screen. Many people still regard Broken Lizard’s Super Troopers to be their strongest feature, but over the years they’ve put out a number of memorable, irreverent comedies like Beerfest and Club Dread. Lemme and Heffernan’s latest efforts have taken them over to television with TruTV’s Tacoma Fd. The hilarious firefighter series is well in production on their second season, but just because they’ve found success on TV doesn’t mean that they’ve turned their backs on cinema. Quite the contrary.

TV fans attending New York Comic Con this fall will get to enjoy several treats, most notably a screening of HBO’s highly anticipated Watchmen adaptation.

Other highlights slated for the con, taking placing Oct. 3-6, include an Angel cast reunion and an Outlander panel, as well as first looks at the upcoming seasons of Castle Rock and Marvel’s Runaways. Three Nycc-friendly CW shows will also be in attendance: Riverdale, Roswell, New Mexico and Batwoman.

New York Comic Con (Nycc), running from Oct. 3-6 out of New York’s Javits Convention Center, will have TV fans covered with a wide array of sneak-peeks, screenings and exciting cast panels for today’s most popular shows. Raunchy animated comedy “Big Mouth” from Netflix will kick off the long weekend with a teaser of its forthcoming third season, followed by a panel with series co-creator and voice actor Nick Kroll, among other cast members. The week-long event will also feature the premiere of the fifth season of Starz’s “Outlander,” exclusive sneak-peeks of the upcoming season of TBS’ “Snowpiercer” and a special panel from “Full Frontal” star Samantha Bee as she teases her forthcoming special “Election: 2020.”

Turner’s TBS, TNT and truTV have set their lineups for next month’s New York Comic Con, with panels featuring the likes of All Elite Wrestling and Chris Jericho, an exclusive sneak peek of the upcoming TNT sci-fi series Snowpiercer, and Samantha Bee previewing her next Full Frontal special “Election 2020.”

The lineup also includes truTV’s Impractical Jokers and its stars, who will be joined by Jameela Jamil to talk about TBS’ new game show The Misery Index, which she hosts. It bows on the network October 22. Another truTV series will hit the annual confab: the Broken Lizard-fronted Tacoma Fd, which was renewed for a second season in June.
