During his stint playing Commander William Riker on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," Jonathan Frakes (seen above left) underwent a rudimentary director's boot camp. Frakes was interested in directing episodes of the show, and the producers said he would only be allowed to do so after shadowing other directors for 300 hours. Frakes put in his due diligence, and he ended up directing eight episodes of the series. The producers were so impressed that they also hired Frakes to direct two of the "Star Trek" feature films.
His directorial experience on "Next Generation," he found, could be parlayed into other directing gigs. For one, he remained with the "Star Trek" franchise for decades, coming back to helm episodes of "Deep Space Nine," "Voyager," "Discovery," "Strange New Worlds," and "Picard." He directed the family friend sci-fi adventure film "Clockstoppers" in 2002 and "Thunderbirds" in 2004, eventually moving exclusively into television, overseeing episodes of "Leverage,...

The following article contains mention of self-harm and suicide.
Warning: Spoilers ahead for the American Sports Story season 1!American Sports Story star Josh Rivera and showrunner Stu Zicherman have explained Aaron Hernandez's final monologue during the ending of the series. American Sports Story ends much differently than Hernandez's real-life story, with the football player (Rivera) having a hallucinatory conversation with his father (Vincent Laresca) in his final moments. This is a far cry from his more tragic, real-world suicide, wherein the former Patriot painted images on his cell wall in blood and left behind references to the Illuminati. The TV series imagines a more tender ending that explores his humanity more thoroughly.
Speaking with TheWrap about the ending, Rivera explained how the changes made in American Sports Story reflected Hernandez's identity beyond his crimes, laying out who he was in his final moments. Zicherman added the moment was a...

American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez joins the growing Ryan Murphy American Story franchise, following American Horror Story, American Crime Story, and American Horror Stories. Now, we are only two episodes in, but Sports Story is already a winner in my book. But it doesn't come without its flaws. Let’s dive in!
Spoiler alert! Please note there are spoilers ahead if you missed the premiere episode, titled “If It’s To Be,” on FX. Go catch a rerun or stream the episode on Hulu starting Sept. 18. Dive into our review for the premiere episode as we also recap the main events.
Before taking us through Aaron Hernandez’s (Josh Andres Rivera) troubled childhood, Sports Story kicks off with Aaron shooting his former friend Alexander Bradley (portrayed by Roland Buck III) and dumping his body. But Bradley did not die, and he is sure to let Aaron know, threatening him over the phone.

By the time Aaron Hernandez (Josh Rivera) points the gun at Odin Lloyd (J. Alex Brinson) in the eighth chapter of FX’s American Sports Story, we have been made to understand exactly how he got here. What might have seemed like a shocking act out of the blue in 2013, when the NFL superstar was first arrested for killing his friend, feels, after seven episodes of painstaking backstory, like the culmination of a perfect storm of unfortunate circumstances and worse choices. It’s no less horrifying, and no more justifiable. But it is more explicable.
What remains unclear, however, is precisely why we’re reliving all of this in the first place. The Ryan Murphy-produced American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez — planned as the first season in an ongoing anthology à la American Crime Story or American Horror Story — is well-cast, carefully researched, and scrupulous in avoiding the temptation...

‘American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez’ Review: FX’s Distressing True Crime Series Targets Football
“American Crime Story,” the second installment in Ryan Murphy’s FX franchise after “American Horror Story,” began with a football star. “The People vs. O.J. Simpson” focused on how fame and finances can turn our legal system into a circus, but at its center was the former Buffalo Bills running back. As played by Cuba Gooding Jr., Simpson had an erratic disposition. At times, he could be charming, even comforting, a man who fit the part of a TV personality beloved by his wealthy, white Brentwood neighbors. But under pressure, he was a different guy. He was angry in a way that felt uncontrollable, and when he flew off the handle, Simpson no longer resembled the celebrity who you’d go out to see for a Friday night movie and then invite into your home to talk football every Sunday.

Crazy Legs Features has nabbed film rights to The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince, the bestseller from Mayte Garcia, chronicling her romance with the iconic musical artist, for development as a scripted biopic. With the WGA strike in the rearview mirror, the company is now in search of a writer to pen the adaptation.
The first wife of the superstar born Prince Rogers Nelson, Mayte’s bestseller offers a perspective on Prince through their intensely personal relationship that shows a depth and nuance never revealed of the famously private and beloved artist. The book’s title is inspired by the hit song Prince wrote about their legendary love story that started backstage at a concert. What began as a friendship between two artists blossomed into a romance, thrived as a fairytale from their wedding day, and then struggled due to the devastating losses that ultimately ended their marriage in 2000. It’s almost impossible to escape once you get involved with the mob, and if I were Emile Hirsch‘s Bobby Belluci, I’d start learning how to swim with the fishes. Vertical Entertainment proudly presents an Inside Man trailer depicting a bloody tale of deception, dangerous liaisons, and a disturbing body count. Based on actual events, Inside Man tells the story of Bobby Belluci, a disgraced police detective seeking redemption by going undercover to expose a violent crime syndicate. However, as Bobby sinks deeper into the mob, the price for absolution may be higher than he can afford.
Danny A. Abeckaser directs from a screenplay by Kosta Kondiloppulos. Taking place during the 1960s and 1970s, Inside Man stars Lucy Hale, Jake Cannavale, Ashley Greene, Vincent Laresca, Kyle Stefanski, Greg Finley, and Bo Dietl alongside Hirsch.

The pop star will continue her relationship with NBC with the second season of “World of Dance,” and she’s busy with other projects as well as her Las Vegas residency.

She said that playing Harlee “strengthened” her and “helped me grow into a more self-assured woman.”
“It’s crazy how some parts permeate your soul and change you forever and for that I am grateful,” Lopez said. “We crafted a poetic three-season arc on how her journey ends, which is true redemption. The way only Harlee could have done it – the hard way, the road less traveled. I thank NBC and all the talented actors, writers, crew and producers for going on this journey with us!”
“We are very proud that this remarkable series attracted iconic stars like the incomparable Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta to broadcast television,” said co-president of scripted programming at NBC Entertainment Lisa Katz. “We are so grateful for all the hard work and dedication of Jack Orman and his incredible producers as well as the entire cast and crew.”

“This is one of our flagship shows and we’re excited to share the final chapter with viewers who will be on the edge of their seats discovering how Harlee’s story concludes,” president of Universal Television Pearlena Igbokwe added. “It has been a supreme pleasure to work with Jennifer Lopez and her producing partners Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina, Ryan Seacrest and Nina Wass.”
“Shades of Blue” stars Ray Liotta opposite Lopez, along with Drea de Matteo, Dayo Okeniyi, Vincent Laresca, Hampton Fluker, Sarah Jeffrey and Nick Wechsler as a recurring guest star.
Lopez executive produces with showrunner Jack Orman and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina, Ryan Seacrest and Nina Wass. The drama is produced by Universal Television, Nuyorican Productions, Egtv, Ryan Seacrest Productions and Jack Orman Productions.

You may have wondered what Leonardo DiCaprio did after his big Oscars win. Clearly, he partied -- we're talking about Leo -- but based on reports from Page Six and The New York Daily News, he really bro-ed out with his boys, as opposed to just magically summoning a dozen new Victoria's Secret models. (That may have happened later, though.)
"He ended up at Ago — rolled in around midnight with his whole pack of boys," one partygoer told the Daily News, saying Leo met up with actors Lukas Haas, Tobey Maguire, Vincent Laresca, and nightclub kingpin Richie Akiva.
In the '90s, Leo's crew was known as the "Pussy Posse," but perhaps because of "The Wolf of Wall Street" or maybe some attempt at evolving past that alliterative but sexist title, they have supposedly changed the name of their boy band. That's what another partygoer told the NY Daily News,...

Anne Fletcher has had an admirably diverse career, and as a director, she's proven herself to be at least somewhat commercially adept. "Step Up" inspired a slew of sequels, "The Proposal" was one of the biggest of Sandra Bullock's hits, and now she's back with what looks like a big easy summer comedy hit, "Hot Pursuit." It would be a lot easier to give the film a soft pass if it wasn't so aggressively lazy. I get it. Formula is easy, and there are plenty of films that exist largely to play directly to expectations. Not every film has to be some radical reinvention of the form. A movie like "Hot Pursuit" is incredibly easy for the people who are giving out the greenlights to understand. "Two stars, on the road, mistaken for bad guys, lots of jokes." If you strike gold with that basic formula, you get "Midnight Run.

Whether he’s a wiseguy or a man of the law, Ray Liotta has a commanding onscreen presence which is scheduled to arrive in your homes later this year. TV Line reports that the Goodfellas star has joined NBC’s upcoming police drama, Shades Of Blue, along with Sons Of Anarchy‘s Drea De Matteo.
The pair are slated to join Jennifer Lopez, who previously snagged the lead. The scripts – written by 3 Days To Kill scribe Adi Hasak – must have been impressive, as it’s already secured a 13-episode straight-to-series order from the network.

"Marvel's Agents of Shield" will be taking Clark Gregg's Agent Phil Coulson to some dark places in the upcoming episode "Fzzt." In a new clip from the Nov. 5 episode, Coulson recalls the experience of dying in "The Avengers" to guest actor Vincent Laresca.
