At 17 he was a designer in a furniture business but soon after starting he took an interest in the theatre. A French cafe cook who'd been a clown taught him mime then an elocution teacher taught him voice production.He was nearly 20 when he decided to try his luck in the theatre but war came and with his drawing ability he ended up in an aircraft drawing office. In his spare time he worked at an amateur theatre the after the war he got a job with the BBC drama repertory company which lasted 6 years then it was into the West End.Probably best remembered for the television comedy series The Larkins.

David has always been interested in drawing and at 17 got a job as a designer in a furniture business but soon after starting he took an interest in the theatre. He met a former clown who taught him mime then a childrens elocution teacher taught him voice production. He was nearly 20 when he decided to try his luck at acting but the war came and he was soon in an aircraft drawing office but spent his spare time as a London amateur theatre doing every job possible from tearing tickets to acting. He also appeared in revues for the troops in hospitals and camps. After the war he got a job with the BBC Drama Repertory Company staying with it or 6 years playing 100's of roles then went into a West End play. Probably best remembered as the brow beaten husband with Peggy Mount in the television series The Larkins.
