When Cillian Murphy won his first Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer, the first person he turned to was his wife, Yvonne McGuinness. McGuinness supported her husband at the ceremony, and she has been by his side for years. The couple fell in love after meeting just before Murphy rose to prominence.

In 1996, Murphy, then a law student, decided to try his hand at acting. He landed his first role in the play Disco Pigs, which was so successful that the cast toured with it for 18 months. Around this time, he met McGuinness, a visual artist. She joined him on the tour.

When we last left Peter Parker, our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, he’d just watched footage of his battle in London with Quentin Beck, a.k.a. the charlatan savior Mysterio, being broadcast throughout the greater Manhattan area. Then J. Jonah Jameson, a man who never met a webslinger he didn’t want to string up, outs Parker as the man behind the mask. When your face is plastered over a million giant midtown screens and local news anchor Pat Kiernan is announcing that some whiz kid from Queens is the vigilante who “killed” a “hero,...

A Brooklyn couple got married on the local news Thursday morning. Via videoconference.
Life in the time of the coronavirus pandemic is all about finding innovative ways to keep on living as normally as possible during quarantine, which is just what bride Julie Raskin and groom Matthew Haicken did with help from local station NY1, even as their August wedding plans were destroyed.
“Mornings on 1” anchor Pat Kiernan officiated the wedding over Zoom, which was held just under two weeks after Governor Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order allowing videoconference weddings in the state. Kiernan is a certified officiant and tweeted April 18, “If your routine as a couple includes spending mornings with NY1 and you’re looking to make it official, let’s try to make it happen.” Kiernan donned a tux for the special event.

As well as telling a single overarching narrative that gives their characters freedom to drift in and out of each other’s franchises to suit the story, the movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are also always packed full of hidden references and Easter Eggs for eagle-eyed fans to try and uncover. Some of them can be quite obvious and others are incredibly obscure, with James Gunn claiming that there’s still one hidden Easter Egg in Guardians of the Galaxy that nobody has managed to discover even after five years.

Five anchorwomen at NY1, New York City’s premier 24-hour news channel, have filed an age- and gender-discrimination lawsuit against channel operator Charter Communications, claiming they all have been “repeatedly marginalized and relegated to second-class status” as younger women and men have moved forward.
“Women on TV should accurately reflect women in society and be celebrated at every age, not treated like decoration that can be disposed and replaced with a newer version,” anchors Roma Torre, Kristen Shaughnessy, Jeanine Ramirez, Vivian Lee and Amanda Farinacci said in a statement. “We have poured our hearts and souls into our work at NY1, but in the end we have been left excluded, marginalized and vulnerable. We are fighting for ourselves and all other women who face this same struggle on a daily basis, and we hope to send a clear message to all news media across the country that this must change.

He first made his appearance as a jury member at Bruce Banner’s trial in the 1989 TV movie, “The Trial of the Incredible Hulk,” and cameos by Marvel godhead Stan Lee are now the “Where’s Waldo?” of the movies his stories created. He resurfaced in 2000’s “X-Men,” became a recurring gag in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” movies, and then formalized in “Iron Man” at the dawn of the McU. Now, moviegoers can count on seeing some version of the icon (and his sunglasses) in each new Marvel film, even those that aren’t part of the McU. Some appearances are amusing; some are cringe-worthy, and several have even been, um, super horned up.

A 28-year-old first-time progressive candidate, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, defeated Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-n.Y.) on Tuesday, scoring one of the year’s biggest political upsets.
Crowley, who was a member of the Democratic leadership and was considered a possible successor to Nancy Pelosi, has been in the House since 1999, and has represented the 14th district since 2013. He was the chair of the House Democratic Caucus since 2017.
Ocasio-Cortez‘s victory was quickly compared to 2014 primary upset in which Dave Brat ousted Eric Cantor, then the No. 2 Republican in the House, from his Virginia district seat.
NY1 captured Ocasio-Cortez’s reaction as she realized she was winning the race.

Kelly Ripa stopped by "Late Night" (Weeknights, 12:37 a.m. Et on NBC) Tuesday and chatted to Jimmy Fallon about the ongoing search for a new "Live!" co-host.
Ripa's been fronting the show with a series of guest hosts since Regis Philbin retired in November 2011.
Names linked with the job so far have included Michael Strahan, Neil Patrick Harris, "NY 1 News" morning anchor Pat Kiernan, and Ripa's husband, Mark Consuelos.
What about her current guest host, "SNL" star Seth Myers?
There had been frenzied speculation that he'd landed the gig, but he recently shot down the rumors. "No, no, no, no, no," Meyers told The Orlando Sun-Sentinel. "I'm really in love with the job I have. I'm very excited to be going back [to "SNL"] for the election season, which is always fun."
Ripa joked that Myers may indeed not be the best man to fill Reege's seat fulltime. Apparently, Myers is not a morning person.

Kelly Ripa has auditioned "Live! With Kelly" co-hosts since Regis Philbin left the show in November 2011, but one name can be ruled out: Mark Consuelos, Ripa's husband.
“No one would make me happier than Mark, but he values our marriage and he says that he doesn't see how we could stay married and both do that show," Ripa told George Wayne in a new Vanity Fair interview appearing in the June 2012 issue.
When Kathie Lee Gifford left "Live!" in 2000, Philbin hosted the program solo with a rotating cast of guest co-hosts for a year before Ripa officially joined. The show is following a similar format this year.
"I've been through it from the other side," Ripa told the Associated Press. "I sort of understand how it works, and what it is they're looking for, and how this process can't be rushed."

Kelly Ripa has auditioned "Live! With Kelly" co-hosts since Regis Philbin left the show in November 2011, but one name can be ruled out: Mark Consuelos, Ripa's husband.

I remember when I was in college, I visited New York City and one of the things on my to-do list was to watch an episode of The Robin Byrd Show, the famous local-access show that was parodied on SNL. I wanted to know everything about being a “Real” New Yorker, and apparently, watching this show was an important piece of that puzzle. But to all of you aspiring New Yorkers, let me advise you, don’t be like me. Late night cable access is not where it’s at anymore. What makes you a true New Yorker is an obsessive knowledge of our local commercials. Our local cable station, NY1 (and its glorious morning anchor Pat Kiernan) do a great job of running some real classics, and we’ve picked our favorites through the years so you can get acquainted with what to expect when you move into your...

While not technically a horror movie, 4:44 Last Day On Earth (2012) still manages to pack a terrifying, if quiet, punch. Written and directed by maverick filmmaker Abel Ferrara (Bad Leiutenant {1992}, The Funeral {1996}, Ms. 45 {1981}) 4:44 takes an intimate look at a Bohemian couple living out their final day on Earth.
Cisco (Willem Dafoe) is a successful actor living with his artist girlfriend Skye (Shanyn Leigh) on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. As the title suggests, life on Earth will cease to exist on this particular day at 4:44 Am due to humanity’s failure to do anything about climate change. Cisco and Skye say their goodbyes to loved ones via Skype, while in between they meditate, make love, and order Chinese food for dinner. Skye is also furiously trying to finish her painting while Cisco goes to visit friends in just one of a...

This morning, I woke up thinking two things: a) "Gee, it would be great if I had some Morningstar Farms veggie sausage links," and b), "Gee, it would be great if I made it through the day without seeing another fucking 'Shit ______ Say' video." Unfortunately, neither of those things happened. Fortunately, however, "Shit Pat Kiernan Says" did. For those of you who don't live in the Tri-state area, Pat Kiernan has been the NY1 morning news anchor since 1997, achieving local cult-hero status with the daily segment "Pat's Papers." He's primarily known for his deadpan delivery, and for being super-hot in a smarmy, young Republican kind of way. He is also Canadian (which somehow makes total sense), and he makes weekly appearances on a Swedish television show called "Sondagsparty with Filip and Fredrik" (which makes even more [...]...

While we saw NY1 on 'Gossip Girl' last night, where was our favorite morning anchor Pat Kiernan? On the Oct. 24 episode of Gossip Girl, Dan scored his first TV interview -- and considering his book is based on the lives of his Upper East Side friends, it was only right that it was on NY1! I expected beloved anchor Pat Kiernan to make a brief cameo, but when he wasn't spotted on set with Pat's Papers in tow I was definitely disappointed. How could you have NY1 without Pat? Well it turns out, the show never approached the anchor! We took to twitter to find out about Pat's suspicious absence, where the digital media-savvy anchor tweeted, "@katrinacm #Gg didn't ask me to make an appearance. I'm usually game for a TV or movie cameo." While Pat's presence was definitely missed last night, at least now we know that...

Pat Kiernan has been a staple of New York City television since joining NY1 - the city’s highly informative cable news station - in 1997. The Canadian born news anchor’s most notable work on NYC’s broadcast waves is a segment called In the Papers, eight minutes every morning in which Pat recaps a selection of stories from New York’s newspapers. The success of In the Papers on local TV has led Pat to the World Wide Web, where he launched Pat’s Papers, a national online version of the daily TV segment. If the idea of a guy regurgitating newspaper stories in front of a camera and posting it online sounds ridiculous, that’s because it is. But what makes the show watchable - even enjoyable - is that Pat, the former host of VH1’s World Series of Pop Culture, gets that it’s a little...
