Back in the late 1920s and early 1930s, Hollywood operated with a different set of rules. Before the Hays Code cracked down on content in the middle of 1934, films were brushed with hot topics such as sex, female liberation, alcoholism, and depression. These movies are the Pre-Code films.

Working within this realm was just one female director – the Queen, Dorothy Arzner. This director not only created films at a time where men dictated and controlled the industry, she also produced films that had a clear feminist voice. With snappy and head-strong female leads dominating her movies, Arzner helped change the landscape with these incredible films. She was so popular that she was the first woman to be included in the Directors Guild of America.

Thanks to the BFI Film On Film Festival, audiences got to see a newly restored print of her nifty comedy, Working Girls (1931).

Beyoncé made the biggest news of the night Sunday at the 65th annual Grammy Awards.

The singer led the 2023 Grammy Awards nominations with a total of nine. Beyoncé’s career total of 88 nominations set a new record — one tied by her husband Jay-Z, who earned five noms this year. During the Premiere Ceremony, the pop star picked up two Grammys, breaking her 28-win tie with Quincy Jones. She also won best R&b song during the live broadcast, for “Cuff It,” tying late conductor Georg Solti’s 31-win record. She wasn’t there to accept that award, having experienced a very L.A. annoyance — being stuck in traffic — but arrived later during the ceremony, with host Trevor Noah presenting her the Grammy while she was seated in the audience. Later in the show, she won best dance/electronic album for Renaissance, beating Solti’s record, with a total of 32 career wins.

The lengthy list of nominees for the 2023 Grammys have officially been unveiled.

On Tuesday (15 November), the Recording Academy announced the artists who have been nominated in each category, with Adele and Beyoncé battling it out for the top award, Album of the Year.

Winners will be announced on 5 February 2023 during the ceremony, which will broadcast live from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. US audiences can tune in on CBS and stream live and on-demand on Paramount+.

Beyoncé leads the field with nine nominations for the 65th annual Grammy Awards, which were revealed today. The singer, who is up for Album, Record and Song of the year, scored her 88th career nom, tying her with spouse Jay-Z as the most-nominated act of all time.

Kendrick Lamar is next with eight noms, with Adele and Brandi Carlile tied for third with seven apiece. Mary J. Blige, DJ Khaled, Future, Terius “The-Dream” Gesteelde-Diamant, Randy Merrill and budding movie star Harry Styles are next with six each.

WarnerMedia is bringing HBO and HBO Max closer together by combining the respective production and business affairs teams under one unit.

As part of the reorganization, Janet Graham Borba’s role has been expanded to executive vice president of production for HBO and HBO Max, while Susanna Felleman will now serve as executive vice president of business affairs for HBO and HBO Max. Longtime HBO and Turner executives Sandra Dewey and Pat Kelly will depart.

Both Borba and Felleman will report to Glenn Whitehead, president of business affairs and production for HBO and HBO Max. Casey Bloys leads the entire team as chief content officer for HBO and HBO Max.

“As HBO Max moves toward the same in-house production model that’s been the heart of the HBO programming lineup for the past many years, it’s become clear that we need greater consistency across the business and production practices of HBO and HBO Max.

The production and business affairs teams at HBO and HBO Max are being merged as the WarnerMedia streamlines operations between the cable network and streamer.

The move will see a number of staff changes across the teams. HBO execs Janet Graham Borba and Susanna Felleman are gaining expanded roles and HBO Max and Turner execs Sandra Dewey and Pat Kelly are leaving.

The streamlining, under Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer for HBO and HBO Max, will see one single in-house production team and a single business affairs operation across the two platforms.

Graham Borba, who has been at HBO since 1995, becomes EVP, Production for HBO and HBO Max. She has overseen shows including Game of Thrones and became the head of HBO’s Production Department, with oversight of Los Angeles and New York-based production, post-production, and production operations team in 2016.

In a bid to further streamline its internal operations, WarnerMedia is merging the executive teams for production and business affairs at HBO and HBO Max.

As part of the move, HBO veterans Janet Graham Borba and Susanna Felleman will expand their duties, with Borba becoming executive vice president of production and Felleman becoming executive vice president of business affairs for the prestige cabler and HBO-branded streaming service.

Edward “Bunny” Lee — the influential producer who both expanded reggae’s sound and helped proliferate the genre’s audience worldwide — has died at the age of 79.

Trojan Records, which licensed Lee’s Jamaican productions in the U.K., confirmed the producer’s death. While Lee’s exact cause of death is unknown, he battled health issues in recent years.

Prosecutors have dropped the assault charges against ex-ny Yankees infielder Pat Kelly and his Gf stemming from an October arrest, TMZ Sports has learned.  We broke the story ... Kelly and Marina Cernova were arrested at the London Hotel in NYC on Oct. 1 after Marina called cops to report Pat had attacked her.
