Rejoice, "Evangelion" fans of America, for you finally have a chance to see the saga's conclusion in a theater. "Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice Upon A Time" had a (very successful) theatrical run in its native Japan, but international audiences had to settle for a Prime Video release in August 2021. GKids has since acquired the North American distribution rights and has partnered with Fathom Events for theatrical exhibitions. After a one-night IMAX screening on November 30th, the film is playing during the week of December 6 in theaters across the U.S. These showings will exclusively show the subbed version of the film: Japanese audio, English subtitles. If you prefer your anime dubbed, you're out of luck.

It looks as though fans will have to wait just one week longer to see Hideaki Anno’s Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance on Region 1 Blu-ray/DVD. The film was original dated for home release on March 29, but Amazon now lists a new date of April 5, 2011. But fans have waited this long for the film, and another week shouldn’t hurt much.

The site also lists Spike Spencer (Shinji Ikari), Colleen Clinkenbeard (Ritsuko Akagi), and Allison Keith-Shipp (Misato Katsuragi) as returning for the film. The will join already named voice actors for the new characters (here).

Here’s a list of some of the new movie and TV shows coming to DVD and Blu-ray this week that we’re looking forward to seeing. Also, there’s some classic, and not-so-classic, movies hitting Blu-ray for the first time this week as well.

Of all the new releases, we’re particularly interested in the Blu-ray versions of movies and TV shows such as J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek, Gone with the Wind, Thirst, Rome: The Complete Series and the Blu-ray debut of David Fincher’s awesome Fight Club (shown above with Brad Pitt and Edward Norton). This week, one of the greatest anime series of all time will be revisited. On Tuesday, November 17th, Funimation is scheduled to release Evangelion 1.01. Subtitled “You Are (Not) Alone”, this new chapter marks a major reversioning for the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise.

Eva has been getting reworked from the beginning. The ending for the original series drew a firestorm of controversy, with its lackluster production and anti-climactic conclusion. “Death and Rebirth” and “End of Evangelion”, two feature length films meant to provide a more satisfying resolution, did more to fan the flames than to quench them.
