Mumbai, Aug 23 (Ians) Actors Sharman Joshi and Sharib Hashmi have been signed for the upcoming film ‘Ziddi Sanam’. The film, a thriller, marks the directorial debut of Arvind Singh Rajpoot, and will go on floors at the end of September 2023 and is looking for a release in 2024.

It also stars Aarya Babbar and Sonalika Diwajita, and has been written by Amjad Ali and Arvind Singh Rajpoot.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharman Joshi said: “After a long time I have heard such a good thriller. I am looking forward to starting the shoot. It is something which I have not done and I am really excited to start shooting.”

Talking about the same director Arvind Rajpoot said: “The film is very close to my heart, and I am honoured that Sharman has agreed to do the main role. He really liked the narration I gave him, and I am very excited to start shooting.

The musical was adapted as a 1965 film by Robert Wise, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, which went on to win five Oscars and also had two live television adaptations – on NBC in 2013 and ITV in 2015.

“Music School” is directed by Indian civil service officer-turned filmmaker Paparao Biyyala, who has obtained the rights for three songs from “The Sound of Music” – “Do Re Mi,” “So Long Farewell” and “Sixteen Going on Seventeen.” Veteran Indian composer Ilaiyaraaja has recreated the songs along with the London Philharmonic Orchestra to suit the sensibilities of an Indian audience.

“Music School” deals with the academic pressure faced by young students from society, parents and teachers. The film has eleven songs in all. Some of the songs are choreographed by the U.K.

Mumbai, April 10 (Ians) Lyricist Dr Sagar, who is known for his work in movies and series like ‘Daas Dev’, ‘Setters’, ‘Anaarkali of Aarah’, ‘Bheed’ and ‘Khaki-The Bihar Chapter’, has worked with maverick composer Ilaiyaraaja for the upcoming film ‘Music School’.

The lyricist has drawn huge appreciation from the audience for his Bhojpuri-styled songs such as ‘Bambai Main Ka Baa’ and that of ‘Maharani 2’.

Talking about working with Ilaiyaraaja, Dr Sagar, who hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district, told Ians: “Ilaiyaraaja is a big name in the music industry. I got a chance to meet him around four years ago in Chennai for the Paparao Biyyala-directed musical film ‘Music School’ which has about 12 songs. I’ve had the privilege to be involved in seven tracks. And in a way, we could say that the dialogue itself has been molded into poetry.”

Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan’s look test pictures from the film ‘3 Idiots’, which was released in 2009, has been unveiled. Kareena played a medical student named Pia Sahastrabuddhe in Rajkumar Hirani’s directorial. The film also stars Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi. It’s been 14 years since the film was released and Vidhu Vinod Chopra films released a slew of photos on their Instagram page.

A group of leading Indian filmmakers and producers discussed strategies for bringing local audiences back into cinemas following the huge rise in Ott consumption in India, at a panel at the International Film Festival of India (Iffi) in Goa.

“The platforms existed before the pandemic and people flirted with them, but when the pandemic happened they took Ott home and started consuming content across different languages and genres,” said Vivek Krishnani, CEO of IN10 Media Network and former Sony India head. “When cinemas opened again, people were shy to return, but the choice of content that drives them to cinemas can’t be same.”

Director-producer Ramesh Sippy, whose credits include iconic Indian films such as Sholay, said this was an issue even before the rise of streaming: “There was a time when you only had to announce a film and people would rush to the cinema without knowing exactly what they were going to see.

Taking place June 24-26, the festival is a 50:50 partnership between Blue Elephant Films and Rose Theatre which aims to address a decline in the independent film industry by establishing a new platform for emerging talent and creating opportunities which will link new filmmakers and industry experts. Exclusive: Acclaimed Bollywood filmmaker Rahul Dholakia (Raees) is to create his debut digital series after following last month’s annual ‘Police Unity Tour’, a four-day bicycle ride from New Jersey to Washington D.C to honour Law Enforcement Officers who died on duty. Dholakia met various officers, survivors and families as he was researching for the series, which doesn’t have a platform yet. Dholakia said: “The Police Unity Tour organization has given me the permission and promised the full support and cooperation to bring this subject to light. That’s why in their 25 years, this is the first time any individual has travelled with them and been given insights into their workings. It was an eye-opener for me.” Dholakia’s forthcoming films include Excel Entertainment’s feature on a Mumbai-based firefighter as well as projects he is developing for his own banner in the U.

Biyyala (Willing to Sacrifice) is directing the feature, which is about the pressure of the unimaginative education system on children, which aims only to make them doctors or engineers, leaving no time for art or sport.

Choreographer Adam Murray, who has credits include The King’s Man, Cruella and Rocketman, is aboard for the shoot. Cinematographer Kiran Deohans is also attached.

The cast is comprised of: Sharman Joshi, Shriya Saran, Suhasini Mulay, Benjamin Gilani, Prakash Raj, Telugu comedian Brahmanandam, Vinay Varma, Gracy Goswamy and Ozu Barua.
