Jose Prakash's original name was K Baby Joseph. It was Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair who changed his name to Jose Prakash.

Jose Prakash's entry into Mollywood's black and white screen was a coincidence. According to the article 'This villain will surely go to heaven' by Manoj K Das, Actor Thikkurissi and composer Dakshinamoorthy heard K Baby Joseph, who was an active member of theatre groups in Kottayam, singing at a cultural event. Dakshinamoorthy wanted him to sing for movies. Thikkurissi wanted him to act. And Jose Prakash (as he was rechristened by Thikkurissi) went on to act and sing to present Kerala a new face and style.

According to the article 'This villain will surely go to heaven' by Manoj K Das, Jose Prakash's only regret in life was that he couldn't trace the Gorkha who once saved his life. During the late forties, he was robbed while transiting through West Bengal. Left with no money or identification papers on a railway platform, Joseph Prakash was totally devastated, a bad jaundice infection completing his misery.

He fell unconscious. Jose Prakash was woken up by a Gorkha who bought him hot tea and took him to a hospital. Gorkha would visit Jose Prakash every day for three months he spent there. But on the day of discharge, Gorkha didn't turn up. And Jose Prakash continued his search for Gorkha. Jose Prakash wanted to meet him. "For I saw god in him," the actor said in his Christmas message. But he couldn't find Gorkha.

Like other actors of that age he was not a theatre or stage artist. He had served for Indian army for 8 years. He later left army and return to his homeland and start small business. Having interest in cinema and music from childhood he started a small club with his friends called Kottayam Arts Club in which he was the lead singer.

He received The Kerala State Television Award For Best Actor - Mikhayelinte Santhathikal in 1993, and in 2006 The Bahadoor Award.
