He was illiterate for much of his time in the Sex Pistols, although he did finally learn to read by 1977, and was writing many of the lyrics of the last few Pistols' songs at the end (including "Silly Thing.")

Played live onstage with the Sex Pistols after only playing the guitar for three months.
