There have been dozens of retelling of the story and other actors, including even Cicely Tyson, have played the lead character, so why not Ice Cube? He's just as good a choice as any. What I'm referring to is the news item, first reported by Deadline (Here), that Ice Cube has signed a deal to play Ebenezer Scrooge in a new updated version of Charles Dickens' immortal novel "A Christmas Carol", to be entitled "Humbug" for Universal Pictures. The studio won battle to acquire the script, against three other studios, written Todd R Jones and Earl Richey Jones, which was previously set up at Relativity until it went bankrupt a few months ago. With the recent biopic documenting Ice Cube.s life and times with the iconic rap group N.W.A., the actor has been put back in the spotlight. It.s not as if he.s gone anywhere, but it does seem to have been some time since we saw him in a starring capacity. Well now it turns out that Universal Pictures has just purchased a script entitled Humbug and Ice Cube is attached to star. According to Variety, the script from writers Todd R Jones and Earl Richey Jones (Johnson Family Vacation, Rio) is a contemporary retelling of the classic Charles Dickens story, A Christmas Carol. In this new iteration, a wealthy real estate mogul is given the opportunity to redeem himself by traveling with the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future to different parts of his life. Ice Cube is set to play Scrooge in a modern retelling of Charles Dickens' immortal tale A Christmas Carol, only instead of being a money lender, he's a real-estate mogul. Prepare yourself for... Humbug.
Deadline reports that the project was fought over by four different studios before Universal won out, resulting in a big paycheque for the writers, Todd R Jones and Earl Richey Jones, and a lot of pressure on its director, Tim Story.
Universal recently made a lot of money with Ice Cube thanks to Straight Outta Compton and Ride Along, so they're not doubt hoping for a similar box office windfall this time around.
Fingers crossed for some appearances from other Nwa alumni - Dr Dre would make an excellent Ghost Of Christmas Past, while Arabian Prince could do a decent Jacob Marley.

Deadline reports that Universal Pictures has snatched up a Christmastime, Ice Cube-starring script about a modern-day Scrooge. Titled Humbug, the film will reimagine Charles Dickens's Christmas Carol with Ice as a wealthy, unpleasant real-estate mogul haunted by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future (no word yet on if this mogul will also be a Republican who eventually runs for president and threatens to build huge walls everywhere, but it will be a cautionary tale nonetheless). The script was reportedly written by Todd R. Jones and Earl Richey Jones; Tim Story, who has worked with Ice on Barbershop and the Ride Along series, is set to direct for a potential 2017 release — in other words: not soon enough.

Currently riding high on the success of Ride Along, the Jump Street films and Straight Outta Compton, Ice Cube is about to have a very happy Christmas. He's reportedly negotiated an eight-figure fee to star in Humbug, a Scrooge-riffing comedy to be directed by his Ride Along and Barbershop honcho Tim Story.Obviously taking Charles Dickens' perennial A Christmas Carol as its inspiration, Humbug will see Cube playing an ultra-capitalist real-estate mogul shown the error of his greedy ways when visited by a succession of didactic ghosts on Christmas Eve. "Any motherfucker who go around saying 'Merry Christmas' deserve a cap in they ass," he probably won't say.MGM, New Line and Disney all wanted the project, but Universal won the bidding war. Todd R. Jones and R. Richey Jones (Johnson Family Vacation, Rio) wrote the screenplay that caused all the buzz. Whether we're talking about an R-rated...

The theater was stuffed with tykes with mouths agape — whispering, screaming, and coughing. I have no idea if that means they were enjoying it. From an adult perspective, this anthropomorphic epic isn't necessarily a painful endurance test, but unlike Nickelodeon's Rango, there isn't a single compelling reason to recommend it to anyone over the age of 12. The voice cast is unsurprisingly stacked with actors in vogue looking to score an easy paycheck. Jesse Eisenberg channels his innermost neurosis as Blu, our fine, feathered protagonist with a fear of flying.

Johnson Family Vacation
Opens
Friday, April 9
NEW YORK -- A genial family comedy well-timed to capitalize on the rising popularity of comedian Cedric the Entertainer, "Johnson Family Vacation" is a distinct if more genteel throwback to National Lampoon's popular 1980s "Vacation" series starring Chevy Chase. Mild in both humor and impact, this well-cast comedy should provide welcome diversion during the holidays for audiences looking for a somewhat lighter experience than the crucifixion of Christ or the massacre at the Alamo.
The rudimentary plot by first-time screenwriters Todd R. Jones and Earl Richey Jones has The Johnson Family piling into their loaner Lincoln Navigator -- at times the film plays like a feature-length car commercial -- on a road trip from California to Missouri for a family reunion. Said car has been tricked out with various hip-hop-style accouterments, which becomes one of the film's running gags.
The family is not exactly a harmonious unit, as the irascible Nate Johnson (Cedric) is currently separated from his beautiful wife, Dorothy (Vanessa Williams), with the inevitable tensions leading to much squabbling. Things aren't much easier between Nate and his children: teenage son DJ (Bow Wow), who aspires to a rapping career; precociously sexy daughter Nikki (Solange Knowles), who dresses to show off her assets; and young daughter Destiny (Gabby Soleil), who brings her imaginary dog on the trip.
The series of mildly slapstick comic misadventures that ensue, including one elongated episode with a comely young hitchhiker (an amusing Shannon Elizabeth) who turns out to be a witch, are largely unmemorable, though Cedric manages to extract as much humor as possible out of the various situations, many of which revolve around his character's horniness toward his ex. (The less-than-buff comedian and the gorgeous Williams represent one of those mismatched couples who only show up in the movies or sitcoms.) Things perk up appreciably toward the end with the appearance of Steve Harvey as Nate's highly competitive brother; you can feel the performers, who toured together as two of the "Kings of Comedy", bringing out the juice in each other.
Cedric, who stole the "Barbershop" movies with the ease of a master vaudevillian, delivers a more conventional, Bill Cosby-style turn here but generally finds the laughs. He also has good chemistry with the cannily cast young music stars Bow Wow and Knowles (the latter making her film debut), both of whom deliver engaging performances.
