Smashing Pumpkins took over the Jimmy Kimmel Live outdoor stage for a live performance of their latest single, “Sighommi.” The band delivered the song in front of an audience packed into the performance area in the parking lot behind the studio where the late-night show is filmed.
“Sighommi” is a guitar-heavy selection from Smashing Pumpkins’ recently released thirteenth studio album, Aghori Mhori Mei, which arrived in August. Billy Corgan led the set with James Iha and Kiki Wong on guitar, Jimmy Chamberlin on drums, Jack Bates on bass, and Katie Cole on backing vocals.

In the waning days of the Nineties’ alt-rock revolution, just before major record labels turned forever away from left-of-center acts and toward more mainstream fare (coughBushcough) that forever made the world a duller place, Green Day and Smashing Pumpkins were two of the hottest young rock bands on the planet. And even though Green Day appealed more to punky skater types, and the Pumpkins fit in better with their sullen classmates on the other side of the detention hall, it wasn’t uncommon for teenagers in 1994 to have both Dookie...

Throughout rock and pop history, musicians have been undone by ambition and creative indulgence, but Billy Corgan has long thrived on both. Swimming against the current, and splashing water in our faces, has always seems to enthrall and energize him and Smashing Pumpkins. Just last year, Corgan unveiled the last disc of a three-part “rock opera,” Atum (pronounced “Autumn,” naturally), and who else would have not only turned to a long-expired rock trend but also sprinkled it with moments of musical and verbal lyricism?

After receiving over 10,000 applications in their nationwide search for a new guitarist, the Smashing Pumpkins revealed Friday the newest member of their band: Social media-famous guitarist Kiki Wong.
In January, the Pumpkins announced an open audition to fill the vacancy left by departing guitarist Jeff Schroeder, who had a 16-year tenure with Billy Corgan and company. Just two weeks later, the band said they received so many applications that it required “eight people working full-time to review each and every one.”

Smashing Pumpkins have named Kiki Wong as their new touring guitarist.
Following the departure of longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder last October, frontman Billy Corgan put out an open call for his replacement. The band received more than 10,000 applicants, which Corgan then whittled down to a group of finalists who auditioned in-person in Los Angeles last month. He settled on Wong, a veteran guitarist who has performed with the likes of Taylor Swift, Usher, and Bret Michaels, as well as with rock bands Nylon Pink, Hellfire Heart, and currently, Vigil of War.

“Reviewing the work of these incredible musicians was a herculean, albeit worthy effort,” Corgan said in a statement. “First off, I really want to thank everyone who submitted materials for consideration. It wasn’t an easy decision with how much great guitar playing we were lucky enough to hear and see over the past few months.

Josh Freese is rejoining A Perfect Circle for the band’s upcoming run on the “Sessanta Tour.” The outing will mark the first time the drummer will tour with Apc in 13 years.
The “Sessanta Tour” celebrates A Perfect Circle singer Maynard James Keenan’s 60th birthday, and will also feature another one of his bands, Puscifer, as well as Primus. The outing — which will see all three bands sharing the stage as they rotate between their various songs — kicks off April 2nd in Boston, with tickets available here.
Freese, who is now a member of Foo Fighters, will appear at all shows through April 20th at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. After that, he will jump off the tour due to his commitments with the Foos. Puscifer’s Gunnar Olsen will take over behind the kit for the rest of the jaunt, which wraps up May 4th in Queens,...

The Smashing Pumpkins’ open call for a new guitarist has been a… smashing success. In a social media statement, the current trio of Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin announced they’ve received upwards of 10,000 applications for the gig.
“The band has received over 10,000 submissions for the position of additional guitarist,” Smashing Pumpkins wrote. “Currently, there are 8 people working full-time to review each and every one.”
This past October, the Pumpkins’ longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder announced he was leaving the group after over 15 years. “I’ve decided to leave the band to make some space to explore a slightly different path,” he wrote at the time.
Smashing Pumpkins’ current lineup features Corgan on vocals/guitar, Iha on guitar, and Chamberlin on drums, along with touring bassist Jack Bates and multi-instrumentalist Katie Cole.

In a highly unusual move, the Smashing Pumpkins are soliciting a new guitarist with a general call-out.
The group announced Friday that they’re seeking to add a third guitarist to founding vocalist and guitarist Billy Corgan, guitarist James Iha, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlain. The group has big shows scheduled starting in June.
“The Smashing Pumpkins are in search of an additional guitarist,” the band said in a statement posted to social media. “The application process is open to anyone who might be interested.” An email was also listed (see below) for interested guitarists to submit a resume and any related materials.
The call went out after guitarist Jeff Schroeder, who joined the group in 2007, announced his exit.
“The amount of incredible memories created over the last 16 years with the band are almost too numerous to quantify,” Schroeder wrote. “Although it was a very difficult decision to make, I’ve...

Do you play guitar? Do you know every tiny intricacy of “Cherub Rock,” “Hummer,” and “Bullet With Butterfly Wings?” Are you looking for work? Will your schedule allow you to spend the summer and early fall playing arenas and stadiums across Europe and North America? If you answered yes to all of these questions, you might want to apply for a new job posting by the Smashing Pumpkins.

Exclusive: William Fichtner (Hypnotic) has been set to star opposite Free Solo‘s Alex Honnold and his fellow climbing legends Brette Harrington (The Alpinist) and Adrian Ballinger (Edge of the Earth) in The Sound, an indie horror pic set in the adrenaline-filled world of big wall rock climbing.
Written and directed by Brendan Devane (The Canyonlands), the film currently in production in Nevada follows a group of climbers as they embark on the formidable challenge of conquering the Forbidden Wall, a perilous climb that has remained off-limits for years. What initially begins as an audacious expedition swiftly transforms into a harrowing battle for survival against a malevolent force that toys with their minds and tests their resilience.
Intel on the climbers’ roles hasn’t been disclosed, but Fichtner portrays Conner, a father who is faced with losing his son in the same way he lost his father at a young age.

Since its 2021 debut, "Yellowjackets" has had the best soundtrack on TV, and season 2 kept up the momentum across its nine-episode run. Half of "Yellowjackets" is set in the 1990s and so the soundtrack pulls mostly from that era, especially indie rock, pop punk, and grunge. Those styles congeal into "No Return," the show's hypnotic original theme crafted by Anna Waronker and Craig Wedren. It sounds like the kind of song the characters could have listened to as teenagers and one that hints at their dark descent.
If you're in a playlist-making mood, check out /Film's own guide to every song on the "Yellowjackets" season 2 soundtrack. Beyond these songs being kick-ass, what do they bring to the show? I'd argue they not only add to the mood, they make watching "Yellowjackets" extra rewarding for viewers — you don't just walk away with great memories of the show itself, but new songs and...

With almost 20 years since the last episode of “That 70’s Show” aired, Netflix has revived this instant classic from the dead. “That ’90’s Show,” streaming on Netflix, pays homage to the original – delivering a fresh yet nostalgic spin-off, where original fans will find something to like.
All of the same actors and characters have returned for the spinoff and deliver the same brand of warm-hearted, light humor that we once came to love. This is nothing short of a miracle, with even cast members themselves doubting the producers could make it happen, with Topher Grace stating in an interview – “It would be so hard to bring that crew together. For me, I’d do it if no one ever saw it. Just ’cause it would be great to hang out with them for a week or something.”

"Hello, Wisconsin!"
It's time to face the hard truth — we are now as far removed from the 1990s as "That '70s Show" was from the 1970s when it first ran from 1998-2006. I'll give you a moment to pick yourself up off the floor after having to accept the crushing passage of time, but the good news is that Netflix is debuting their 10-episode, live-action sequel, "That '90s Show," early next year. The streamer convinced show creators Bonnie and Terry Turner to follow up with the Forman family after all these years, with almost the entire original cast returning, except for Danny Masterson (who is currently on trial and charged with three counts of rape) and Lisa Robin Kelly who tragically passed away in 2013.
The original series focused on Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and his friends, Donna (Laura Prepon), Kelso (Ashton Kutcher), Jackie (Mila Kunis), and Fez (Wilmer Valderrama) as...

The feeling of being trapped, like love, knows no gender. Titled “Adam Schlesinger, A Music Celebration, Virtual Show,” the stream will be primarily recorded at New York’s Bowery Electric and go out May 5 at 8 p.m. Et on the Rolling Live platform, with a ticket price of $20 that will benefit MusiCares and the closed host venue itself.
Said Porter, “This is a proper musical send-off for my soul brother with a bunch of talented and groovy guests that would make Adam wince.”
Among the frequent collaborators of Schlesinger’s who’ll appear on the show besides Porter and his band the Berlin Waltz are Taylor Hanson and James Iha, both of his band Tinted Windows,...

The Smashing Pumpkins have released another pair of new songs, “Purple Blood” and “Dulcet in E,” from their upcoming album, Cyr, out November 27th.
“Purple Blood” boasts a classic Pumpkins feel, with Billy Corgan lacing his vocals over a big guitar crunch, heavy drums, and some moody atmospheric synth textures. But as the song moves forward, a lighter edge creeps in, and by the end, Corgan is crooning over an acoustic guitar backed by soft choral harmonies.

Kevin Parker remembers hearing his older brother play Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream when they were growing up in Perth, Australia. “It was like an indescribable cross between optimistic and sad music,” says Parker. “All my friends were into Rage Against the Machine. Siamese Dream was my internal headspace album, I guess.”
That 1993 album helped inspire Parker to start making songs as Tame Impala, a solo project that has since grown into one of the biggest rock acts in the world, blending hazy guitars, disco beats, and huge pop melodies. That success has helped Parker,...

Smashing Pumpkins continue to roll out new songs from their upcoming double album, Cyr. Their latest offerings are “Ramona” and “Wyttch.”
The accompanying video for “Ramona” stars founding members Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin, alongside guitarist Jeff Schroeder. The Linda Strawberry-directed clip recalls Sergio Leone spaghetti Westerns of yore — with a gothic twist.
The release of “Ramona” and “Wyttch” follow the band’s steady stream of sharing Cyr singles before its release, including “Anno Satana” and “Birch Grove,” “Confessions of a Dopamine Addict” and “Wrath,” as well...

The second episode of In Ashes, which is called “Inspirations, Aspirations,” will also serve as the video for “Confessions of a Dopamine Addict.” “Love is easy, whichever way you start/Take the diamonds, slice it through your hearts,...

Stars from all ends of the entertainment world are honoring late Fountains of Wayne band member Adam Schlesinger.
On Wednesday, the “Stacy’s Mom” singer died at age 52 after being hospitalized earlier in the week and testing positive for the novel coronavirus (Covid-19). The Emmy winner was known for his musical contributions to film, television, and theater.
His collaborator on the series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, actress Rachel Bloom, honored Schlesinger on social media, calling him “irreplaceable” and sharing personal photos of the two of them together.
“I have so much to say about Adam Schlesinger that I am at a complete loss for words.

The Smashing Pumpkins kicked off their co-headlining North American tour with Noel Gallagher last week, playing a set heavy on classics like “Today,” “1979,” “Cherub Rock” and “Bullet With Butterfly Wings.” However, One surprise came near the end of the night when they played the Machina/The Machines of God deep cut “Blue Skies Bring Tears” for the first time since 2007, and another came earlier in the show when they performed a cover of James Taylor’s “Fire and Rain.” It marked the first time they’d ever done the song,...

The Smashing Pumpkins took the stage at The Late Show to offer a melancholy rendition of their song “Knights of Malta.” Dressed all in black, the musicians, led by frontman Billy Corgan, performed the song with skill but with a complete lack of real verve or energy. The band is joined by a trio of female backup singers, who lend accompaniment as Corgan croons, “I’m gonna fly forever/ We’re gonna ride the rainbow.”

For many of us who grow up in comfortable lives, there comes a point when we should probably stop partying with the uncaring narcissistic abandon of those in their early twenties. The Matthews Brothers' Lost Holiday takes place at precisely this moment, when a group of friends hovering on the edge of thirty have splintered apart based on their life choices. Shot on gorgeous Super-16mm film, and using an unusual woodwind score (courtesy of Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha) that should not work, but somehow does, Lost Holiday brims with energy and shenanigans. It is a fleet, irresponsible joy of a thing, and above all, a middle finger to purpose, good taste, or...

Twenty-five years later, the earth is still reeling from the spectacle of Smashing Pumpkins’ early Nineties triumph, a keening feedback-drenched rainbow that melded dream-pop gauze and arena rock bluster, Joy Division emotions and Cheap Trick aspirations. Generations of zeros-turned-heroes followed after 1993’s Technicolor guitar-army bubblegum Siamese Dream, 1995’s bloated but pointed teenage symphony to angst Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and even 1998’s less-heralded techno-gloomster Adore. You can still hear them in arena spaceboys like Muse and 30 Seconds to Mars, alterna-poppers like Tame Impala, Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Grimes,...

Smashing Pumpkins should have been in high spirits heading into the making of their second LP. But according to Billy Corgan, the lead-up to Siamese Dream was one of the darkest chapters in the band’s history. “We were on tour, selling out everywhere we go,” the singer told Rolling Stone in 1995 of the period following their 1991 debut, Gish. “Everything went cool, fine, dandy. Suddenly, boom: Nirvana. We went from being seen as future stars almost to has-beens, people saying, ‘Well, if you were so good, this would have happened to you.
