An out-of-work and penniless American pilot is offered work in Mozambique and promptly becomes an unwitting pawn in a world of drug smuggling, kidnap and murder.

Rui was raised in Mozambique in a small village at the frontier of a mysterious river. Son of Portuguese colonists, his best friend is Ana, a black girl godchild of his mother. Unfortunately, he will soon have to learn to recognize two distinct realities - the European and the African - which suddenly seem irreconcilable. At fourteen he is confronted with the tragic destruction of his childhood.

Johan Stensrud is working clearing mines in war ridden Mocambique, where he has taken over for a newly dead colleague. He finds out that the cause of death isn't at all natural, but few are interested. Johan starts his own investigations.

A drama about terrorism in Apartheid-era South Africa, revolving around a policeman and a young man who carries out solo attacks against the regime.

Set when the apartheid government was still in control, this powerful South African thriller is based on the true story of a policeman belonging to an elite government squad who was assigned to masquerade as a supporter and infiltrate the African National Congress so he could assassinate their leaders. Fourie is the cop, and his squadron is the most notoriously racist unit of the S.A. police force; they were infamous for donning street clothes, putting on blackface makeup, and driving around in unmarked cars to kill people and cause trouble to encourage fighting amongst rival groups. Although the ANC members are initially suspicious of Fourie, eventually they accept him and send him to be trained in Lusaka, Zambia, and other places. They even send him to Moscow where he learns about Marxist philosophies. By the time Fourie completes all that training, the conflict has ended, Mandela is released, and his squadron has split up and melted into the general populace.

Based on the book by Henning Mankell (Sweden), this story takes place in Mozambique and is about a young boy, Nelio, who loses his entire family during a time of civil war. A wounded Nelio is found by a baker in the capital Mapouto; refusing medical treatment, the boy instead asks for sanctuary so he can tell his terrible tale. This he proceeds to do, starting with how the fighters arrived in his village and slaughtered many, to his captivity, his escape and his teaming with other orphaned street urchins to become their leader in survival.

THE GUIDE is a coming-of-age tale set against the restoration of a war-torn national park in Mozambique. Raised near Gorongosa National Park, young Tonga Torcida dreams of becoming a tour guide. But when he meets famed biologist E.O. Wilson, his new view of the world around him, and his future, places him at a crossroads. Should Tonga become a guide, or take on a bigger role in trying to keep the park alive?

Some fought on opposite sides in the war which ravaged Mozambique. Others were civilians, and for them, the demining work is an alternative to unemployment or a life of crime. Living all together in tents, they stay for long periods far from their families. Every day they risk their lives together. They are indeed a very special group of men.

Mozambique gained independence from Portugal in 1975, following a bloody struggle that lasted more than a decade. In three acts (plus a poetic prologue and epilogue), some of those who lived through it tell their story about the struggle for independence. A former political prisoner returns to the building named Villa Algarve, where he was tortured - though dilapidated now, it is still maintained as a monument to what took place. There were many who did not survive the torture. We also get to hear the other side of the story, as told by the daughter of an agent of the secret police who was murdered before her eyes following the fall of the Portuguese dictatorship. This striking mix of archive footage, shots of present day and the pervasive soundtrack give us the feeling that past and present are inextricably linked. The oral testimonies bear witness to a multifaceted colonial trauma, and the wounds are still fresh.

Maria Bethânia takes her poetic essay to Mozambique for the first time, where she meets local and Angolan authors dealing with topics such as the importance of literature on resistance to colonization.

On 16 June 1960 in Mueda, Mozambique, the Portuguese army executed six hundred inhabitants on the orders of the Portuguese governor. Since the country's independence, Mueda's residents relive this event each year in a theatrical re-enactment, playing the roles of the assassins, victims and spectators.
