When a politician is killed, a journalist discovers that a member of parliament had the man assassinated. As his editor digs deeper, the complicity of higher-placed politicians comes to the surface, which leads to riots in one town and an attempt to suppress his story.

Preeti lives a wealthy lifestyle in Bombay along with her widower dad, Heerachand, and is a medical student. While on a trip to Simla, she meets and falls in love with a Casanova, Prem, and both get intimate. When her dad opposes this alliance, Prem challenges Heerachand regarding his daughter's love for him. He then leaves Preeti a note, explaining that her father refused the alliance and he was headed to meet his mother, who was urgently sick. Heerachand gets a hold of the letter before Preeti and changes the letter, writing that Prem went away as her father refused to provide any monetary compensation. Years later, both Prem and Preeti are fated to meet again. This time Prem is accompanied by a handicapped young lad, Rahul, while Preeti is about to get engaged to Dr. Amar. Preeti soon realizes that the reason Prem has re-appeared in her life to be near her nubile to-be sister-in-law, Tikki. The question remains what will she do under the circumstances to try and expose Prem as well as protect her past from Dr. Amar? It turns out that Rahul is Prem and Preeti's son and that Prem has come to Dr.Amar for Rahul's treatment. Preeti's father had told her after the birth of the child that she had given birth to a still-born child. After Rahul's operation Preeti comes to know about the reality and confronts her father who confesses to her that he had lied about her giving birth to a dead child and asks her forgiveness but Preeti retorts saying that she an never forgive him as he had lied to her and thinks herself deceived by her own father. Rahul's operation turns to be successful and Preeti and Prem are reunited with their son along with their families.

Bhola Nath is a young petty criminal/robber/pickpocket whom works with a female acomplice and his former lover, Sharmii. But it attracts unwanted attention from the police, the local mob, and the original writer himself.

Dr. Sunil Gupta lives a wealthy lifestyle with his wife, Aarti. Although they have been married for several years, they do not have any children. Aarti did get pregnant once, but failed to conceive. When Vinod finds out that Aarti is basically alone most of the time, he proposes to her - but Aarti rejects him, a physical tussle ensues, Aarti grabs a revolver, a shot is fired, Vinod falls down the stairs and dies. Vidya assists Aarti in disposing off his body. A few days later, Sunil joins them in Khandala and brings home a male who claims that he has lost his memory - the male is none other than Vinod - and Sunil's diagnosis is that Vinod will gradually regain his memory. A few months later Sharda sees Nima clad in a colorful saree, wearing a bindiya with sindoor in her forehead, and starts suspecting that everything is not it seems to be. She then finds out that Balraj had re-married and also has a son from his second marriage named Babbu. As details come flooding into her she experiences wild paranoia, is unable to trust anyone, as no one is what they claim to be, and she feels alone, lost, helpless, and distrustful. The rest of the family hover around - waiting to see what the new outcome is to be with Sharda and her struggle to fit into a family that has not been her's for 14 years.

She does get to meet him again - this time he claims to be Sunil, who gets employed by Ranjit as the Estate Manager. Both re-kindle their romance - but Seema is betrayed again when she finds out that he has lied to her - as his real identity is Ramesh Kumar, the son of Shankar Singh - and his motive to get married to Seema so that he can inherit the estate and wealthy of the Kumar family.

Unperturbed by this, he asks the assistance of his two sons, Ram (Sanjeev Kumar) and Laxman (Shashi Kapoor), so that the marriages can take place, and at the same time Durgadevi and Makhanlal be taught a lesson. Both the sons readily agree to do this, and Ram goes to Durgadevi household as a servant to woo Shanti; while Laxman poses as a wealthy playboy to woo Roopa. But Makhanlal and his wife, Jwala (Shashikala) want Roopa to marry their jailbird son, Chander (Ranjeet), and will not stop at anything, including abducting Durgadevi herself, to pave their way to wealth.
