I believed the hype before watching MOTHER SUPERIOR, Nica Noelle's venture into what was stupidly christened the "nunsploitation" genre by some no- nothing revisionist critics. (These younger revisionists mainly focus on Italian and Japanese movies.) What emerges instead is a serious, highly erotic lesbian video, far removed from the camp and cliché of the Anne Heywood-influenced movies of many decades back.
Magdalene St. Michaels is perfectly cast in the title role as Mother Magdalene (even the name is perfect). She reveals in the entertaining DVD Behind the Scenes short subject that she had never portrayed a nun before, except at Halloween, but that her fondness for role-playing in real life was rewarded here. The viewer is also rewarded with a sensitive but deeply erotic performance, seducing "opposites attract" young nun Mae Olsen, an unusual (and vertically challenged) porn actress who at age 20 looks about 14 here. Her background is in the fetish (tickle and bondage) arena.
But the real star of the first MS movie (Nica later made a sequel) is Ariella Ferrera in her first job for the director. Looking quite pure, even angelic, in her nun's habit as Sister Paula, she gets down and dirty when her massive breasts are unleashed in two, count 'em, two sex scenes opposite willowy Jasmine Jem and virginal Presley Hart. My disappointment stems from the video having only the most minimal set-up for each scene, almost in a hurry to get to the soft-core seduction and then hardcore fruition of pent-up passions being released.
Fourth segment veers away from Nica's standard older/younger thematic to match up bosomy Ashley Graham with Lea Lexis, an actress so busy she also uses the name Lea Lush. Ashley's large tattoo on her belly is not revealed, but the video does have a few errors, especially noticeable being Mae Olsen's sexy orange fingernail polish (hey, she's a novice nun), and several shaved pussies. Ferrera's full bush for the occasion is the sort of naturalism director Noelle is famous for.
So perhaps the blasphemy and irreverence (beyond the obvious) of MOTHER SUPERIOR is fairly tame, but this director and cast have delivered a solid erotic drama.
