If the director wants the audience to immerse themselves in the story and feel the emotion of the story, then he must know when to show and when to tell. Emotional moments, opinions, and condolences are better shown than spoken. This principle of film is called - "show, don't tell".
CHISO MANCHHE also falls in this category. Chiso Manche is an artistic film made for the smart audience. This is a Nepali cinema that can compete in the crowd of world cinemas. The target audience of this film is those who like artistic films, watch Iranian, Korean, Japanese or any movies in the world with subtitles in that language. Therefore, this film, which has been performed with the original rhythm, deserves both encouragement and praise.
What was the real face of the country during the Covid pandemic? The Schools, trades, business, transport, etc. Were all stopped; the outside environment was as deserted as the fear of the epidemic was playing drums in people's minds. During this time many people died all over the world. Nepali also died everywhere at home and abroad. At the meantime, a corpse comes to Nepal from abroad in a wooden box and this film tells the story of the family who is receiving that wooden box and taking it to their home. Thus, CHISO MANCHHE is a Road Movie. Despite being a Road movie, it covers a lot of things in layers with meanings. Here the story is presented at different levels from the increased physical distance between people to social distancing and discrimination in between peoples. It was difficult even to walk, vehicles were not running, and you have to travel in a vehicle with a corpse on it. There was no humane behavior even in a sensitive matter like death.
In this journey, the unhelpful behaviour of the political party is seen, the irresponsibility of the administration is shown. The struggle of ordinary citizens is seen, the rule of power is shown. A woman in search for freedom is seen, discrimination prevalent in the community is shown. The film depicts the story of a woman who is shrunk by not being able to run after her dreams.
The acting of the actors is also good. Swastima Khadka's hard work on the speaking style and costumes is reflected in the visuals. Her acting is so good that you can't take your eyes off her at any moment. Similarly, after watching this film, it has been confirmed once again that Arpan Thapa should move forward in the field of cinema as an actor rather than as a director. Arpan Thapa plays the role of an innocent character in the film while Swastima Khadka plays the rebellious character. Similarly, Deshbhakta Khanal has played the role of a person with frigid heart in the beginning, but during the journey, a human change can be seen in him.
This film also has excellent music and solo soundtrack with meaningful lyrics. Cinematography of this film is also excellent.
There is a subtle theme hidden in CHISO MANCHHE that you don't need an eye-popping romance to explain the language of love, you don't need your cast to weep forever to remind the fate.
