Holy Night! (2011) is set in Christmas Eve. Christmas is approaching and on one side of the room is the Christmas tree, which is where the figures of Santa Claus and the Elves come to life when the lights go out. There two Toy worlds live together in the living-room of a house. Two traditions confronted. On one side, the Christmas Tree, home of Santa Claus and his elves. On the other, the Nativity Scene with the Three Wise Men and the rest of its inhabitants. When everyone is ready to celebrate a quiet Christmas the alarm goes off: Somebody has stolen the sledge with Santa Claus' presents and Baby Jesus has been kidnapped. And on the other side of the room is the Nativity scene where the figures also come to life every night. The Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph are truly stupefied by the disappearance of the baby Jesus at the portal of Bethlehem. While Santa Claus distributes gifts to the children, Santa's sleigh also disappears. Unfortunately, the two sides can never agree, so when Santa's sleigh and baby Jesus go missing, both sides blame each other. Fortunately, the elf Sam and the Christmas figure Sarah join forces to attempt to solve the mystery and bring peace to the night world. And to make things more intriguing, the Three Wise Men also appear, trying to worship the missing Baby Jesus. But the last one has escaped with a sheep and with Santa Claus's sleigh driven by a reindeer they intend to live multiple mischievous adventures. Christmas is in danger and both worlds blame each other , then two heroes set out to discover the real offender, learn from their differences and save the most magical night of the year.
A fun and entertaining 3D computer generator movie, though with no perfect animation, being really necessary an adequate remastering; containing a lot of incidents, silly messes and christmas fuss. First thing to expose and let me say "Holy Night!" is a decent Christmas tale in which we follow our two heroes, Sam and Sarah, in an exciting adventure to save the most magical night of the year. It's probably more entertaining for a younger audience, under the age of ten, but it's not entirely useless if you're older. Now I have to say that as someone older I have mixed feelings about this 2011 animation that starts above average because I love the idea that we have Nativity figures conflicting with the Christmas tree figures, which gives us a clash between what old and the new. There are some jokes, pranks, ironic moments and craziness throughout, but these failed to capture my attention or attract the viewer enough. Some of them really make you smile, but they don't get to be properly savored by the audience. This all comes down to that 'Holy Night!' it's a bit of a mixed bag since, although the story didn't really catch my attention, I like the basic idea and the actual animation work has a slight charm to it, even if it's clumsy in places, having an almost primitive videogame animation style. It would have needed a bigger budget and a more attractive script to fully convince the viewer. Here several typical Christmas characters join together, including Baby Jesus, Saint Joseph, Virgin María, Santa Claus, who are accompanied by the young Sarah and an Elf who works in Santa Claus's workshop. They all go on numerous adventures with silly incidents, including escapes, sledding, mix-ups and anything else. Of course, the fact that they come to life when the lights go out means it's just a variation on "Toy Story," but it's still entertaining, especially since we get a mix of characters, some more comedic than others.
This fantasy film is acceptable and passable, but failed at boxoffice , in fact in Spain was only released in 1 theater and it was exhibited 2 days, only. Last 'Dygra Films' production, that's only intended for small children, adults will probably get bored. The movie was professionally directed Juan Galiñanes , but contains a somewhat backward 3D computerization that may not please the general public due to the modern techniques used today by John Lassiter or Walt Disney productions. It got various nominations: Cinema Writers Circle Awards, Spain. 2015 Nominado CEC Award Best Animated Film: Juan Galiñanes and Goya Awards 2016 Best Animation Film. Juan Galiñanes is a craftsman who previously was director assistant in animated films, such as: ¨El Espíritu del bosque¨ , ¨El Sueño La noche De San Juan¨. And recently has directed a successful movie: ¨Fatum¨ (2023) with Luis Tosar, Álex García, Elena Anaya. Rating ¨Holy Night!¨(2011) : 5.5/10.
