Recensione in evidenza
This revolves around two men Martin and Bernie having an argument over religion one Easter weekend . Martin is an atheist and Bernie is a Christian believer . It plays out in a predictable manner with Matin having to point out to Bernie that the Christian myths Bernie supposedly believes in are the product of social conditioning , you can't prove a negative , science disproves the existence of a God and that Bernie is in fact an atheist where all other religions are concerned except Christianity . If an adult doesn't believe in the Easter bunny then is there any logic behind believing in a God especially all evidence and axiomatic truth suggests there's no God what so ever
The problem is these arguments have been made before and in a much more entertaining and intelligent manner by Professor Richard Dawkins and more especially by the much missed Christopher Hitchens who'd wipe the floor with religious nutters . In fact probably my all time favourite piece on youtube was Hitchens appearing on Hannity and Colmes show on Fox News as he gave his honest opinion on the recently deceased Jerry Falwell , ten minutes of brutal intellect against ecclesiastical buffoons . Incidentally Hitchens was very much a vocal supporter for the invasion of Iraq and spent the last years of his life defending that view . I think he's wrong on that point along with his anti-Zionist views but the beauty of atheist opinion is its diversity . Strangely when Martin politely tells Bernie if he believes in God he should perhaps live " in a country like Iraq , Iran or Israel " . The problem with that statement is that Iraq has had a floundering democracy since the Ba'athist regime was overthrown and despite having a religious lobby Israel has always been a secular democracy since it's creation in 1948 and if an American atheist is ignorant of this rather important point it makes you wonder how dumb the believers must be ?
