With the 2022 Indonesian movie "Puisi Cinta Yang Membunuh" (aka "Deadly Love Poetry") being a horror movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to watch it when I had the opportunity to do so. I had not actually heard about the movie prior to watching it, so I had no expectations as to what I was in for here.
Writer Garin Nugroho failed to deliver a wholesome or entertaining script for the movie, at least in terms of providing me with entertainment. The narrative was insanely slow, and nothing worthwhile or overly interesting happened in the 45 minutes of the ordeal that I suffered through. Then I simply gave up out of sheer and utter boredom and turned off the movie. Talk about a swing and a miss from writer Garin Nugroho.
With my limited exposure to the Indonesian cinema, then I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in "Puisi Cinta Yang Membunuh". However, I can't say that I was impressed with what I saw, because the actresses and actors virtually had nothing to work with.
Visually then "Puisi Cinta Yang Membunuh" had a little bit to offer. There was a bit of blood in the movie, but it wasn't really sufficient to make up for the lack of proper storyline.
For a horror movie then directors Garin Nugroho and Azhar Kinoi Lubis simply failed to deliver. "Puisi Cinta Yang Membunuh" is not a movie that I would recommend you waste your time, money or effort on. And believe me when I say that I am not going to bother returning to attepmt to finish watching the rest of the movie, as the storyline simply failed to entertain me.
My rating of "Puisi Cinta Yang Membunuh" lands on a very generous three out of ten stars, and that is mostly for the production value alone.
